This video was recommended to me and I really enjoyed it! Your comparison between the Ellie/David and Ellie/Abby fight was really interesting. I had never thought of that!
The story tells you. Archetypes are always used in good writing. In Santa Barbara Ellie is caught and hangs upside down (crucified like Peter) from a tree with her side pierced. Abby is crucified literally on a post upright like christ. It's not religious, it's symbolic of Abby paying for her mistakes. Atonement alone isn't enough. Her Satan still comes for her. And forgiveness is given on the beach.
Interesting video. As a standpoint for a reality perspective, you couldn't really blame anyone to be a predator if it was the means of survival and protecting the ones you love even if it makes you a bad person? It's more of a dilemma when the writers make a structured predetermined story with that climax... I might have believed Abbys story arc was redeemable if her father wasn't the one concocting the idea of a girl without her consent to die for a very small cause with humanity already at the end of their rope. Like Joel said, "That ain't you for to decide." Jerry Anderson was honestly a bad influence to set that in motion with Abby's feeding fuel.. but any human being would have the right to be upset for their loved one killed. It's definitely hypocritical when someone you love dies... you're not allowed to be upset for a politically correct reason? Humans have always been selfish creatures that are driven by curiosity for a vile justification. I would say Abby was trying to reflect with redemption after saving a scar child? To me it's still all apples and oranges
I absolutely loved Ellie as a character, however as i played through Part2, i began to really dislike Ellie's character and her decisions a lot. Other than getting revenge for Joel's death, her story was bear bones and had nothing much to it. Abby on the other hand had way more character development, the two seraphite sisters, her past with Owen, the WLF leader and the ongoing war between them and the seraphites, ect. I really feel that Abby was written to be the main character, and Ellie was just side character.
Yeah. I honestly was disappointed in being Abby at first, but then I started to see her as the better and more complete person. Was really disappointed in Ellie. Abby was has been the only character that has consistently strived to do the right thing, besides hooking up with her spoke for ex.
