卡尔梅克蒙古，祖先在西伯利亚南部居住。十七世纪初在与准葛尔蒙古战争中失败，西迁至伏尔加河下游。后来在十八世纪不堪沙俄统治，整个部落决定东迁，回到中国。逃跑计划因为被泄露，有一部分（大约三万人）未能东迁，留在了那里，成立了卡尔梅克共和国，现在是俄罗斯联邦的成员国之一。
