I think I know what Elvis is talking about. He made some comments trying to be smart using words that were meant to be provocative and ironic to some people getting on his nerves....He had no intention to be political or racist. It was ill judged. You can see hate in peoples eyes, and those are the ones that people really need to be mindful of. I love Elvis. No one is beyond criticism but if we are all judged by stuff that we said or did when we were young we are all in trouble.
Just to add when I say stuff we did when we were younger - I don't mean actions that really did motivate hatred towards other people, but fleeting comments taken out of context.
Wow. So many thoughts about 8 mins of video. I guess the largest thing that pops out to me is Elvis' struggle to talk about his past media transgressions. Race. Class. Power. We are forever having the same discussions. Its so wild, his story was told again 5 years ago when John Mayer gave his infamous interview to RS. Can I saw we need to speak more about race, and less about race? The work Elvis has done in his career tells you all you need to know about his view on the world. Truth to Power.
See this is why I respect Elvis Costello and not Eric "The clap" Clapton. Costello said something stupid & misunderstood 35 years ago. He soon after admitted to it, apologized and is isn't scared to discuss it. That's "manning up", keeping it real. Clapton says something stupid & ignorant 38 years ago at a concert of 2000 people. Not once but stops the show several times to emphasize his point. He doesn't admit to it. Costello= class act. Clapton=classless coward.
Costello appeared at Rock Against Racism concerts *before* the infamous Colombia, Ohio episode. He also wrote anti-fascist songs (for example Less Than Zero) before his ironic, coke-fuelled, drunken racial slurs. Ray Charles graciously accepted his heartfelt apology and so should we.
Bonnie Bramlett is so much better of a musician just listen to Delaney and Bonnie the original and nobody could say Elvis is anywhere near as good as Bonnie
@@jasongray4517 Elvis can’t sing and his writing is laughable. The fact he called Ray Charles a blind ignorant n***r shows his character is as bad as his music.
LordByron123 I can see where you might be coming from. I personally don’t listen to either of them very often, but they’re both talented musicians and I enjoyed hearing them speak, regardless of their skill.
Big smokes S He absolutely is overrated (in addition to being overweight). His knowledge of music is more impressive than his drumming or anything else he’s done in that idiom. He’s a character, that’s why the media has singled him out and hyped him up. Take away that retro fro with his “trademark” Afro pick and his enormous Fat Albert appearance and he’d be just another music nerd “DJ” (oh you play other people’s music...how phenomenal) who can play drums pretty good.
