Advertising suggests the oral anti-coagulant Eliquis offers significant advantages over warfarin in preventing stroke and bleeding. Actually the differences between the two drugs appear rather modest except in cost. The cash price of Eliquis is about $15 a day which translates to more than $5000 a year compared to a paltry $48 a year for warfarin. Additionally bleeding associated with warfarin can be rapidly reversed with vitamin K; bleeding from Eliquis has no antidote.

Thank you so much for this information . This information needs to be shared with anyone who is being advised to go on eloquis . Just the lack of an antidote seems like an argument against it even when it goes generic . The advantage in reduced deaths is very small .

I do not have factor five In the 70s I was 14 after car accidents blood clots to both lungs but at that time they didn’t know what was going on At age 27 I had more clot to the lungs. All there was for treatment was warfarin. It’s on record that it did cause me to have clots I made the decision for over 10 years not to be on blood thinners. In 2010 I clouded up from the IVC Vein down to both legs and feet - I now have stents over half my body At this point, I had to go back on warfarin, which causes blood clots inside the stents I was fortunate that they got the clots out. I didn’t want to live at this point, and I was put on put Pradaxa which saved my life. Insurance company made me switch to Eliquis. Mentally it’s been really tough because Pradaxa has kept me from having any blood clots. Now I’m on Eliquis and scared to death.

I had a fib they gave me eliquis took it for a year or so but I hated the co pay and after talking to doctors and pharmacist I switched to warfarin had a few problems and asked my doctors if should go back to eliquis they all said NO warfarin was best for me , the question is why did they give me eliquis in the first place ??? But I know why they said warfarin in best that’s because they know about it warfarin has a long predictable history it took a while to get dosage right and getting blood tests every month is no problem neither is diet that’s my story

I am having bad reaction tingling all over left side of body and was about to switch back to xarelto when cardiologist suggested Eliquis. Hence research. If It has the side effects I’m reading may as well stick to xarelto

phlotographer: I saw a recent video by Dr Ford Brewer, who said that Warfarin causes calcification in the arteries where you don’t want it to be. He recommended taking D3 with K2 in order to sweep calcium into bone, muscle and teeth where it does belong.

I can only take 2.5 mg. a day or I still start to piss blood but my stroke symptoms have stopped. I had the Carotid artery repaired but the partial blockage is in between my right eye and the artery. I was loosing partial vision but when it starts, I shake my head and it clears up. You might say that they botched the surgery. When I was in the MRI they should've checked to the eye part of the brain but they didn't.

Thank god I'm in Canada. I'm on Eliquis and it's less than $100 per month up here. Yes Warfarin is cheaper, but you have to get your blood levels checked monthly. What a pain in the ass. Maybe once or twice a month. NBD

I’m a Nurse working in Stroke Unit , Doctors don’t prescribe Warfarin anymore ( because of that weekly /monthly blood test). What they tend to do now is to give high dose of Apixaban around 10mg for several days (early stages of stroke) then taper it down to 5mg once the patient is in stable condition. And they also give 5mg for patients with Atrial Fibrillation to prevent stroke.
