My mom died during a psychotic episode similar to this. She was afraid of being followed and went somewhere to be alone, but without food. We struggled to understand what happened for the same reasons - it’s so antithetical to what someone in their right mind would do. And yet the mind is a powerful thing. We see killers or the supernatural in these cases because we can’t understand what it’s like to be them. So we can’t imagine how they’d end up this way. If someone you know talks about hearing voices or is paranoid, take it seriously and get them some help. You can save someone’s life. I wish I had
I am very sorry about your mom. I practically disagree with this theory alot, she was talking to someone or she was trying to do something. She looks like she is describing something. If she went into that water tank, how would she close it? There would have been bruises on how her fingers. Now, hiding a body in a water tank is a way to get rid of fingerprints. I think she was about to be sex****** assaulted. Assuming her state when found she wasn't though. Plus, if she had an epsiode you need to be specific. Did her family ever say she had such epsiodes for the 22 years of living? She was killed and we refuse to except this, it was a horrible death. If she went up the fire escape she was running obviously. It was most likely a former hotel staff from when she was staying. The police might already know but haven't revealed the info. If this had happened it was maybe two men. Relating to your theory if she had done so, the person who Left her body closed the tank and just left her there, or the tank top just fell magically. I am so sorry for your mom. No one deserves the pain of their mom dying please take care of yourself :)
I'm sorry about your mom....this is a heart breaking story....I've seen to many Cecil hotel videos but i can't get over them to know the misery of elisa lams death
The fact that her parents DIDNT want to let her go out by herself is scary. The moment they let her go on a vacation alone, she tragically dies. She promised that she would call the every night letting them know she was alive and well, I can't imagine how they felt to not receive a phone call that night.
@@Ritsukaberry because she was 21 so her parents trusted her as she was an adult but she promised to call them every night so her parents could check on her
@@EkaterinaIHeris A few months before this trip, she had taken another trip almost clear across the country. She lived in BC and took a trip, I believe alone, to Ontario. It stood out to me when I was reading her blogs, because she visited the city I live in. Apparently nothing remarkable happened, because she didn't post much about it. She mentioned she had stayed in hostels, which is why I don't believe her parents went with her.
Some elevators have a hold button that staff use when they're loading luggage into/out of an elevator and it'll take a while. This is usually a feature on freight and staff-only area elevators, but some smaller hotels (or at least, ones that see less guest traffic) have the feature on their public elevators rather than putting in separate elevators just for the purpose. She probably pressed the hold button. These can delay the elevator for set time intervals (usually 1-5 minutes) or as an on/off feature (but those are pretty rare these days for safety reasons, and might not even be legal in the US anymore). She probably hit a delay button as she was going down the list.
Yes. Very odd. No elevator I’ve ever been on has stayed open more than 5 or 10 seconds. This one stays open for more than a minute without someone in the doorway.
I don’t think there was anyone outside the elevator. When she initially walks into the elevator she doesn’t look in distress. I think she hides in the corner to see if there is someone holding the button. When she jumps out it sort of seems like a “got you” moment. When she realises there’s no one there I think the erratic hand movements is her trying to see if there was anything physically stopping the door from closing. She then looks frustrated , grabbing her hair and playing with her hands. The second time she gets into the elevator she presses heaps of buttons. She seems just as confused as to why the door isn’t closing as we are.
she already enters a behavior of despair this her theory does not make any sense, she was not wearing those shoes are very different, I believe there is someone else in the elevator
@@suellenandrade2815 if she enters in despair she wouldn’t have stood in the corner so still. I’m sure if you were scared you would be pacing back and forth. She didn’t start pacing till she realised the door wasn’t closing. And the shoe definitely looks like hers it doesn’t appear until she starts to exit the frame and it lifts the moment she’s walking away
Poor young girl, I really feel sorry for her. I hope that after death there's something more beautiful, better and safer for all of us than life on earth. Rest in peace Elisa
It couldn't have been a ghost, she had to have been murdered by a staff working at the hotel. You'd think that they would release camera footage from the roof, but they refused to release it. I'd also like to point out that you would need a special kind of keycard to gain access to the roof. So it was obviously a staff member. I think she was raped and then murdered by a staff and then was placed in a water tank to hide evidence. Overall, I think that the hotel staff are trying to hide this from us.
@@colorado_river5003 thats so fucking scary omg. What do you think about her interacting with someone/thing in the elevator? That cant really be explained unless the whole video is somehow edited
@@Dana-qt8xi I think she just had anxiety and kept looking down the halls to look for any people that could murder her. That's why I think she kept looking out of the elevator and stuff.
Same, i first saw it in 2014 and refused to go in an elevator until I moved into a condo in 2019. But then, i was still terrified and this is the first time im watching the video again even after all the documentaries ive watched.
No. We know what happened. I don’t take medication for bipolar disorder and I’m not at risk of stopping taking my medication and having a full blown schizo episode. People like her who have the disorder and don’t take medicine are
Rest in peace. This tape is so unsettling to say the least. This is the last known footage of Elisa and that honestly scares me so much. Stay safe everyone please.
Not an expert on elevators, but I assume that it stayed open simply because it operates by detecting motion. They are built that way in an effort to keep them from shutting while someone is still in the process of stepping in or out. Elisa repeatedly darted in and out of the thing the entire time she was there. As far as the elevator is concerned, it wasn't going to shut until she was out of the way, which is, probably, why we saw it abruptly do so as soon as she disappeared from view.
I feel she was murdered and that it was one of the staff she was found dead on the roof you need a special key card to get into and I think the elevator was shut down
Michelle Cena Nah me either, you’re fine lol. I’m just confused bc when she first got on it, she was fine though, but the doors didn’t budge at all for a few long moments. The elevators at my job are crusty and dinky but the doors close a good five or so seconds after getting on them. But she waited awhile so I’m wondering wtf gave
There probably isn't audio. I don't believe in ghosts. I do work in, and on top of elevators. Someone could have been on top of the elevator. The door operation can be controlled from the top, and you would be looking around wildly if someone was talking to you from the top as well.
Yeah, she pressed multiple buttons starting from the top to bottom. As the door was about to close she pressed the "hold door" button which i assume made the door stay open
Y qué tal si estaba esperando a alguien? Por eso apretó el botón? Por eso se escondía como tratar de asustarl@ y después al no querer ir le hizo señas? Probablemente la persona era sordomuda y al final esa persona no quiso y Elisa solo fué tras esa persona.
This video was spliced a few places at least. The elevator closing for the first time. Also interestingly what indicates a minute passing takes ~80 seconds from 0:00 to 1:20 and then 1:20 to 2:41. Okay, strange but consistent. However it changes again after 7 seconds 2:41 to 2:48. There is a light shift at 2:29 the frame after Elisa's foot exits view completely. There is also a light shift in 2:34. Again at 2:50. Now the elevator close. Keep you on the bottom panel. The first frame of 2:58 has a blur that you will be able to see in the bottom panel, the floor tiles, and the reflection of the top and bottom sections of the elevator wall. The second frame the door magically partially closed. The third and subsequent frames we aren't blurred anymore. Now, The open and closes. I believe that the last open and everything we before the door close are the same place. The first open after the door close at 2:58 is different than what we saw previously. Look at the wood, the length is different. Anyway, my wrist is in a lot of pain, i'm stopping.
Ok im confused. I seen a video talking about demons on a channel that's no longer on you tube and it showed this video and what said parts of the video that haven't been seen. This was years ago and in the longer video she comes back into the elevator and is held against the left wall if i remember correctly and appears to be strangled by something invisible to the camera. Now i seen the video and it looked like it was part of the original video no altercations and this was before AI was really being used. Now i cant find that video ANYWHERE??? Does anyone else remember seeing another version of things or watching the video on that other channel??? The channel was lioness of yeshua i think?
What pisses me off is the hotel just had easy access to the water tanks with no key or locks. What the hell? What if someone poisoned the water? Dropped something important in?
No ones talking about why the elevator door closes that way? It looks like someone edited the video so there is obviously something they don’t want us knowing about.
In my opinion most probably Elisa suffered a psychotic break - this can happen even if she was taking her medication. She was afraid someone was after her, the small inconvenience that the elevator wasn’t working triggered her fear. Perhaps she tried to escape from the windows and reached the tab. My hypothesis is that the staff had accidentally left it open and then either closed the tab without paying attention that someone was inside or they were afraid of getting in trouble for leaving the tab open and decided to close it.
What really creeps me out is that we can only see her but she was seeing something else. Something that was on the scene and on the spot, even if we can’t see
If you look closely to the reflectance on elevator door side to right that is reflecting the hallway to the left, then watch when she is inside, there is clear movement in left hallway and she keeps looking to the left and starts talking and indicating that the elevator does not close to them. There is definatelly someone in the hallway to the left with her.
@@Dikshant62 WAIT! I just found out that a guy went to the hotel to check the elevator and it turns out that under that row of buttons she pushed theres axtually a button to hold the elevator open and still for about 2 minutes. One thing I've always wondered about this video.. why I think someone set her up. Is how long the door stayed open. Like she was in the elevator for SO long and the door never once closed until she walked away... Like someone was holding it opening until she gave up using it.
Whoever was outside the elevator knew it had a camera. And didnt want to be spotted. So they stood there pressing the open button until she walked out of camera frame . They took her by the hair at 2:32

It was the most impressive documentary I've ever watched. It has helped me gain new perspectives on many issues that touch different areas of life. I'm so sorry we lost such a sincere person.
Wasn't that good. Most of the people made baseless accusations and assumptions. Morbid just did crazy stuff for fans. The girl more than likely kill herself
It changed how I see the mystery of Elisa lam and how I first knew the story from another RU-vidr but this documentary changed my POV towards this case , Elisa lam you will forever be missed 🙌 RIP I hope heaven is treating you right ❤️
Quomodo cecidisti de caelo, Lucifer , fili aurorae?! Deiectus es in terram, qui deiciebas gentes!, qui dicebas in corde tuo: ‘In caelum conscendam, super astra Dei exaltabo solium meum, sedebo in monte conventus in lateribus aquilonis; ascendam super altitudinem nubium, similis ero Altissimo ...........................
As it says in the documentary, she had bipolar disorder and wasn't taking her pills. Her family mentioned she sometimes had hallucinations which leads to panic attacks, so there might've been nobody with her and she could've been having hallucinations that there was somebody coming to kill her which is why she was acting strange. She went to the rooftop, and saw the water tank as her hiding spot to protect herself. She got in, and took off her clothes to try and swim up because she probably thought the weight of her clothes were pushing her down. But I will respect everyone's theories, so don't feel pressured to follow the same theory as me.
i vibe with this theory a lot ! but there were some people she knew saying that her medication was going ok? and how did she get to the rooftop herself when there were the doors that always started alarming when they were opened? scary.
@@kerttukaroliina9343 She most likley went through out a window to get to the rooftop, and might've been lying to her non-relatives about the whole medication thing. But yes, the whole case is creepy and there isn't enough evidence to say if she was murdered or not. It's kind of weird.
Probably some employee took advantage of her inconvenience and took her to the terrace to abuse her upstairs, since there were no cameras there. She obviously tried to resist, but it was murderous. So, to stand as a witness, the clerk threw the body into the water tank (to get rid of fingerprints), his only mistake was closing the lid. In order for the hotel's image not to get ugly these days after everything that happened, the owner made an agreement with the police to stifle the case as much as possible, which is consistent with the edited videos and insufficient information, making it appear to be a suicide for bipolar disorder.
the video was cut after she walks out of frame. 1. The seconds in certain moments are stopped and then resume. 2. When the door finally closes it is already almost halfway, then when the lift goes to the other floors, the door closes starting from the beginning and not from the middle
Don. Why would the LAPD blur out the timestamp on the video they released? So that tells us people are putting in the effort to mislead and thus we will never get the complete thruth about this.
It’s just so heartbreaking how terrified she must have been, believing someone was coming after her until the last second of her life. I hope she’s happy and well in Heaven.

Maybe it was the elevator game you guys should check the videos of tfil they recently went there n also opened a dybbuk box at the terrace don't know why though 🙄but still.
there was a cut in the middle of the video so they might have cut some parts out for some reason 2:58 even before that time stamp the number begin to glitch which is weird
explination of the doors not closing: many times in the video you can see her spam pressing almost all of the elevator doors. a button elevators usually have is a button to keep the doors open for 30 seconds or even 2 minutes. you might have seen these buttons yourself. they typically show elevator doors and arrows point forward (door close button) or arrows pointing away from eachother (doors open button). because the doors stay open for quite a while, it was most likely closer to a 2 minute timer.
It's not frightened behavior, though. Anxious, maybe, but not frightened. Her body language throughout the video is 100% playful. She's in the corner waiting to surprise someone who never comes in, or even near. I think someone promised her an illicit nighttime swim in the water tank, and for whatever reason, she trusted them enough not to realize they were avoiding cameras on the way to the roof -- this one in particular. This is a four-minute argument about taking the stairs.
@@Avelcaine make sense tho. I am guessing that she is not trying to make the elevator close but to make it open (?) So the guys who are not detected would go in (?).
@@Avelcaine If she was playful, why did she try to go down when she walked inside the elevator? Elisa had a history of not taking her meds, and in the autopsy report there was hardly any in her system. I believed for the longest time that she was murdered but it’s most respectful to think logically. She was having a bipolar manic episode. She believed somebody was chasing her. During maniac episodes people experience being delusional and hallucinations. In the documentary it alway states that her family says she’s had breakdowns before, some that often led to her being hospitalized. When you watch closely as she enters the elevator pressing many buttons, the elevator doors wanted to close . But something stopped it from closing 😨 this video gives me bad vibes !!
At first... it looks like she’s confused at why the doors won’t close so that kinda explains the weird jumping in & out.. maybe trying to see if they would close? And then she presses all the buttons, again maybe trying to get the doors to close? But then her looking like she’s talking to someone- it doesn’t make sense. I want to convince myself that she’s conversing with someone down the hall & explaining the issue with the elevator doors but something just seems weird/odd. Off. And then the doors close. I don’t get it. Strange 😳

I’ve said from day one, “This video has an aire of creepiness to it”, but I’ve also put myself in that situation & wondered what I would have done. As a New Yorker & a former tour guide, I’ve been in many elevators. All elevators are NOT THE SAME; different people, different activities, different walks of life, different cultures, we all do different things & live our lives the best we know how. Knowing we all live our different lives in unique ways, the video’s creepiness wears off. In this scenario, in my opinion, Elisa was a young college student, traveling, who had a lack of understanding of the elevator, was trying to get the elevator to work, but the scanner of this elevator had been used for many years, so it didn’t work as well as it did years ago. Finally when she decides to get off the elevator & walk away the door shuts & starts moving again, probably cause no one was in the path of the elevator scanner, like how any elevator scanner works. I can’t completely understand why she would press all the buttons, maybe she wanted to travel to every floor, maybe she was bored & going up & down in an elevator was a fun idea, but in the end, she encountered this crappy elevator & this creepy footage was created. 1:30 Notice how when she walks back into the elevator, she has big smile on her face, I think she had gotten frustrated & the only thing she could do was just smile it off. I think we’ve all been in situations like that. 2:27 - 2:28 Elisa turns left, LIFTING HER RIGHT FOOT TO AVOID HITTING SOMETHING, MAYBE A DOG. She wasn’t alone in that hallway, Elisa felt comfortable enough to talk to someone about the elevator, someone else was there. The Cecil employees or the investigators are not giving us the full story, something “human influenced” happened there. Someone is lying.
@@noorfonteyn6291Because the employee controlling the elevator was preventing it from moving, either remotely or by holding the button down outta view…
2:53 there are about 3 cuts before the door closes which could possibly mean that the tape was tampered with or maybe its just cause its really old. The door opening and closing could be because of how old the elevator is, all the buttons she pressed, or maybe there was a struggle or something outside that caused the up/down elevator buttons to be pressed and therefore opening the elevator
This is the exact behavior we saw at the emergency room when homeless people or the people down the street at the halfway house came off their meds or suffered a break with reality. They made all sorts of weird hand movements, spoke with people who were not there, and moved in obsessive-compulsive patterns and generally repeated tics over and over. What you're seeing here is not a person being pursued by a killer or a ghost or a person from another dimension. If there were another person threatening her, she would have run away. Instead, like a person suffering a psychotic break, she is alternating between paranoia and calm, wandering like she does not know where she is, repeating patterns, and fidgeting with her environment. It IS scary to watch. Psychotic breaks are VERY scary to watch. I know. But they are not supernatural, and they require no conspiracy or help from others to occur.
You can Google more info about this, and you'll find that employees at the hotel have revealed that the hatch to the tank is not heavy at all. There was a fire escape that provided easy access. It is very easy to imagine that in her altered state, she took her clothes off and climbed in. It would not be uncommon for somebody in this state to imagine they were overheated, covered in ants, just plain itchy for no apparent reason, or simply to be so dissociated they didn't know what they were doing, and climb right in. Her clothes were set aside, like she took them off and intended to put them back on. They weren't stolen or hidden. Why? Because there was nobody else there to steal or hide them.
Finally someone made this one. In the end this should be very clear, she was sick and took 4 different meds and her friend didn't want to sleep in the same room with her because of "odd behavior". But the tank part still makes me wonder, I mean for a person in this state to climb the ladder to the roof, and then to a 10ft tall tank and then jump in there without clothes on and then closing the hatch is way too fishy.

The scariest thing about this whole case is the people drank the water from the tank she was in. It's still sad though. I'm pretty sure this hotel is closed though.A lot of suicide and murder there.
I think the official story is the truth here. She was having a psychotic attack. She thinks somebody is to out to get her, gets in the lift presses buttons the doors don't close. She thinks someone is out there that is pushing buttons causing the lift not to move. She hides and tries to see, then jumps out of the lift to catch him in surprise. Then she does weird movements because her distress goes up. Then runs to the roof and gets in the water tank to hide or falls in it, but can't get out. Removes her clothes due to hypothermia, and eventually drowns. It is a very sad death. Editing this comment for the many people asking about how she closed the lid: There are different reports if the tank was actually open or not, and a civilian later sneaked into the roof and recorded that half of the tanks were open so I am assuming it was open, or maybe was closed later by one of the staff. If someone closed it don't know how they wouldn't see the body though.
@@nivedj I don't know, maybe it took time for the system to recover after she pressed all the buttons, sometimes happens with electronic stuff. Or maybe it was malfunctioning.

Nothing will rest in peace as long as she was killed by something paranormal. Most of the people don't believe in that stuff. Here in Italy we had a pretty similar case with a 21 year old lady who was possessed by an evil entity that even in her funeral black shadows were present looking at her corpse.
I'm reading a book right now called Gone At Midnight: The Mysterious Death of Elisa Lam. In the book it says that her autopsy shows there was no water in her lungs. When a person dies from drowning, there's water in their lungs. Just something to think about.
Hi Marcy, I'm reading the same book, and in it Jake covers that. There is such a thing as a "dry drowning" which really I see as asphyxiation, where water will cut off your airway but no water actually fills your lungs. Jake also mentions there are coroner examinations to determine this in the autopsy, but in this case they were not done.
I only just watched the documentary about the cecil hotel on Netflix and I am so shocked how many deaths there has been in that one hotel and how they found her body and the people staying there was drinking the same water. Very scary, wouldn't be surprised if there would be sprits still staying there.
Here's my theory: She is being followed by at least one person and another person is operating the elevator (this is the only way to explain the doors not working at first and then opening and closing several times at the end with seemingly no cause). She gets in the elevator to get away from her pursuer and pushes all the buttons so that she'll be able to find a floor where she has no adversary. However, the elevator operator keeps the doors from closing so that she can't get away. She either picks up on this or gets another idea: "the guy chasing me will expect me to go to another floor so I'll send the empty elevator to throw him off. However after trying this and changing her mind once or twice, her adversary does show up and she pleads for her life (the part where she seems to be talking to someone). She then runs down the hall to get away and to the roof (where her body was later found) where her attacker met her and drowned her. The elevator operator, meanwhile, kept opening the doors so that he could see what was going on on that floor, but both Elisa and the pursuer had already left.
The biggest question is when LAPD came to know about elisa lam gone missing since weeks they have searched the entire hotel for her and also searched the top of the building for any clues it is weird and strange that the cops left those tanks unsearched without having a look at them later they came to know about the body in one of those tanks. That is unusual and it is clear that the cops of lapd and hotel management were involved in this gruesome murder mystery and which will be remained unsolved and buried underneath for years.
I agree. I don't know about the LAPD, but I think the doors on the lift weren't closing because someone wasn't letting them! Like, whoever was working there. I believe the hotel staff were definitely involved (yes, I did see the interview with the receptionist that was working thay night, doesn't mean she was telling the truth)!
Hm, considering that there is a possibility she was having a manic episode, and that the elevator door wouldn't open, she might have thought that there was an invisible line stopping it from opening? Thats just a theory, and my theories arent always right
this is terrifying, the fact people were drinking the water with fragments of her BODY in it is so scary, i’m sending prayers to her family, she seemed like such a sweet person:(
The fact that no one noticed a black figure entering the elevator when she presses the buttons for the first time when the elevator was about to shut the doors. I think she was experiencing something paranormal. Hope she's resting in peace. 🙏
Did anyone notice she leaned on the elevator door stop (the black strip when touched makes the door stay open) for quite some time that would definitely contribute to the elevator staying open.
