Before I escaped, like every Christian I, believed that a talkin' snake convinced the first woman to convince the first man to eat a piece of forbidden fruit from a magic tree. The responsibility of this act of disobedience was then propagated to every proceeding generation of humanity. Then, to save humanity from the eternal punishment that the creator designed (because he loves us) and powerless to change his own rules, had to sacrifice himself to himself for a day-and-a-half. This act of torture and blood sacrifice then opened a loophole and permitted anyone who believes this story access to an eternal life of pure joy. They also can pat themselves on the back, knowing that anyone who mocked or disagreed with them will burn for all eternity. Now, 2000ish years later, people pay 10% of their income to folks who read from a book and explain how they can live forever by believing in truth. Truth varies depending on how the book is interpreted. But, everyone claims to have it while reading from the book. Weird, huh?
