La La Land, as far as I'm concerned, had a weak script. Isabelle would have won if she had a stronger presence in US cinema. In addition to the movie being extremely European in style, there also wasn't the impression that it was Isabelle's turn to win, as it was her first nomination. I would've voted for Isabelle.

The movie draws obvious commentary on how some games approach sex roles ( The numerous goblin rape cutscenes in the game and Isabelle's commentary on how her job is to please fragile men with power fantasies) The guy who commented above didn't care to watch it, probably

At the time the trailer came out I have watched an episode of Law & Order SVU that had a similar plot (Woman that is the boss of a video game company gets assaulted). And I care to watch the movie. +1

Unity Falls I'm a decade or two younger and she's exceptionally beautiful. And a great actress. Outside of Isabelle, I liked this movie for all it had.

Some interesting directorial choices by Paul Verhoeven and one of the best written female characters of the last decade, impeccably performed by the perfect woman for the job, Isabelle Huppert. Also, it is much more than a rape revenge film. I don't think that the description does it justice.

No i'm agree with you - some french actors and actress are like that. As a french, when Isabelle speaks, she sounds very weird, not natural at all. No french speakers can't see that.

Why do all of these such and such “film festival” 5 star some sort of award winning movies with the fast paced violin music during the trailer always look sooooo cheap! Like it was “taped” on an old RCA camcorder, and recorded from a Zenith tv on a video tape with a VCR!!!!! That’s why people won’t watch some of these cheapo looking European movies 😑💁🏻‍♀️

She owns the company and I fail to see what your point is.The story does not revolve around video games.

Movies rarely portray the bad side of the film industry. Therefore, I'm suspicious that (like most films) this movie's just gonna end up having a mean-spirited attitude towards the video game industry and use it as a "scapegoat" to tell a story about how sleazy the film industry really is. Also, a film doesn't have to "revolve around video games" for it to _need_ to have a point for having the protagonist working at a video game company. Randomness is not good storytelling.

The protagonist works in a video game company to have a particular plot point set up. At large, the movie doesn't have anything to do with shaming the video game industry.

The point is obvious , video games are played by males who probably would assault a woman if they had the balls to leave their moms basements

I enjoy dark films just not dull, obvious plots.

The end was fascinating. She informed the rapist what she would do and let him make the final decision despite the risk. Maybe you were put off because there were no dramatic acting at key scenes. I cannot give more details away but the film is fascinating, you just don't get it.

*SPOILER ALERT* That's your issue, you can't seperate the ideas of her wanting him and try stop him at the same time. She liked him even before she knew he was the rapist and she has empathy for his condition although the affair was disfunctional. She explained very cleary that he might have had raped many people and would not stop; so she decided to report him and also let him know a day before. She did not kill him on purpose, in fact she left her live in danger just because she wanted the rapist (whose condition she understand) to decide himself. This is Paul Verhoeven and Isabelle Huppert. A short temper and instant insult over a youtube comment won't get you anywhere near understanding it. Sorry for my bad English, i'm a rice brain.
