@Yann Filion Are you joking? Those paces are extremely moderate for someone at his level. A 10k at 40 minutes is easy for even most dedicated amateurs, and Kipchoge can run a 10k in way less than 30 minutes.
19Kamau79
19Kamau79 2 months ago
@Nate Silvers then I have to turn 60% vegan ☺ as omega-3 will not serve any thin blood person, thought I don't have that type of vegetables around just spinach, carrot, tomato, cucumber and onions etc. aside of potato, rice, wheat and maize. Fish related mercury doesn't affect Norwegians as they are mainly in better health compared to full vegan or keto/carnivore type of extreme diets, thought even blueberry (100% vegan, 100% organic) have mercury and other radiation remains after all cold war nuclear tests across the globe. It's pointless to praise anything without praising everything.
Nate Silvers
Nate Silvers 2 months ago
@19Kamau79 Fish is full of mercury and a poor source of omega 3, look up how much fish you actually need to eat it's silly. Romaine lettuce and others are the best source of omega 3 as is fruits. Also vegans need less omega 3.
19Kamau79
19Kamau79 2 months ago
@Nicholas Dimedio nature of elite marathon is using carbs as primary energy source, but 24h world record 319,614km or +198mile holder Aleksandr Sorokin eats also fair amount of fat because carbs alone can't cover that type of distance.

@Timothy Karanu I give it to you,you were correct. I didn't think he would go hard in the 1st half like he did. I thought he would keep it around 61 mins in first half and if he was feeling good,go for it in 2nd half ,but happy to just go for win if record isn't possible. I definitely didn't see him dropping a 59 min 1st half, that was more in line of what I saw him doing in 2nd half(only if he felt strong).

@Esteban Araya Guzman Incredible run and it is amazing that he keeps aiming higher. But it's not "brave" I think - he ran almost exactly the pacing he would want for a world record in the first half (just a tiny bit fast if we are splitting hairs). He knows that even if he blew up in the second half, everyone else will still struggle to keep up. Fully calculated.

His not only the GOAT, he’s the GAOAT, the Greatest Athlete Of All Time. Yes, there are many, many legends in sport, Ali, Tyson, Jordan,… but Kipchoge is imo above everybody. Certainly built different. No denying that. We can all have our own GOATs among these 3 or even any other like the likes of Hicham EG..or anyone else but what is amazing to me is how long these guys have been doing this at such an elite level. These are absolutely GOAT things. If not then what else? Such athletes come once in a lifetime. We're fortunate enough to witness their greatness. Federer, Nadal,Messi,Kipchoge,Bekele,Haile,Bolt, Shelly Ann, Djoker,Cristiano and many more. I can keep on going with this forever 🙏🙏 But for now Kipchoge is certainly a legend of distance running. ❤ Much Love and Respect 🙏🙏

There was a time when I said Kipchoge is the greatest marathoner and Bekele is the greatest runner(his dominance in 3 events:5000,10,000,cross country). But now I'm not ready to just label Kipchoge "greatest marathoner",that seems limiting for a man of his achievements. I say this,I think Kipchoge has def brought a lot of eyes to the marathon, people tune in to watch him,he makes headlines when he wins,he's featured in major publications, crowds come out to watch him, and he's almost treated as a mythical being when encountered by fans. I think he may be the most popular and revered distance runner of all-time

@dacosta smith I wanna see him run nyc for selfish reasons,I live here and want to see him on a course in person. dacosta smith
dacosta smith 2 months ago
@Mathieu Dube I partially agree with you. The part where he dominates the marathon is true but for bekele was arguably better in xc than kipchoge is in the marathon winning 11 straight world titles. Then bekele adds 9 more track gold's to that dominance. All while being the 2nd fastest marathoner in history. Bekele has held the 2nd fastest time both before and after the super shoes were introduced to the sport. There's no way a guy with just 3 gold's could even begin to be a superior overall runner. Another thing missed is bekeles 10k dominance. Hes the best in history in this event as well. You have to go back to pre-african track days to find similar levels of dominance at this event. Kipchoges one track gold he beat a bekele doubling back from a 10k gold and El G doubling back from a 1500 gold. There's simply no comparison in overall resumes. But I completely agree with you. He's the best marathoner for sure. I do wish he would race something other than London or Berlin. Maybe he will try to run some other major marathons now since he's got his new wr at Berlin again

I've only recently learned about Kipchoge, don't know much about distance running, except how hard it is for me to run at all. His mental fortitude and physical attunement is truly something special. Just incredible, thirty seconds off his previous WR, that's without doubt the finest marathon ive ever seen. Coming through half way in under the hour, and holding it together to the finish, thats more than impressive. Obviously his training must have been perfect, but its the way that he achieved it, on the day.. That's a record that will stand for a very long time, as it takes simply ridiculous splits to even come close.
Peter Lewis

@Shandy Torok His Tokyo Olympic title, was pretty magical as well. Brutal conditions, with very high humidity, and temperatures, yet Kipchoge left the rest of the field in his wake to a very easy retention of his Olympic title.

I ran the Santa Cruz wharf to wharf race in 1978 and I tried to keep up for the first mile with a the Frank Shorter 10 K race Champ types at the front and just about exploded my heart. I did have to back way off for the second mile and yet by the third mile I shaved off 30 seconds on my mile #2 pace and then held that pace to the finish line at 5.9 miles. The last half Mile I stretched my stride and was running flat out full speed at the finishline. I finished in the Top Ten Percent that day and for someone who was a cyclist and only trained for the race by running for 6 days prior to the race, I felt I did OK.

Yes, he will break records...by winning it, he will break the record of winning Olympic Marathons...he will be the only one to win it 3 times, there is only two other man to win twice, Abebe Bikila and Waldemar Cierpinski...Eliud also has the record of winning marathons 15 times, 2:05:30 being the "worst" and 2:01:10 being the best time...not to mention his 1:59:40 Vienna and his 2:00:25 Monza runs! I think that he will almost certainly be the Olympic Marathon Champion in Paris 2024. He is a league above everyone else right now. He is still progressing at 37.... unbelievable! The man makes the impossible possible. He may even break his own world record yet again. Breaking 2hrs in normal conditions seems out of reach, but this Eliud so who knows. Looking forward to seeing what he does next.

He certainly is one of the greatest athlete living. His dominancy is unchallenged since his slight underperformance in London 2020. But nevertheless he is undoubted. Truly one of the greats!

He ran the first half in 59:51! He did so well to hang on for a 30 second world record, he is the undisputed GOAT of marathon running!

It is insane to think of running this fast for this long. My heart would explode if I tried to run this fast for 400 meters.. what an inspiration..

Gracias a la vida por dejarme ver a otra leyenda. Me tocó ver jugar a Jordan, me tocó ver jugar a Maradona y ahora viendo a Kipchoge. Sin lugar a dudas tendré mucho que contarles a mis nietos..

Whenever I watch Kipchoge run I end up crying for whatever reason. Well maybe it’s because I’m watching a human being do inhuman things. And he does it so effortlessly.

I was ONE SECOND off on my prediction for Kipchoge - I had 2:01:10 - the stream I watched showed he finished at 2:01:09

Hey Total Running Production, thank you for your beautiful videos! I'm a bit new to the marathon world and I would like to ask you a question, in order to listen your expert point of view: will, in your opinion, Eliud Kipchoge run a marathon in less than 2 hours "legally" (I mean in a way in which the record can be official)? Is it possible, for you?

At this point there just have to be some organizers finding a place with consistant and predictable weather where you might place a track that just barely fits within the ruleset for record-eligable marathons. Because having the race with the first (proper) sub-2-hour marathon would be quite marketable. Sure, Berlin is fast - but there has to be some way for a track to be even faster.

14:25 for 8 conseq 5K's......wow......I remember in 2004 when a woman first broke 14:25 in the 5K, a world record....that was Elven Abeylegesse of Turkey. Running ONE 5K. No disrespect to women runners, but this just shows that Eliud is a machine. And 14:25 for one 5K is better than I ever ran.

One of the interesting statistics you used in another video was the length of time between someone's first and last world title. Kipchoge, across different disciplines, is now approaching 20 years. The only kind of consistency I can think of that matches that isn't in track and field, and that's Sir Steven Redgrave who got gold in 5 consecutive olympics.

There's no question Kipchoge owns the marathon. What's crazy is I honestly believe he will break that record again! He still feels great, he loves running, & he doesn't listen to naysayers who talk about his age. Look at other endurance athletes, like Sorokin, who just broke the 24 hr Record, & he is 40 years old! Kipchoge, who is only 38, could conceivably break his 2:01:10. Maybe @Berlin 2023.

In my current state, I'm doing well to get my 100m in the same pace that he just ran. Tons of respect for this man, and I'm gonna work on building up to getting my 400m in that pace!

This man is insane, for a moment I thought he might break the 2:01 barrier, still it was insane to watch this performance live. In my eyes he's definetly the GOAT of long distance running.

He was sooo brave today.. Running the first Half under the hour is INSANE.. I think he wanted to test himself for a future attempt to go under the 2h. He knows is possible.. Today's performance is brutal.. Nothing but admiration for this man.. Is a legend..

This guy always practice so hard 🥺 I've seen him once practicing at Eldoret Kenya, having different pacemakers. When the 1st group of pacemakers are tired, they exchange with another group of pacemakers. He runs so fast🤯
