The year 2020 marks the one-hundredth anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which granted millions of women in the U.S. the right to vote. The Frick is celebrating with a series of videos honoring the stories of women who made, appeared in, collected, and took care of art in this collection.
In the second-to-last episode, meet Elsie de Wolfe, America's first professional interior designer, who decorated the Frick's Fifth Avenue home. #WhatsHerStory

Miss Marbury, who was from a very high profile New York family, also established a relationship with Anne Morgan, daughter of J. P. Morgan. For sone years all three women lived together. Anne added a wing to the home in Versailles and was responsible for the music pavilion. Elsie guided Mr. Frick on his purchases of French furniture from the French Royal Collection that he purchased from the Wallace Collection sale. Her 5% commission made her a very wealthy woman.

I remember hearing something about that - in the back of my head, I knew that one commission had made her wealthy (though I guess she was also already wealthy by inheritance)

This was brilliant. Who knew Elsie was a) such a bad-ass ("mere men" - what's not to love?) and b) a gay icon?...at least to art- and interiors-lovers. Impressive! Will much/any of her work be preserved as you open the second floor?

Can the sound on your broadcasts be adjusted, the volume increased? I have my laptop cranked up to 100% but still need to listen with my iphone and the two audio portions are never in sync. Thank you.

Make sure RU-vid's OWN volume is also turned up. It sounds like that might be the component you're missing. Look at the loudspeaker icon just left of the 'timings' numbers at the bottom of the video itself.
