“I Figured You Out” was recorded as a demo for Mary Lou Lord, who later recorded a version (produced, performed, recorded, and mixed by Elliott Smith) for her Martian Saints EP (KRS-264). Neil Gust plays doubled drums. “I Figured You Out” was recorded by Elliott Smith at Heatmiser House in 1995. The track was mixed by Larry Crane in May 2010, at Jackpot! Recording Studio.
Either/Or: Expanded Edition features the original tracks carefully remastered from original tapes under the supervision of Larry Crane. The second disc features five live multi-track recordings from the Yo Yo A Go Go Festival in Olympia WA in 1997, as well as three previously unreleased studio recordings and one b-side gem. The double LP is packaged in a gatefold jacket that includes an insert of the original liner notes, a postcard of the original master tapes, and several never-before seen photos. This gorgeous collection is an essential listen for longtime fans and newcomers alike.

It's crazy how every single song Elliott ever wrote was so incredible. I've never felt such a strong connection to any other musician and their music. He was truly one of a kind.

I only wish I got into Elliott when he was around...I can’t believe I somehow missed this amazing music when he was around and performing... I was into Nirvana and other Alternative/new wave music back in the mid-late 90s and regret not opening my ears more.... This song has literally been played a 1000 times in my song list lately... And to think Elliott thought of this song as a throwaway... Amazing

My experience mirrors yours exactly - I was very into the same kind of music in the mid to late 90s and for the life of me don't know how he got past me. I literally hadn't heard of him until just this past June. Even now a few months later, I am still really enjoying hearing some of his stuff for the first time. In a current time where there is no good music coming out anymore, it's been an unbelievable God send to have his music as "new" to listen to for me.

I thought you wrote just Drake at first, and I was pretty confused and shocked. And then for a moment I imagined it, but that only confused me more. Could you image ES singing the chorus in a Drake song / rap? It’s not very pleasant. But with Nick Drake, yes I could imagine it, and their voices together would be incredible. ES’s paper-thin spidery vocals with that subtle complexity alongside ND’s deeper vocals, the fluidity of his voice, it would be really great (understatement). [I feel like I read ES’s voice described that way in an article, but who knows, maybe it’s something sappy I myself came up with; probably the former as I’m not creative enough.] I would have loved to hear Elliott cover a Neil Young song.

we do not have the worldwide rights to the elliott smith catalog. this album will be released by another label in sweden. i suggest waiting to order from them so you can save money in shipping and we don't have to cancel your order. sorry about this. i wish we had worldwide rights but it's out of our hands.

Elliott Smith was a musical genius. I found him in 2008 and listened to him consistently over the years. His music definitely had a positive influence in my life during rough times.

Dan Sebestyen yea.. kurt and elliott were so different, of course.. but they give pretty much the same feelings, in a romantic way. doesn't matter which one was the best on singing, writing or playing. they were different. elliott adored kurt's music. and i don't have to explain anymore what i said or what i think. just enjoy this beatiful song
