​@@vova47 I love Bill and have all his music, but Eliane, to my ears, is marvlous. She swings more than Bill and the rhythms in her piano are so stylish and emotional. I agree that Bill is the Mozart of the piano, but Eliane is definitely not a moon away. You love Bill as I do, but don't lose your perspective with such comments. Have a great day!

I discovered her years back and would agree that she is a singular force of jazz. She has a unique style and the evidence is in the playing and the quality of her sidemen.

Her playing her (especially her treatment of the melody) morphs Keith, not Bill.

To express enjoyment does not say ANYTHING about the quality of anybody doing anything. Do you think, oh, this pilot is enjoying himself….or, is my dentist enjoying the way he is operating me…? Well…to give importance to the „enjoyment“ when we talk about musicians shows only lack of respect for what they are doing… Mahler was not „enjoying himself“ when composing…he was suffering most of the times asking himself if what he was writing was something of any value…..same with Thomas Mann and his novels….

Hmm, not sure about that. Eliane gets badly out of sync for ages and the pain shows in the drummers face as he tries to assimilate the whole sound. That said, somehow it's still one of the best pieces of jazz I know of.

I suppose it's worth suggesting you go with the simpler 'jazzer'. I am sure her laying stands up against the entire realm. Just sayin'

exjazzbass baz - Maybe in the head part? The solos are a lot more bluesy and masculine than Bill ever played, but the pensive and harmony-driven head isn't as much. But yeah, even then, the quiet parts only sound a little like Bill to me.

Matthew Bond Curious what "masculine" means? Bill Evans swung hard- really hard. Much of his music is driving and up-tempo, but he is often inaccurately portrayed only as a "mellow" pianist. His later stuff with Eddie Gomez and Marc Johnson are examples, but even many of his early recordings swing with "masculinity"- I'd recommend listening to him some more. You may be surprised..... Peace.

I was speaking about the lyricism and swing in her playing. I hear some Evans in that regard. I never said she was a carbon copy. As for the moronic comment that "There are lots like her".... I beg to differ. That's such a cavalier , dismissive and arrogant statement ! Shame on you. Elaine's husband is Marc Johnson . Bill Evan's last bass player before he passed . Evan's compared Johnson's playing to Scott Lafaro.

exjazzbass baz wish the tone on the bass channel was better, suffers a lack of punch or shape to the notes...so pickup-y... so rhythmically, that doesn't help as to the percussive qualities of the bass.

Yes Marc Johnson is a great player. I have appreciated much of his work. But reputation aside the proof is in the pudding. This song at this gig , plain to hear , he is dragging. Jack De Johnette knew , just look at his face.
