As a 14 year old that was amazing but then you see the maturity as now a man with more experience and wisdom and the difference is massive. Knowledge and wisdom infused with the passion you can only get with experience of life. Amazing stuff. And a great example for all the younger drummers out there.
100% it's really fascinating how in refining he's also simplified his options down. The absolute thunder he brings in the couple of bars of metal to close out the solo, phwoargh!
Eloy?!! Can you remember Gustavo Meli?? In 2001 he's win the modern drummer fest!! and he's theach exercises and couch your perfomance for you festival in 2005
Eloy has that magic that all the greats have had, he is fast and accurate but also groovy in a way that non musicians can hear and be like "holy shit this guy is good", but then musicians can hear him and be like "HOLY SHIT THIS GUY IS REALLY GOOD!"
Just 10 seconds within his replay of this solo you can immediately tell how much his musicality improved. He had already mastered technique at 14 years old, but that was just the foundation to craft real musicianship (if that word even exists).
It's kinda emotional to see him playing it again nowadays. I still recall the moment that video took the brazilian drum world by storm. Look where it got him. It's amazing. Godspeed!
Samba is the thing that made me fell in love with rhythm and groove. When it's world cup season, you know that samba is coming to your TV here in Malaysia. It's great to have Eloy being the drummer of our time
This is actually the first time in something like 25+ years I'm hearing the name Horacio El Negro again. I saw him play at a drummers conversation but don't recall where in Germany exactly it was. That son clave stuck with me till today. Thanks for bringing up the memory 😊
Simplesmente o vídeo mais emocionante que já assisti de um solo. É a história recontada a partir dos anos; uma revisita após experiências e mudanças na vida de alguém. Enfim, emocionado. Parabéns, Eloy.
I remember seeing that Modern Drummer DVD back then and being completely blown away how good the kid was. Really cool see him now and how far he's come! Awesome drummer.
I invite you Eloy, the people of Drumeo and also Aquiles to watch the documentary of Gustavo Meli: Evolution and Sacrifice, it would be great Eloy if you could take an introspective and self-critical look because Gustavo Meli doesn't deserve your ingratitude, nobody argues that you are a great musician but if the content is empty and without soul it is useless, I leave you with this phrase of Gustavo Meli for you to reflect: If you don't take risks, the risk takes you and annihilates your self-esteem, always believe in your dreams and beyond the lights and fame being the musician of name that you are, look for happiness.
Jim Root said hilmsef, that got inspired by Eloy and is going to grab his guitar more oftern to reach Eloy's level. Can you imagine that... World Class musicians.
Wasn't Gustavo Meli, as You mentioned along These years with Vera Figueredo, your coach to win the MD festival unknown Drummer? It was worth mentioning
The way he was describing each breakdown of the piece made it sound so simple. And he was saying he couldnt play some parts, cmon now, of course he can, so humble, but the changes were so much clearer and groovier, he knew when to let it breathe through the feel rather than the technicality and those moments added a refreshing taste and flare and playfulness. Then he just melts your face with that metal groove at the end masterfully done. Eloy is a fantastic drummer indeed.
It's a relief to see that even an absolute monster drummer like Eloy says he can't play something anymore because he stopped practicing it. The man is human after all 😂
Eloy, I think you forgot a vital part of your learning and growth by omitting one of your trainers such as master Gustavo Meli. I hope you clarify this situation.
not only Eloy respect his past, we all in the #drummer comunity respect that, not all of us were able to play like that at 14 yo, so humble Eloy but it´s nothing else tha the effort everyday on his development that got him where his now, at the mayor leagues in #drumming ... cheers to Eloy Casagrande
I remember vividly watching this video and thinking "this guy is the future of drumming, and were the same age, that’s awesome!". I believe I was right after all these years!
Un talento incredibile ed un'intelligenza sopraffina al servizio del lavoro sullo strumento. Grande Eloy e grazie per il tuo esempio di dedizione ed impegno
Wow, I have been waiting for a video like this for so long and now I am not disappointed.! It was awesome watching that original solo when I was also 14 years old. And to see how eloy has progressed in drumming. Hell, yeah, buddy.!
The part on 9:32 is also a part of drum solo from Aquiles on Angra's DVD "Rebirth Live In São Paulo", Aquiles taught Eloy so well that Eloy was just replicating all of the parts from Aquiles. 😂😂
Wow, Eloy Casagrande, you’re not just a drummer-you’re a force of nature! Honestly, your drumming is so good, it almost makes me want to quit playing... but then I remember that I’m just a mere mortal. By the way, when are you planning to visit Brazil? I heard it’s a nice place for drummers. 😂 Keep being awesome!
My lord... what was he like at only 10 or 12? I'm so curious how LOUD it was there in the studio. He looks like he hits with insane power. ALSO! As a drummer, he's got one hell of a toolkit to draw from. Crazy versatile.
Brasil is such a rich country in terms of percursion based music, Eloi's is showcasing a bit of that and inviting everyone to learn more about brasilian music.
I watched Eloy back when he won the modern drummer contest. Only recently haven’t come across him again. And… wow… not only grew into a phenomenal drummer but also an incredible human being.
i've first saw Eloy play a lot at the good old EXPOMUSIC in São Paulo in 2005 , he was a kid that could play like hell haha, got so impressive at the time , so happy for his success . he is a hero for us Brazilians .
Wow his influence from this drummers no joke they are so great also the greatest thing is the Eloy got his style which is the most difficult thing in music have your own style hey man congratulations on your new bad ass band
It is a very interesting exercise. It is important to remember that we cannot be at the same time a Jazz drummer, a Latin drummer, a metal drummer. It is not a matter of "being able" to play something. I am sure that Eloy, with some practice to recall the skills, can still play a clave with his left foot and solo over it. But it is not who he is as a mature musician. Back when Eloy was 14 y/o so he was experimenting things, learning things to develop his skills and amazing talent. Now he is a mature, world class drummer and this changes everything. The tempo of his grooves are slower and much more relaxed and he still has the power and speed. Amazing.
It's incredible that with all the craziness going on, you can always check in with the left foot (high hat) whenever you want to bring you back into the groove.
All I can say is DAMN. The more I watch the more I understand why Eloy is considered one of, if not the best drummer ever. The man is straight up badass.
As a teenager I waited every year to get the Modern Drummer festival DVDs. So much influence came from what I saw in those shows. I specifically remember the 05 festival and him being there as a kid. This is wild to see again. Hell yeah!
When he is recreating the solo you can see that he is trying really hard to match the speed of his younger self but his technic is infinity better you can like he said dance to what he is playing now FUCKING INCREDIBLE. It's like those anime things were the character can't control his imense power only after training with the best and after some time
Eloy deberías nombrar a Gustavo Meli como tu profesor. Fue tu guía para llegar a ganar el MD y para que llegues a ser lo que sos. No deberías ser ingrato con tu profesor que además te preparó gratis.
what a beast, pocket, power, independence, groove, he's got it all and more... when I watch Eloy play, the only response I have is to shake my head in disbelief....😂❤️🤘🏽
For the guys at Sepultura to have any reservation over Eloys' choice to leave the band for Slipknot, I think is a misguided one. This moment he is in now is much like that of his solo at 14, in that it is expanding his career. He's a drummer everyone should know, and Slipknot can give him that opportunity. I'm very excited to see what he does next.
Much respect Eloy!!! To be be mature now and see yourself as a young man must have been mind blowing. Great video and retrospective analyses. Keep on rocking Bro ❤❤
