When designers Dolce and Gabbana referred to children born through in vitro fertilisation (IVF) as "synthetic" and said gay couples shouldn't raise children, a very public spat ensued. Sir Elton John took issue. He has two children of his own, with husband David Furnish and said he would boycott Dolce and Gabbana products. A war of words took place on social media, but when the BBC's Katty Kay asked him about it on his recent visit to Capitol Hill, Sir Elton took a more conciliatory tone.
"In the end, life is too short not to have an olive branch and in the end an olive branch will be extended," he said. Sir Elton John also spoke to American lawmakers about AIDS and HIV. The music legend tells the BBC we can't be complacent about the disease.
