The (high school) Maine All-States Choir singing Elijah Rock, during our performance last year. Conducted by Dr. Jonathan Talberg.
There are many different versions of this composition, but I found a small part of the one that we sang. I couldn't find the lyrics to the other compositions without paying for them online. .

In this song, they really do have the best part. It's super fun to perform this as an alto! Most of the time I find we get stuck with the repetitive, boring (though admittedly important background) parts. For example, Shut De Do. That bored me to tears

I was suppose to sing this for choir in spring, you can guess why it never happened. I loved this piece, being a bass, and it was such a bummer that I'll never get to sing this again.

This song is very difficult to practice. Sp1 and 2 tenor 1 and 2 . But it's very good to sing. It's very powerful.

Mine has 120 kids XD It's lovely, but also very cramped. You gotta learn to love your neighbor lol. Keep rocking your tenor part :)-Being a Soprano one, I so envy altos who can hit those nice low notes. -Your choir may be small, but you don't have to be big to make beautiful music. Keep singing :)

The feeling we’d get as a choir together was so energizing when we would nail this one. And we would constantly just sing this one for fun in the choir room when we had time to kill listening to this 15 years later makes me tear up. Love this song and it’s such a beautiful spiritual piece. 😊

The basses omg. My honor choir singing "Didn't my Lord Deliver Daniel" could never. I just wish the low E section was stretched a little longer than it was just because it's a rare moment for basses to shine.

My junior high concert choir class is singing this and Battle of Jericho which is also by Moses Hogan. We are doing it for our last choir concert this year. After 27 years, this is our amazing teacher's last year here so we are going big. Rocky Mountain Jr. High will miss you Mr. Saunders 😢

@neverunderestimateit this song is actually REALLY hard. I'm singing it in my high school choir, and this choir is AWESOME. The altos are spot on, and the vowels are supposed to be off for the different parts.

Isaiah Doble I sang the same composition (by Moses Hogan) and we had a higher part in the chorus throughout the song that I was missing in this one.

Good job. Nice blend, but the Altos needed to pull back a bit at times, and Sopranos needed to be a tad louder. Also Altos were a smidgen too wide, but that's not completely unwarranted under these circumstances. Lovely bass section :)

The whole molto rit. thing is up to what the director wanted. This video was posted so that people could enjoy it, not shit on it for its few flaws(which all choirs have). I also don't see the point in trying to critique the group seem as though we will never sing together again. I personally thought we were a kick ass choir.

it always sucks to just drop out and lipsynch, it just makes the kid or yourself feel so inadequate :/ like i said, some kids just didn't or couldn't put the time in, you singing has talent, of course, but great singing is technical and you can teach someone to be a great singer. You're an Alto 2? so that means you had to do that whole low part in the beginning, how did that go for you?

My Vocal Ensemble is singing this of our March concert and we have about 18 singers. It's a difficult song for a small choir. And I thought this choir executed it excellently! The dynamics in this song were sang beautifully and the Sopranos weren't over powering. It sounded beautiful!.

I mean the notes are all right, but this sounds like a bunch of 13 year old's singing it...This song is meant to have a dark kind of sound. I know you guys posted for people to enjoy, but it's still going to get feedback, as is every video.

The diction is pretty... you know...bad, and the altos weren't good at all. Also, the 'hallelujah Jesus' seemed off. Other than that, it was okay. I liked the bass section.

OH MY GOOD LORD DELUXE! Dees chern’ blew this piece clean off the cosmic map! And no director; so far as I could see! This is the most amazing performance ever. They had verve, suave, dynamic, cool, diction, just everything for a superlative rendition. The famous Morgan university choir arrangement pales in comparison. So glad I happened upon such distinguished young people. Bravissimo! Pwg

I'm more a natural baritone, opera voice. But I can sing showtunes, tenor 1, and go all the way to Bass 2, just not the crazy bass 2 parts. I have a wide range, i guess you're right, i even imitate the voices when i sing a cover for fun. Do you have a husky voice? Don't be ashamed of your deepness, it's actually pretty cool and rare. Beautiful ! I discovered this song during my trip in NYC 2012, wandering around the campus, I entered a church and among other songs, one choir sang Elijah Rock... Same arrangement, same tempo... It took time to find it again cause I'm not used to that repertoire, finally I find your version : YOU DID ROCK ! Cheers from France. :)

Good point. Lack of proper prep can definitely make for some small flaws in the piece. But, I do have to agree that this incredibly large group would sound worlds better had they had a bit more time to really polish the piece, and get the diction, accentuation, dynamic movement, and blend down. The sopranos dominated the blend to a nerve-racking degree. And one thing that just really bothered me was the rushed tempo at 2:12 If memory serves, there is a molto rit. there, USE IT

That is the same version that my school is doing! So, critique corner. The sections sounded together from what i could tell, but, though they are good, the alto section almost completely drowned out the sopranos in some parts. The tenor and bass were astounding, though. The vowels, as previously stated, weren't all that amazing in the girls. It sounded like you were trying to sound too Southern. remember, it is still choral so pure vowels are key. I'm from the south and WE don't sound like that.

LIES! TOTO is PERFECT!! haha, that's pretty cool, so you bounce around to tenor and bass, but you can't go higher than alto 1. As impressive as that is...I'm starting to question your gender :P j/k that's actually pretty cool for a chick like you to have a deep voice.
