In a recent exchange on 'X', the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, Elon Musk, sparked a debate over the credibility of EVMs. The billionaire tech magnate suggested the elimination of EVMs, citing the risk of the machines getting hacked. Reacting to this, former Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar labeled Musk’s view as a ‘sweeping generalisation statement'. Asserting that EVMs are safe, Chandrasekhar also offered to run a tutorial for Musk on how EVMs can be architected and built correctly. Replying to Chandrasekhar's remark, Elon Musk stated that ‘Anything can be hacked’ Congress' Rahul Gandhi also supported the comment and referred to the EVMs as a ‘Black Box that can’t be scrutinised’.

I am a cybersecurity professional and I can confirm what Rajeev Chandrasekhar said was right - Almost 99.99% chances of hacking are reduced if EVMS are not internet connected and doesn't allow short range connections like bluetooth etc.

ohhh really????I am also working as software and radial frequency manager in an it firm, so cybersecurity professional tell me, what is difference between app and dpp modular which are specialised for EVMs, and what external programmes are needed to acess it. andhbhakts like you hasnt left any sone unturned for spreading fake news to influence gullible audience.

Elon Musk supports the right-wing in every country except India. Something is fishy here. Elon Musk should change his views. Only due to EVMs, booth capturing has seized. Ballot boxes are much easier to destroy than EVMs. It also takes much longer to count hundreds of millions of ballots and costs much more money to print so many ballots.

No they are not. A calculator is designed and made in one country (China) and sold worldwide. An EVM is only made in India by the Govt and only used in India. It can be compromised and played with in so many different ways.

China is mentioned as an EXAMPLE because it's the most likely place for such goods and more calculators are made in China than any other country. Clearly you are not an engineer, don't understand that hacking, manipulation and fraud can take place in so many different ways. "Internet based internet" is not the only way to hack. First talk to a good engineer at least 40 years old and until then don't waste my time. You don't understand the subject and are not an engineer.

For that matter our e-mails and information transmitted through computers can be hacked. So should we go back to our old system of postcards and pigeons? There are so many motor accidents happening. Should we go back to bullock carts? The advancement in technology is bound to bring risks along with it. But when the speed, accuracy, convenience and time savings outweigh the flaws, one must use technology, albeit with caution.

Even the Election Commission refused to give a few units to Indian hackers who challenged the EC. And EC did not have the guts to produce the source code in to open domain.

I respect elon musk for his hardwork and vision, but the way he uses his influence is very wrong.... Yesterday he just tweeted about apple to not let them include open ai in iphone by saying its dangerous on the other hand he is trying to build self driving cars and neurolink ( hypocrisy) He may or may not be influenced by china and china has invented a competitor for open ai and thus he may be trying to influence india as china does and go against Indian gov as they are not letting him easily here and supporting indian companies like mahindra and tata for e-cars and jio for telecom (competition for (starlink) There may or may not be problem in evm but the fact he is engaging in matters of India out of nowhere and pretends he the only saviour of humanity and other are villains seems quite sus to me... Just an opinion

No, paper ballots are not hackable. Each ballot is signed by the voter. In case of doubt, the paper ballots are right there -- physically present - and the signature of few selected voters can be cross-checked. Yes, using goons or guns you can stuff the paper ballots in to the box, **but** the signature will not match. Same force of guns or goons can be used with EVMs where the goons press the button instead of you pressing the button. So either way, this danger of goons remains. As for what they do in the US, why should we care? We are concerned about our elections. Elon's tweet was about EVMs in general and not about India. He did not mention India at all. It's your insecurity and reptile brain reacting to him for no reason.

Indian EVMs are not enabled with wifi... that much knowledge is sufficient to discuss this topic and for that people are named as andhbhakts. As far as the article numbers are concerned, thnx for sharing... I checked them. Nowhere it is mentioned that a foreigner can question the nature of protocols of Indian government. Elon Musk's comments are valueless if he did not target India.. if he had India in his mind, he need not teach the ECI to teach how to conduct elections. It's not so easy to hack an EVM. Only a few machines can be properly and safely hacked. If they do it widespread on each and every one of the 10 lakh machines then somewhere it will leak out. Has to be done carefully and not always possible.

It's merely an e-ballot. so this hacking word itself is not applicable and incorrect. If you mean to say the evms are manipulated after votes are cast that can more easily be done with physical paper ballots. so what's your point? Should we abandon e-ballots and somehow the entire machinery which is "hacking" these evms will not be able to "hack" paper ballots???
