Lyrics: Eli, the barrow boy Of the old town Sells coal and marigolds And he cries out All down the day Below the tamaracks She is crying Corn cobs and candle wax for the buying All down the day Would I could afford to buy my love a fine robe Made of gold and silk Arabian thread She is dead and gone and lying in a pine grove Still I push my barrow all the day Still I push my barrow all the day Eli, the barrow boy When they found him Dressed all in corduroy He had drowned in The river down the way They laid his body down in a church yard But still when the moon is out With his push cart He calls down the day Would I could afford to buy my love a fine gown Made of gold and silk Arabian thread But, I am dead and gone and lying in a church ground And still I push my barrow all the day Still I push my barrow all the day I must push my barrow all the day I must push my barrow all the day

"Over the Hills" is a good one. And SO MUCH YES on "Cornwall My Home". I'd not heard the song until last summer. It was one of those YT recs that went along with some non-YT research of the genealogical variety. Ancestors from Stoke Climsland. And it is definitely a beautiful song.

Definitely a melancholy song. Surmising here… Since selling coal and marigolds can’t make him much he’s very sad. His girlfriend died and he couldn’t afford a nice robe to bury her in. His grief then was so overwhelming that he drowned himself, and he now “haunts” the area still pushing his wheelbarrow.

That lamp will forever be remembered as one half of Lampdy. Its life will never be the same. Let's just hope the fame doesn't go to its head. (Or Andy's, I guess, in case they share feelings when they are joined.. Ok, now my brain is just being weird)

@jessinthegarden
@jessinthegarden 6 месяцев назад
@@ProfesoraNut I replied but then I guess edited my reply too much and it glitched and vanished? 😂 I’ll try again. Had to look it up, but yes, in the “streamship troopers” live stream (9 months ago) starting around the one hour fifteen mark, Andy puts the lampshade on his head, then ends up singing with it on. I believe the lamp had been moved off its usual table for some reason, and it kept falling over, and Andy got fed up with it and got his revenge by wearing it. (He frequently puts things on his head/face, it’s one of the livestream bingo squares) One of the folks on the discord even made a drawing of it, and someone made a “Lampdy” emoji for the discord. Splendid TLJ lore😂
