My dad sent me this song earlier today and said that he knew I didn’t listen to country music but knew that when I heard this I’d love it cause he thought of me when he heard this. I ain’t gone lie I almost cried I had to smile big lol. My dad took me in when I was younger and he’s got two other children of his own. I love that man like he actually help create me. He may not have physically, but emotionally, and mentally, he has helped shape me to be the man I am today and I love him with everything in me. When people see him I point proudly bein 23 saying that’s my dad right there and him being a Caucasian Man it makes people scratch their head. Love shows no color. As you know you’ve heard my story. Awwwww now thanks alot you got me crying. Beautiful story and I wish every white man would open their hearts to ppl with darker complexion then their own.kudos to your dad. This song is special to me as well my ex raised my 2 son's like they were his own. Then we had a son together and he literally loved them all the same. Mr Shane. I am a father of 4 adopted children. I was working the other day when I first heard this song, I stopped what I was doing and ran to the radio to hear it better and find out who sang it. Thank you Sir, for putting to lyrics what I have been feeling for 24 yrs. I can't lie I did get choked up and had a tear run down my face. Great song, wish you all the best with your music career.

I was adopted and I know your children are so blessed to have you. When we are young we don't express that very well. When I was older I finally told my parents in a very meaningful way how much they mean to me. I expressed how grateful and blessed I am that they chose me. I also told my Dad I noticed how hard he worked for us. When I was a young I never thanked him although I doubt he expected me to. Still, I'm glad I got that chance before my Dad passed away.

Makes me cry every time I listen to it. My dad wasn’t my biological father, but he taught me everything about life and was a phenomenal man to my mother. He saved our family and taught us that we deserve to be loved. He was my hero. I miss him every single day. RIP Dad. I hope you know how much you meant to me, I love you.

I turned 27 in june and my father died a year ago in May. We weren't very close and didn't have the relationship I would of liked to of had. It hurts me a lot knowing amends can never be made but I know that when I become a father I'll be extremely loving and supportive and not repeat the same mistakes he did. Regardless of if the child is biologically mine or not. Which is a big change because in the past I was against raising someone else's kid because I want my own. But now i realize that's selfish and there's lots of fatherless kids that need love and guidance.

The issues that my ex and I had are in the past and I have remained a part of my sons life. I'm still happy to see a song that celebrates the other man that he can call dad. My grandpa met my grandma when she already had two kids of her own. He raised them like they were his flesh and blood. They don’t remember him not being in their lives. Their biological dad wasn’t really in their lives. So my grandpa happily filled those shoes. He loved them so much, and knowing that made me love him all the more. It’s so hard to balance being a stepdad when the real dad is “kinda” around. I met my boy when he was 12, and I knew he’d never call me Dad. I always introduce him as “my son” and I’ve always felt the best I can do is be a good role model, teach him how to treat his mom, treat other women, treat other people the right way. He’s on his way to being his own kind of man, not exactly like me, but a solid person who is equipped to make his way in the world. I’m not sure if the song or the other comments made me cry more.

My aunt was adopted into our family when she was very small. One day she went to my grandmother crying because kids at school told her she wasn’t really theirs. My grandmother replied that she wasn’t just born into our family, she was chosen. Makes me think of her and tear up. She’s been gone for a long time but she’s a legend in our family.

I met my son when he was 5, he just turned 16 last week. I wasn't there for his first steps, but I haven't and won't miss anything else. It has been the most rewarding experience I have ever gone through watching him grow up. That’s awesome. As a 20yr old with a father that isn’t technically mine and loosing him due to battling ALS I’ve learned that I’ve gained more respect to him solely to the fact he didn’t have to raise me. Agree, but also. I was blessed with 2 great Dads and 2 great Moms. Civil divorce is possible when children are put 1st. When differences are put aside, and children prioritized. Families can actually grow. Not all blood is family, and not all family is blood.

This song makes my heart smile. My son has raised his "son" from age 6 weeks. He's now 12 and we've loved him from the first day he mom brought this little bundle of joy into our lives. His name is Victor. I call him Bruno. He's a cute Hispanic boy in a family of African Americans. And he's just as smart and happy as all the other children in our family. been in my step sons life since he was 6 months old, I saw his first steps, they were in my house in Arkansas before I moved up to Kansas City to be with his mom and him. He turns 11 in April. Im the only dad he's ever known. When he calls me dad, it feels the exact same way as it does when my other bio son calls me dad. They are my boys!!!! Mom passed away last April from a car accident, 1 day before his birthday. 1 year later and our bond couldn't be stronger. That's MY boy! Hang in there son. Holyyyyyyy shit does this tune hit home! My dad has been in my life since I was 3 months old cuz my “dad” didn’t want a kid at the time. Well I still haven’t met and don’t even really care to meet that guy, 36 years later now! But the man I call dad has done everything and more than I could have ever asked for! Never mattered what it was, when it was, he has always been there when I needed anything, and taught me everything I know! I might add that we lost my mom in 93, when I was 9 and had two younger brothers, 8 and 6 at the time. I sang this to my baby brother today (while changing the lyrics that say son to brother) we have different dads and don’t really look that similar, he’s only a year old, but I wanted him to know that for his entire life, I’ll always be there. I also made my mom cry while singing it. My dad wasn’t there for me when I was a kid, so I promised myself I would make sure my brother gets to have the childhood i never did.

Heard this song randomly on the radio and this just reminded me so much of my father, he came into my life when I was 3 and he's the only man I'll ever call father. I cry hearing this song with ever verse the tears keep rolling cause that was my childhood thanks to him! Dad's aren't always the ones that helped conceive them the real Father's are the ones that Stay for everything
