Elizabeth Smart says she believes Wanda Barzee being released from prison is still a "danger." The now 30-year-old was abducted in 2002 by Brian David Mitchell and Barzee. They held Smart captive for nine months before they were captured and convicted. Barzee is set to be released from prison today. Only on "CBS This Morning," Smart spoke to Gayle King about Barzee's release.

i just watched the lifetime movie of her story, when she narrates, she talks as if she has spent the entire time defending herself to everyone. You know these crimes that the perpetrators had committed ultimately aren't their fault, right? Violent crimes such as this are always committed because they were either abused themselves in some form or another. There's no such thing as free will. It sure is easier to think that someone's responsible for all of it, but that surely doesn't make us a better people. Before anyone starts jumping on me. I'm not defending rape. I'm simply suggesting that hating anyone isn't fair.
@jennifermarie3158
@jennifermarie3158 4 года назад
@@IAmHoTSHoTzz Yes you are defending rape, and it's disgusting. (If you don't want people to "jump on you" for your messed up comment, maybe consider not posting it.) A large part of the population (including myself) had a bad childhood or faced abuse growing up. Yet most of us don't turn around and rape someone or ruin someone else's life. There will always be some excuse to hurt another human, if you look for it. But anyone who criminally hurts or rapes another is completely at fault and should be punished accordingly. Also, until you've been raped yourself, don't tell rape victims that their "hateful feelings" are unfair.

@Anna Johansson Still, it should not happen ANYWHERE! Nobody said it won't, but it should certainly not. Nobody is living in utopia here, you're justifying the evil by the victims behavior. For example, statistically, the majority of sexual assaults in the world happen in the family circle! Plus, you seem to ignore the fact that people don't chose to work in the corner!
@Fouloul.
@Fouloul. 3 года назад
@Anna Johansson Her case is the proof that even the homes aren't safe. Which means a better education and a proper response (education, justice…) to abductions and sexual assaults has to be put in place. I'm not saying she's as guilty as him, but the immediate response to a criminal couple is: oh the man must have manipulated the woman to do bad things.... Why?! It’s challenging to teach children to be wary of women as much as they are men. Women are their early childhood teachers by a great majority and are supposed to be protectors. We need to always make sure to check for understanding with safety talks.... that females can do bad things too.

I like this girl. Although I do object to the thought that there is no difference of being in your home or "working the corner". I do not feel that prostitutes should be raped and those that do these horrific acts should be castrated or killed. That being said there is some responsibility that one would need to assume for themselves whether they are men or women. I do not walk late at night in some areas (or even during the day). Even as a man. Does it mean I DESERVE to be raped? Of course not, but there is a moderate part that I should do to keep myself safe. Often times as I heard from psychologist people do not rape to experience sexual intimacy but to experience power. They get off in your humiliation.

I want to compliment this woman but it was all so alarming to take in I almost couldn't find words. This woman is sacred to me no matter how hard it is to take in, shes very very valuable her story matters as much as she does

This woman is strong and savvy, she used the terrible experience to inform herself and refused to let it define her; that's powerful and exemplary

I wonder why Gail chimed in, "Why didn't she run?" Is that where her mind went? Why don't people realize that this kidnapper was mentally torturing her and breaking her down? Elizabeth Smart is an amazing strong person to have recovered from those crazed, psychopaths and continued on with a happy life.
