Elton can't sing like Freddie, of course - that is not the point. But what Elton does here, is filling the tribute with real, raw emotion. He REALLY knows what the song is about, he lived it.
Elton had to be fighting back tears as he sang this, so brave and amazing. It's an overlooked and quick little line in "Bohemian Rhapsody" (the movie not the song) when Freddie, after receiving that phone call at his birthday party, announces that John Reid is interested in signing the band and he says, "He looks after Elton John....." and Roger, Brian and John about lose their minds with amazement. Because already by 1972/73 Elton was on his way to becoming a huge star.
No one else but Elton could have sung this song the way Freddie would have liked it..The loss of such a dear friend, pushed Elton to a whole new level of awareness...See Paris .with the band.
I can't even imagine the emotion that was being felt by the band members or Elton John singing this song...amazing really no one broke down at all during those tribute. So much respect
Elton is a legend too and he did an awesome job. It's not fair to compare both voices. They're 2 different vocal singers with different styles. Freddie's voice was something out of this world.
I'm in tears, people judge Elton's voice but I cannot imagine better person and music together! It's so much more than "who has the best voice"... It's emocional!
Only Elton John could have done this hard job. It needs a good musical background, a powerful voice, and stage experience. Queen and EJ, they are all great artists.
Elton is fucking great! PS.: What joy it is to see such a fantastic artist and another masterful musician such as Tony Iommi playing something that's not 100% heavy/dark like in Black Sabbath.
I heard today that Freddie had recorded the vocal for this song just six weeks before he died. If you've listened to that vocal, you know it would have been excellent coming from a healthy person. The fact that it came from a man who was on his deathbed makes it beyond extraordinary.
The Innuendo album was released in February of 1991 and Freddie didn’t die until November of that year. So, The Show Must Go On would’ve actually been recorded in either the very early stage of 1991 or sometime in 1990.
@@lukewarren9069 I have to correct myself. The single was released six weeks before Freddie died. The fact remains, though, that he was very weak when he recorded it.
Show must go on- but for Freddie Mercury-- the show can stop For just a bit--- Freddie and Elton were the best of friends- they had so much love for each other
God this song always kills me, knowing the story but also just knowing how we can all relate to just having to pick ourselves up and keep moving forward when times are tough
I think you should not discuss if it is perfect. Elton never try to cover other people, he only give a tribute to a friend, I see him life when he sang for Freddy and it was magic. The emotion. Please give this your respect not a stupid comment.
If Elton had sung this before the 1986 vocal surgery, he'd have nailed it. Sadly, this was in 1992 and his voice had been altered by the surgery and was now too deep to really do this justice. He gives it a bloody good go, but particularly on the bridge, you can see he's straining like crazy to hit notes that years before he'd have had no trouble with.
And yet, I can't think of anyone else who would've given this song the energy it needed to do it (and Freddie) justice! You can really see the raw emotion he puts into his performance!
George. He’d have done it better. He already had three songs though so others had to have a go, but he wiped the floor with everyone with Somebody To Love.
Это в память Фредди 😭😭просто друг исполнил его песню, эх Фредди 😭😭😭ком в горле и слезы , самый лучший музыкант, чистый и необыкновенный человек, красивейший мужчина 😍😍😍😍😘
