Elvis Costello perform 'Accidents Will Happen' as part of a Later With Jools Holland special on 18-06-1996. This song appeared on the original 'A Case For Song' VHS of the show, though was ommited from the DVD reissue.
Got to see these guys in 1978 and believe me when I tell you...Elvis got even more bad press than critical acclaim. He was a real anarchist not a poser. This was the best "new wave" band of all time. Bruce Thomas is incredible.
One of the very best examples of Costello/Attractions skill, musicality and appeal available on youtube. Surely sufficient to convert the most intransigent of skeptics. Wonderful.
It's a great performance, tears4fears1000, TheOuterBoogie. I got it on a Rykodisc CD in the early 90's but I'd been looking for it since hearing the free 7 inch promotion in around '79. It's always meant a lot to me.
Oh I just don't know where to begin Though he says he'll wait forever It's now or never But she keeps him hanging on The silly champion She says she can't go home Without a chaperone Accidents will happen We only hit and run He used to be your victim Now you're not the only one Accidents will happen We only hit and run I don't want to hear it 'Cause I know what I've done There's so many fish in the sea That only rise up in the sweat and smoke like mercury But they keep you hanging on They say you're so young Your mind is made up but your mouth is undone Accidents will happen We only hit and run He used to be your victim Now you're not the only one Accidents will happen We only hit and run I don't want to hear it 'Cause I know what I've done And it's…
Search this here on you tube:Elvis Costello Accidents will Happen Hollywood high 4 june 1978. It's here, I just listened to it, but I can't figure out how to post a link for you.
Todd Leeuwenburgh Yes, I'm sure the band is in charge. The band is rushing, and he is laying back. To be on the back side of the beat is not "singing late as f."
Sorry for words I used, But listen and it doesn't sound good, and it's a pet peeve of mine, especially when my favorite artists do it. Think: Would it be okay for a guitarist, bassist, and above all, a drummer ? to be that late on so many entrances?
+Todd Leeuwenburgh agreed, Pete Thomas is pure clockwork, have a look @ the BBC video of "TKO", brilliant drumming! As per Mr McManus, I'd guess after playing these songs millions of times he has to find the way to stay amused and amusing :-)
Of course a valid and effective technique, singing across the bar lines... very expressive. Check Billie Holiday and many of the all time greats. The original version is still out there if you prefer. I like hearing a great artist interpret his material as he sees fit.
i have searched everywhere for the slow version of this song (which im sure i didnt dream) for so long, i think it featured in a tv show called the wonder years some time ago now, if anyone can direct me toward this version i would be sooo happy.
Hehe. Just to add to the 'late as f' fun, check out this unseemly mess wherein our hero redefines the technique. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-679CSKOX4NI.html
Frog Prince To you This is what so many people can't understand. The only way to truly measure it objectively is in success of sales I love both hugely
V T I think he’s better at writing outside of his own box writing diverse material thsn Paul McCartney. no matter how perfectly made some of PM songs are, they all sound about the same to me, IMO. I love both dudes but I give the edge to Elvis.
Bollocks. It's his song, he can do whatever he likes with it. If you want to hear the record, listen to the record. If you want to hear a fresh interpretation, listen to live stuff
