In ancient Greek there were 8 types of love, only one referring to sexual love. Whenever modern "historians" translate any of the 8 distinct words for love in English they just use love, mostly to push their own propaganda. There was nothing sexual between the "male lovers" of the Band of Thebes. in fact such an act between citizens(which they were) was illegal, and the receiving party was criminalized, potentially exiled or executed. The "lover" suffix refers to the sacred oaths that a couple undertakes that they need to protect each other in battle, and if one dies in battle, the other needs to die too in the same battle. This is a common battle brother oath that many military societies in the ancient world had, and the specifics of what a battle brother meant then, which was different than simply being a comrade in the same unit. It's basically "historians" taking advantage of the ignorance of modern people to ancient Greek language. In the whole of ancient Greek literature that we have, gay sexual behavior appears only twice, and neither time is consensual or referred to as love.

Great video! Aside from the mispelling of the word tercio as "trecio" in the video, I just wanted to point out that within the tercios also exist the tercios viejos. They are the elite core of the imperial Spanish army as they were composed only of Spanish veterans and acted as extremely deadly shock units which never routed (even in their first defeat at Rocroi). They were undefeated for almost 150 years.

I bet your next series would be about the modern units (e.g. SAS, GIGN, SWAT, GSG9, etc.).

Will there be a fourth part ? Some units are still missing : Napoleonian old guard, templars, Gurkhas, Comanches, French Foreign Legion, Russian Cossacks, etc

very nice vids liked all the parts. as a Mongol was nice to see Kheshigten being mentioned here /Kheshig as u have mentioned. and the word kheshig means favor or bless. and kheshiten means one who is blessed or favored/ and yea as most or almost all royal guards throughout the history of mankind they were elites a true elites all selected from families with high value they are not from regular families they are all sons of lords and barons and their relatives but are thoroughly selected and trained to be best of the best /might be similar to knight orders/ and their secondary roles in combat was to give devastating blow to enemies which you have just mentioned here.
