I think that Elton was and is one of the very few people that can pull off great covers of John Lennon's solo work. Wonderful performance, and so full of emotion, it makes you want to tear up a little.

I never thought Elton's biggest gift was his signing voice. It's sufficient but unremarkable, IMHO, but I still love and respect him. And I agree that George Michael has a better singing voice. :)

I actually was in Melbourne - Australia when John passed and Elton played this song at his concert a mere 2 days later. The audience- many avid fans to this day of JLs sat and actually clapped to the beat tears streaming down there face and the lights dropped immediately after- it was then that Elton reallized John was dead. He recovered the show continued without fault. This version makes me think - God - I know who would have been there. Both versions brilliant. But why did we have to cry

Imagine what a wonderful voice and a powerful representation in our universe. He is simply the best! There is no other man that can sing so sweet and demonstrate kindness and passion via songs. John Lennon and Elton John were good friends, and Imagine is a message, not just a song. Elton John plays and sings it beautifully; John Lennon said "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one". Elton John is just proving that.

this is pretty much one of my favorite songs of all time...it's message is wonderful, he's not knocking religion or being part of organized religion he's just basically saying, "chill out we are all the same, why the hatred, and rules and need for possessions and other things?" We are all the same, created and loved by one god or higher power, can't we just live in peace? Very basic, sadly many won't embrace it... would rather start arguments on youtube...such the antithesis of his message...

it doesnt matter who sings it- the point of Lennon's music and life was to spread a message to the world about peace and love. Elton has as much right as anyone to spread the word. Lady Gaga sang it, Elton sang it, Lennon sang it- 3 very different people 3 different styles, but one song and one message : Peace.

That is what is wonderful about U S of A, everyone is entitled to their opinion. People should listen to the part of the song that says, "the world will be as one" meaning no boundaries, segregating based on beliefs, color of ones skin or lifestyles!!!! To each their own.....

Damn, i just found this, its CONgenial, meaning just awesome. Its a big surprise for me that this exists, and i am downloading it right now 3 minutes after discovery. But then, wht else to expect from him? Another guy does all the lyrics, he turns it into beautiful music, turns the lyrics into perfectly composed songs, initially mostly using the piano but now the full scale of what a band can deliver.

This was shortly before John Lennon was murdered in 1980. I didn't realize that Elton John had done such a vibrant interpretation of Imagine. I dig it.

The answer to world peace is not religon, but its respect. Respect all the others you know, respect all the others way of living, and never learn to hate living beings. There may be evil among the world, but do not assume that evil is christianity, islamic, muslim, etc. But religon, is the reason why we do not see peace. I feel unfortunate to say that.
