it could be said about much of his other material but i dont understand how a person can sing about such terrible things and hold such a delicate tone. it's so easy to erase his personhood in grief or interest in the sheer mordidity of certain details - but beneath the publicity there was such a brave and gentle human. somewhere out there he is at peace, but its music like this that makes him feel closer to an ever present guardian angel. thank u elliott.
Love that there's an acoustic version to every song, even such a huge rarity. Thank you so much! The way he holds the falsetto for more than half the song is staggering. So fragile and beautiful.
I'm always amazed by how long so many of his songs were kicking around. If you listen to the live bootlegs, you'll hear songs from FABOTH first being played in the late 90s. He was playing most of Either/Or by early 1996. Such an amazing catalogue.
The quality of these “Summer 1997 Rehearsals” is amazing. Elliott was so prolific and on point during this time period and it’s so unique to hear him playing live acoustic, in a quiet room, and raw like this. I’m just super thankful that so many years after his passing, we still have new audio that comes out and it never fails to blow us away. There’s no other music that hits like this for me. Truly appreciate you putting these up @punchandamanda ❤
Oh my gosh! Right when I thought I have heard every song and every version of those songs that Elliott Smith created, there is something more. I hope more keep popping up in the near and far future.
If only there was more versions of this song. Esp wish I could hear him fully sing you may never understand this affliction although you feel the effects One of my favourite lines ever
Now that everybody's worn the expression Not that you wanted to use Seems untrue now But the funniest thing is It fits you now So perfectly [humming] You feel bruised now, body and mind you feel Used now, almost all of the time Been abused Abused Abused Sunday morning in the aisle with my brother Watching the man in black tell the youths how How they're supposed to behave, and tell the truth now You don't know what you're saying We've been abused Abused Abused Abused Abused Abused Abused
