" Yes, this song evokes many pleasant memories. I thought, at the time the song was released, wouldn't it be nice if these two great adversaries could see each other as the pair in the song do? That is someone who wishes to know, understand, and even admire each other."
+Dodge Blake no he didn't bernie taupin wrote most of his songs. beyond that this song was more than his sexuality. it was about the attraction of humans beyond political barrier
I was a company commander in Berlin when this was filmed. Those soldiers portraying communists soldiers were under my command. I'm proud of them. The communist LT was a LT in our combat support battalion.
@@crabbcake I moved back to the states. The wall was still up when I left. The Berlin Brigade was a trip wire for NATO. Beside that, I love being able to see the difference between democracy & communism (sp?).
This song makes me think of "The one that got away", she was a Slav girl who I fell in love with and still remember almost 20 years after meeting her. The line "like ice on fire" describes her eyes when she looked at me.
WE SHOULD TEACH 80'S TO OUR KIDS IN SCHOOL....SO THEY WILL BEGIN TO PLAY INSTRUMENT'S AND S I N G ONCE AGAIN. THIS COMPUTER GENERATED RAP ,IS NOT ADHERING WELL TO HISTORY...people want to hear soothing music at the movies...rap music in a movie really takes from what it could have been....hope rap evolves into a more 80's sound before I die...i'm running out of new music....the 80's rockers will need wheel chairs soon.
I miss the eighties. Not just for music, not just for fantastic created honest good music by actual MUSICIANS, but for every aspect of human life. I have watched the changes that we have endured for the last thirty years and I look out of my windows now at the shite that we have walking around on our streets and seriously consider checking out. What do we have to live for now? Really! If you were not a grown up in the eighties, you simply do not know how much we have had taken from us in every aspect of human life. One solution, revolution! We all live in a yellow submarine.
I was 12 years old when I heard the song on TV for the first time. And every time I hear this song, I immediately think of this woman's beautiful eyes and smile. From the first moment I was fascinated

"Nikita" Hey Nikita is it cold In your little corner of the world You could roll around the globe And never find a warmer soul to know Oh I saw you by the wall Ten of your tin soldiers in a row With eyes that looked like ice on fire The human heart a captive in the snow Oh Nikita You will never know anything about my home I'll never know how good it feels to hold you Nikita I need you so Oh Nikita is the other side of any given line in time Counting ten tin soldiers in a row Oh no, Nikita you'll never know Do you ever dream of me Do you ever see the letters that I write When you look up through the wire Nikita do you count the stars at night And if there comes a time Guns and gates no longer hold you in And if you're free to make a choice Just look towards the west and find a friend
DIVINE VOICE !!! Great singer !!! Great personality !!! Fantastic singer with fantastic voice !!! BRAVO Dear Elton - BRAVO for the beautiful and emotional songs !!! All WE - All world love You endless !!! All we wait again Your fantastic concerts in Bulgaria !!! Always with a lot of love and light from Bulgaria
A song which displays the madness that was called "The Iron Curtain". An impossible romance was a good way to display it. It basically doesn't matter which side was "right" and which side was "wrong", human love is not bound to politics and yet politics made this love impossible. Catching story. And of course that is also the strong part of the story. The song does not lay the blame on any party but basically criticises the situation itself only. This was also the first Elton John song that I remember hearing back when I was a kid and somehow this song made some stuff clear to me even though I had not a full understanding back then of the split-Europe situation of the time (I was 10 years old).
+TheRealTricky Very good description of the meaning of this song. How many people do know this nowadays? The madness of the Iron Curtain, i was a teenager in the 80s. We went to Berlin for a school trip and had to take a fenced high way through the DDR. Everywhere watchtowers. The wall, the branderburger tor area was a no go area. Check point Charly in the middle of the divided city. Still a scar. And then the wall fell down. It was amazing, suddenly Europe was one continent again, we could travel, enjoy all the beauties of Europe. And now? Still many people are still hoping Europeans sing for them: And if there comes a time Guns and gates no longer hold you in And if you're free to make a choice Just look towards the west and find a friend
+TheRealTricky My uncle courted and married a Czechoslovak tart in 1979-80. He thought he was being followed by the security police in Brno at this time but he may have been drunk. The bitch dumped him after a year of marriage when her British passport came through.
Sure a few rotten eggs may have abused somebody's love to get into the west. However some "real" love stories have also been there. Of course romance in video and film is always better than the real stuff. But do you know how many people abused love and not for political motives? In other words, those rotten eggs do not really take the meaning of this song away, as you'll find rotten eggs in every situation you can fall in love in.
I did notice. And he's not the only one who appears to believe such a thing is the right thing to do. It's even worse there are people supporting him in his mad ideas. Of course the question is of Trump will actually get the position in the office or not (it may be a smart move to vote for Hillary Clinton even if you hate her, just to keep Trump out of the office. This is course assuming those two will be the "final" two candidates, and that scenario appears most likely now). Of course if Trump actually gets into the office we will truly learn if the world did actually learn its lesson from the bizarre situation Elton John describes here. Trumps ideas remind me of Geert Wilders in my own country (the Netherlands). And Wilders hits the top of all polls in my country. I guess the current generation has forgotten and the techniques of these gentlemen are very similar to certain guy who tried to get to power back when my grandparents were about my age and threw the world into dispair as soon as he won the elections. Supporters of one of these gentlemen will surely want to lynch me for comparing them with this guy like this (I'm prepared), but really I have my reasons for that. I guess guys like these are the solid evidence why history lessons are so important at school.
Such a catchy melancholy tune. Your Nikatl could be anyone. A whole bunch of buddies left behind when you unexpectedly had to go! Wondering for a lifetime 🤔 who made it home.🤫

Amei a música, o vídeo, a interpretação e a Nikita, claro.
I met her in 1968, I went to Berlin for 10 days, I crossed Check Point Charlie, wandered around in East Berlin, for the day, had supper there, afterwards had one beer, just for taste, then crossed at the British check point. The East German, at passport control, was Nikita, not really, a blonde, blue eyed female border guard. She looked at my passport, told that I was young, yes 18, in my best German, I told her, "Du bist schon". Which means you are beautiful, she blushed a bit, gave me back my passport, and told me to go. How about that, I can make a Commie go Red. I went there, because we were being conditioned to hate these people, I wanted to understand what really was there to hate, I couldn't find it, everyone I met was quite good to me, yet I knew well, that there were those in higher levels, who were conditioning their people to hate and fear us. Cold War Madness!
