What I appreciate about Lisa and her tutorials is that she captures the essence of the look, without trying to make the model look like the inspiration's copy cat, if that makes sense. This model, although pretty, does not look like Liz Taylor, yet when the whole makeup is done, even before the wig, I can see Liz Taylor emerging: the brows, the shape of the mouth, the winged-yet-wide open eyes. Had the brow been a bit thinner or rounder, or more angular, or the eyes a bit more elongated, too "flicked," it won't resemble Liz anymore. Absolutely brilliant!! Really enjoyed watching this.
+Le Genou de Claire Yes, it's "Liz Taylor inspired" rather than just a straight-up costumey look. She still looks like herself, but if asked which movie star she most resembles you'd say Liz Taylor.
I'm a guy with no interest in wearing or applying makeup to someone else but, as others have said, watching a Lisa Eldridge video is so calming and at the same time I very much enjoy seeing someone at work who is so professional, is such an artist and also an excellent teacher, someone I admire and respect for excellence in her craft. Too it's fun to watch someone's appearance change and be enhanced.---I used to have a small mole on my cheek but was shaving a little too fast one day and sliced it right off.---I was once in a stage play and after being cast was told that my medium blond hair needed to be black. After a performance a lady came up to me and instead of saying "Hey, great job", I was told "You look so much better with black hair, you should keep it that way"! A short time later that lady changed her hair from gray to black!
K...I got a bit effy when she was thickening those brows more and more....and once that wig was on...omg I was blown away. Such blasphemy for me to ever doubt Lisa! Just amazing...not only did she go from blonde to brunette...she went from a modern gal to a whole new era altogether.
+RED REBEL hahahahaha about the blasphemy, I was thinking the same thing, uh oh Lisa this looks rather odd, and then kapow, she shut us all up with her wizardry!
+MADEbySOUL She could pull it off, but would have to adjust for the fact that her natural hair is thinner and straighter than the wig so it would not be an exact translation. She could fix that with extensions/growing her hair out/hair volumizing products and tricks (that are not too damaging), and obviously the makeup to go along with it, but that is a decent amount of required maintenance.
my brows are a lot like Elizabeth Taylor's eyebrows. not quite as dark but the same shape naturally and I remember the first time I saw a photo of her as a little girl and being so excited that when everyone around me had those pencil thin 90s brows this woman who was regarded as a true iconic beauty had brows like mine! beautiful look here, you captured her essence wonderfully!
The eyebrows looked phenomenal! all those youtubers trying to do these bold, thick brows and totally failing but you made it look so effortless. I could swear it was like looking at an artist painting on his camva. Magic. Thank you Lisa
+Lisa Eldridge I'm not saying that you do it, but I wonder why so many makeup artists never blend the light shade in the inner corner of the eye? I've seen sooooo many videos here on YT where they use 5 min to blend everything else but they never blend the inner corner of the eye. Doesn't it look better if EVERYTHING is blended well..?
Wow! Lisa, this tutorial kind of proves that you are the best. Just look at that transformation while still making the makeup look cool. I felt bad when you told your about not doing Elizabeth Taylor's makeup. That haunt me forever. Haha!
I am so glad you are doing this Elizabeth Taylor look! I adore her!!!! She was a magnificent beauty that comes only once in a lifetime. Such a strong survivor. People should really read about her as much as possible. She is a true inspiration and icon. A beautiful woman beyond words inside and outside.
This is an amazing transformation - you absolutely nailed it. I like how you chose her look for the 1950s. I think Elizabeth Taylor looked her best during her A Place In The Sun/Cat On A Hot Tin Roof years. And what a beautiful model!
It is amazing how she looks like she is coming directly from the 50's. If we only look the end we can't imagine there was such a transformation. And it "seems" simple. My wish for X-mas?? Having my party makeup done by you Lisa :-) If only Santa did exist :-( :-(
A another great tutorial, Lisa. I love Elizabeth Taylor, she was a beautiful woman inside and out. It's a shame her beauty on outside is more known than her beauty of kindness and generosity. I hope to see more Old Hollywood looks in the future!
Such an incredible transformation! Maybe even one of my favourites from all the looks you re-created. Now I'd be even more intrigued to see you do a take on Edie Sedgwick's make-up, that'd absolutely make my day
Lisa, she looks amazing. I was always in awe of Liz Taylor's gorgeous complexion, and the incredible contrast of her dark hair, fair skin and stunning eyes. You have captured her look perfectly. Thanks!
Oh wow this is what I'd call a makeup transformation, and it looks so natural! I absolutely love it, and I think she really resembled Elizabeth Taylor at the end. Great job Lisa, you have inspired and taught me so much about makeup and beauty - Thank you! xx
I loved Liz Taylor! She was one of my idols. It's wonderful to see this reincarnation of Liz from the 1950's. I have always thought that she was the most beautiful in the 1960's when she would have been in her 30's. I would love to see a look recreating 1960's Liz! I have to say that you got her brows down perfectly! It's amazing what the right makeup and a wig can do to make this young woman look like a young Liz. Thanks!
You never cease to amaze me. I wouldn't be surprised if one day you're considered an Icon of your trade & spoken about w/reverence & deep appreciation. Thank you for sharing your talent, your craft w/us.
Lovely! The dark hair makes it all pop with lighter eyes! Nice contrast. Yes, she looked much like Elizabeth Taylor, look alike! The Green earrings were perfect! Very nice! Thank you for showing how this is done.
Lisa you are such an artist!!! Thru your words I can really see how much you admire Elizabeth Taylor your enthusiasm and passion talking about her is really enchanting!!! And now I feel the same way about you! You are not queen you are the makeup goddess!!! 👏🏻👍🏻
Ahhhhhhh this is perfection :O As I've already once stated on your video, I fully intend to have you do my makeup for my wedding, even though that would be in 10 years minimum, and it would cost me more than my wedding dress...But who cares, it's Lisa Eldrige,so....
Such a cool idea to use a model that looks like a complete contrast to Elizabeth Taylor and then transform her to look nearly the same. You're already legendary, Lisa!
You never cease to amaze me! I've been watching your makeup tutorials on Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, and Marie Antoinette, etc. on loop because I was so mesmerized by your exceptional talent as a makeup artist. Now you're doing a tutorial on Elizabeth Taylor's look and you TOTALLY nailed it! I hope you can do makeup tutorials of how to achieve the look of other icons such as Madonna, Twiggy, etc.
Oh my that hair! It is facinating to see Angelo working "normal" hair and of course as you can see he knows how to dress it perfectly. Always inspiring! Also the makeup is gorgeus too!
...I am absolutely blown away, this may be my favorite makeup tutorial I have ever seen! Lisa, you gave Liz Taylor every bit of dignity here, beautifully well done!
This was amazing Lisa! I always look forward to your videos because you are informative about the history and you aren't overbearing or too talkative even though you are a complete expert on makeup! Your tutorials are always done so fabulously and the end results are looks that one could actually wear everyday without looking like they're playing dress up. In the future, you should attempt Twiggy, the model. She has such an interesting 60s look but I'm sure you could give us some great tips on how to perfect her bold eyeliner and lash techniques :)
Wow. Lisa, you are amazing. Truly. I am in awe of your talent. You and Kevyn Aucoin are my favorite makeup artists of all time. Period. Liz missed out ;)
please do another marilyn monroe! I loved the one you've done, but this model would've Def looked more like her! with the dark brows, looks like marilyn circa 1962
WOW. I saw the thumbnail for this and could not believe the transformation. I too LOVE the vintage screen sirens of yore. This was so up my alley. And, this would double as beautiful holiday party makeup - minus the strong brow. But to each their own. Thank you, Lisa!
