Neuralink is extremely fascinating. Lots of potential applications. I’m writing review papers with my Professor about Musk’s Neuralink patents and his goals for the future. As much as I admire the man, though, I’m not gonna lie, Neuralink kind of scares the living daylights out of me when I think about all the beautiful things it can do but also the potential for it to all go terribly wrong

The only thing I am terrified about this is other governments or even our government weaponizing the neurolink.

Are these neural links going to be online? If so do we need to worry about hackers hacking into our brain? This seems like awesome and very productive technology. I wouldn't mind having one myself my only fear is like I said somebody hacking into your neuralink and controlling you. I'm not even sure if that's possible but it's definitely something that needs to be looked into

For the handicapped/ill this will be wonderful. For the rest of us, when our employers order us to get them or "encourage" us to get them, and we are then hackable, subject to observation, subject to a technical malfunction, subject to gravity/momentum dragging any loose wires/connections through our brain tissue, this will be a NIGHTMARE. Sadly, Elon is quite an innovator so other companies might not have managed to achieve this much, and his other innovations/inventions may well enable the settling of Mars in bore tunnels. I sure wish that he had dropped this one. Other companies might not have gotten this far. "Downloading" your brain, and many claims are amusing baloney. Any connection to only one part of our brain cannot sense exactly what goes on in another part. The Heisenberg principle means that the microscopic parts of our neurons cannot be scanned and uploaded, except maybe with destructive, high energies. Read about what happens to fighter pilots during sharp turns. Imagine what will happen to your brain in a car/train accident or a fall or a rollercoaster, since the neuralink design apparently is connected to your brain by a loose wire. No thanks.

I grew up during the emergence of personal computers. Back then, and early on I hadn't even considered malevolent individuals targeting operating systems. Evil schemes emerged like making one's system unable to boot, holding a computer hostage until a ransom is paid, or making a computer generate spam in the background just to give three examples. The variety of evils could easily fill a book. People evidently don't learn from history. I can imagine authorities slipping in a payload. How about activating a person's pleasure center causing people to enjoy working harder for longer hours and for less pay, or paying extra money to the IRS, or falling in love with a totalitarian system. Don't let anyone mess with your mind because we've already seen how easy it is for the media to influence people.

As you get older and your body slows down and you experience more pain, this seems very tempting. Not to mention how to keep pace with tech change.

I'd hate to know what would happen if you defaulted on a payment with one of these things in your head.

Another possible problem with this tech is that the chip may get fried by some external stimuli (i.e. EMP), and it may inavertedly damage brain tissue :(

The answer is yes. This will practically change what it means to be human in some aspects. I always had an idea on this design but the chip would be worn on the back of the neck that can scan the brain like a signal. But this is better if the government approves this. It would help alot of people.

Because multi billion dollar corporations are incredibly trustworthy and should definitely be given direct access to your neural pathways. I'm sure they would never use this access for anything unethical, and that nobody will ever be tempted by the possibility of directly manipulating the thoughts of the populace.

The possibilities are astounding. Even if I didn't have any clinical malaise I'd get it, just out of intense curiosity. But not the first iterations. If Neuralink really does come out in 2022, it's going to be the Atari 2600 of brain chips. I think I'll hold out at least for the Playstation-level version. If the Masters of the Universe are going to be controlling me via a brain chip, may as well let 'em do it with a decent chip.

The way a brain transmits signal is different from how a computer transmits signals so this is interesting

No, I wouldn't get one, it's definitely exciting what we'd be able to do, but I want to see how people fare with it, test after test after test until we know all the details. What if the thing/crashes/doesn't work, or you are stuck in a virtual reality world when it happens, unable to get out! Or if someone could hack into your brain and access your memories, even your most private ones. Could this also work in reverse? Could someone gain control of YOUR body and make it do things you don't want to, like embarass yourself or commit robbery or murder?
