The problem with the g2 combo models is that they were all pretty much just upgraded versions of existing sets. the 2016 combiners were much more involved than the ones from the previous year, but they still just look like upgraded versions of the original characters. (with the exception of makuta.) they didn't really try to make new characters or creatures to fill out the world like they did with g1's combiners.
Makuta at the end is like a poetic conclusion to Bionicle's end and lore. It's like Makuta himself ended the series, awaiting the day it might return. It's also nice that the original series ended with mata nui and this series with makuta; the good and evil ending. Like they were two sides of the same coin.
There were recently two polls for an official set to be made including an option for bionicle. One lost (IMO because it was super expensive and a system set, so it wasn’t even A bionicle), but we can still win the other. VOTE, BUY IT IF IT WINS, FIGHT FOR G3!
Gathered Friends let us rejoice, for even though Bioncle is gone, The Great spirit and all of its takes live on In Us Remember the three virtues Unity Duty and Destiny.
I must admit, especially the second wave of G2 showed how GOOD Bionicle could've been in their combination models! If Lego could've learned from G2 first wave and G2 second wave Bionicle would've been one of the prettyest and most creative lego toylines period
All the combiners? Time to review the Rahi and Dark Hunters from their guides! :P This has been a fun journey. It's really awesome to see every combiner through this series, since many of them I haven't built in years, or even at all sometimes. Props to you for your work here, and I look forwards to the finale!
That Makuta model is amazing! It’s one of my favorite things from Bionicle. I got lucky and found most of the sets needed to build the combo model before everything got insanely expensive. I like it a lot!
The G2 sets were barely sold in the UK, so I didn’t get to see let alone buy them- I never saw Makuta until today, and WOW I think, next to Kardas, it is one of the best combiners from Bionicle ever- it used so much of what it was given
Umarak could have come with the large black one and toa ekimu could have come with the smaller gold one. Would have been great.... Hopefully LEGO randomly releases it in a set or something
I still have my Makuta combiner put together, even today. I actually went and got copies of the component sets specifically to build it, too, as well as ordering a "Titan sized" Mask of Ultimate Power (in black, of course) for him to wear. It's great.
For Doomurak (that's what some people call that one with all four of the villains), I think LEGO had kept the topheavy issue slightly in mind when they designed the legs. Like, the feet are gigantic, you can actually balance just the completed torso on one leg, without anything else on it (meaning no head, arms, or both feet), and it will stand, thanks to the giant feet pieces used. Edit: Figured I'd just point that out to you, Eljay, if you're reading, for whatever reason.
Thank you so much, you have really reignited my absolute love of this series. I remember some of these with fondness, others I hated (Gaardus). So thank you for all you do. Please review roboriders!
That was a pretty fantastic video series. Quite a shame that Bionicle got canceled after 2016. I imagined it going into greater lengths in the following years after that. Even if there was just one more year, I would have been satisfied. Shopping trips just aren't the same now that there aren't any Bionicle sets to buy anymore. It's also sad that CCBS is not being produced in sets anymore, much less in Bionicle and Hero Factory sets. I guess LEGO thought bringing out Bionicle again in a new generation would work, but it apparently flopped. For me, I think two years is a bit to short of a lifespan of Bionicle Generation 2, but when it comes to sales, what can you do? I haven't been building any MOC's as often as I used to. I made a few of them from time to time, but I haven't been purchasing very many new parts for my MOC making collection.
I never had any experience with the alternate/combo models as a kid. I have really enjoyed watching your series Eljay! I look forward to whatever you do next!
Interesting video. Makuta was definatly a surprise (didn't know that G2 had something good). But you know what you must do next LJay. You're already hearing the wispers of Meso and Dead Matoro. That wich you'll do next shall be... ...THE HERO FACTORY COMBOS!!!
Makuta is awesome. I built him out of parts that I had on hand and several BrickLink parts-purchases. While it was cheaper than buying the individual sets, it still cost quite a bit. International shops were a lifesaver too for the more rare parts. But man, Makuta G2 is SOOO worth it. It is one of my favorite sets and is definitely the best thing that came out of G2.
In the 2003 remixed review you said in the combo between pahrak, nuhvok, pahrak kal and nuhvok kal, that it was the only combo which combines two years of sets. 2016 Makuta busted it!
Yknow what lego should do to revive the technic line so we can get a lot of these pieces to a new generation? Make a mech series, they had an anime themed one back in the day but they could just go nuts with technic pieces and have a lego figure inside, the pose ability would be phenomenal with this type of build set
after 4 years of saving i have ordered all the last wave sets (didn't come out in my country ;^;) and all the component sets for makuta... and also a tiny villager makuta
So recently I just watched through JTO on Netflix for fun and when looking at the makuta model that they used in the show it had the neck armor gone I don’t know why but the small ccbs trans neon reddish orange is just gone in JTO maybe it was just hard for the animators to implement it or what but it isn’t there in JTO
