Elm Trees 

Thanks for the video it was very interesting - I have been working with Natural England to protect some very old Elm woodlands in our village. It has been a hard slog trying to get the local authority to identify them and get more information about them to finally realise how special the trees are and that we should be protecting them. They have been continual woodlands and have great historical value. In addition, are immune to the Dutch Elm disease, or I should say have been isolated away from the Dutch Elm Disease. The council have informed me they will make their decisions on possible TPO's in September 2020, I find this hard to believe that it takes almost two years to do this when I put my request in September 2018 This is my opinion in not protecting historical woodlands and not enough emphasis is being placed on protecting important environmental elements in this county to enhance our biodiversity. Natural England have though put some of the woodlands on the AWI as an indication that these woodlands do need special treatment. Sometimes trying to protect the environment can take a toll, but if no one does it, what would we have left?

Here in West Cork,the Elms are coming back. The suckers died back two or three times over the last 15 years or so,but are now 30 feet high.

A very informative video, excellent presentation and very reassuring. I read of Brighton's initial work to save elms in the 1970's, in 'The Grower' and -The Commercial Grower'. There was a programme to save one particular tree at that time by spraying with 'Benomyl' and costing £5,000 p.a. It was a gloomy picture then. Thank You for Your video, I feel better!

Thank you so much for doing this video. I really appreciate it. I hope you can make more on other trees or anything else. How tragic this is happening. I wonder if it is just lack of biodiversity? Frogs are being decimated along with many other species because man in his haste is so eager to make money but not eager to preserve the land and its natural resources. Thankful there are people like this man and his colleagues out there.

Thank you for information, and a great video. So I have a large European Elm tree end of my garden Which provides nuts ?. Plus I have noticed a very large moth flying into the tree, and flying back out.

dutch elm wiped out so many trees here. We are still going into the timber to harvest standing deadwood red elm for firewood. It burns like coal :)

I tend to see a lot of hedgerow English elm trees, and I have one outside my house

We need to try to plant American Elm trees along with many native species of tree, including the American Chestnut tree. We need old growth, and the Fungi systems that help the forests break down organic mater .

Here in canada its destroyed all the elms in our windrows and waterways
