Lyrics:
Oh I wish I was in the land of cotton
Old times there are not forgotten
Look away, look away, look away Dixieland
Oh I wish I was in Dixie, away, away
In Dixieland I take my stand to live and die in Dixie
Because Dixieland, that's where I was born
Early Lord one frosty morning
Look away, look away, look away Dixieland

It really does! I don't care what age you are how can you not like Elvis. I'm 40 and love him..such a talent! My dad who's 79 grew up in the 1950's in Jackson, Tennessee not far from Memphis where Elvis made his start. His next door neighbor was Wink Martindale who was the first to person to interview Elvis on his radio show. Wink and Elvis became lifelong friends. Many of you probably know that Wink became a legendary game show host and he's actually in the Guiness Book for most different game shows hosted. Needless to say my dad loves Elvis too! He remembers local preachers talking about the evils of rock and roll. Preachers all across the country were saying the same thing. Wow how far we've come from that time!

@mrs_bungle
@mrs_bungle 2 года назад
@@CP-vi2rm its about the US Civil War
@memphisflashfan1
@memphisflashfan1 2 года назад
@@CP-vi2rm How I understood it, and what I’ve read elsewhere is that it begins with Dixie, of course the song of the Deep South. Then Battle Hymn of the Republic comes in which was the anthem of the Northern soldiers and then finally the resolution of the Civil War- people have died to resolve the conflict but “Glory, Glory Hallelujah, His Truth is marching on” reflecting that the truth of freedom and man’s dignity won out. It took me a long, long time to step back and take a closer look at the lyrics and fully appreciate how profound this song actually is. Regrettably I think that many understand it as some racist anthem when it was so much more, the opportunity for healing after a bitter conflict. IMHO. Sadly in 2022 our societal conflicts are on the news and in the streets nightly. They should rerelease this song coupled with “If I Can Dream” which Presley recorded in honor of Martin Luther King Jr after his assassination.

@@shyba2011 The negativity is this in short, a lot of people today (mostly in the USA) take offence to the Civil War era of our history saying it is mostly racist, they only teach 4 things of the Civil War era in schools here today, 1. Lincoln freeing the slaves 2. The Gettysburg Address 3. Lincoln's Assassination and 4. President Ulysses S. Grant being the 7th out of 12 presidents so far to have the rank of General and also become president of America, the Democratic party in US is ashamed and is blaming the "not wanting to free the slaves" thing on the republicans *_WHEN THAT IS A LOAD OF BULLSHIT AND THEN SOME!!!!!!_* The party that Abraham Lincoln was a part of *_IS THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!!!!!!!!!_* The democratic party says that it was *_THEM_* that freed the slaves which is false in actuality it's the other way around the democracy majority of the Confederacy was the *_DEMOCRATS!!!!!!_* The democrats wanted to keep slavery, the republicans wanted to *_FREE_* them and now the jackasses wanna blame it on Ole Dixie saying that flag is racist, when it's not.

“An American Trilogy” (1972) was recorded live from an Elvis Presley concert. A medley uniting three traditional folk songs, “Dixie,” “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “All My Trials,” in a symbolic effort to bring America together. The recording was taken from the evening show by the superstar on June 10, 1972 at the Madison Square Garden, New York City. ONE MAIN EVENT❗️ Priscilla Presley cited this and “If I Can Dream” (1968) as her two favorite Elvis pieces. It's so cool how so many people impersonate Elvis, and do a pretty good job mimicking his sound; but then the man himself sings and can't be mistaken.

So hush little baby, don't you cry 😢 You know your daddy's going to die..." Listened to this laying in the grass with the warm sun on the countryside with my best-friend and soulmate true artist like me. Tears running down my face... I did not know why this song spoke so much to me... It killed me when I heard the lyrics, my father died unexpectedly one week earlier. He was my Best Friend all through my childhood, trusted him more than anyone 😢 Feel that he's still with me and my daughter, though. All his empathy, sense of humour, intelligence, it died with him, but it continues in us who knew him 💙💙💙🦋💙 Peace and love to all the free spirits out there ❤ 🙏🏻🌻🩷💙

I think this must be vocal from single release 1972 , Aloha From Hawaii 1973 vocal is best I've heard. I like the upward spiraling notes during Glory glory Haleiluja and the Duane Eddy's guitar helping to bring the music back down

Remember when Elvis did it in Hawaii and after the flute solo his orchestra blew the walls out and Elvis yelled "take it home son"!!! The band pumped him up and he finished the song powerfully. This version just ain't there. This is a Priscilla's project. She might have been his wife, but I swear she don't know his music! The Trumpet player don't have no chops, the drums are not in the forefront, and these players have no soul. And they don't even use Elvis best vocal on this. I know Elvis music like the back of my hand, and I know Elvis would not approve of this.

Not bad, but there's something wrong with the tempo. It's like they tried to slow it down. I don't know this, but I'm assuming Elvis' vocal is from the single version of this song (recroded February 16th 1972) and that track is originally 4:15 long. And on a personal note I think they should have chosen his vocal from Hawaii in January 1973.
@Josequis05
@Josequis05 9 лет назад
Yeah your right.. It is quite off.. But what I've noticed is that most of the song was spliced together from other performances.. The aloha from Hawaii vocal is definitely on here & you can tell but the ending is from the Feb 1972 concert
@argyrokoukoula2689

+peze80 If they had chosen the Elvis's vocals from Aloha to accompany RFO it would have been like Elvis singing almost acapela ..They were oblidged to reduce the vocal passion and that's what they've done so that to sell a different package. Absolutely wrong marketing according to my opinion but it seems that RPO needs some fame lifting anew and Elvis's legacy always sells.

I believe you will see your Grandpa again in Heaven just like I will see my loved ones. Hopefully, Elvis will sing his wonderful song in Heaven with all the angels. Hang in there! God bless you! I have a confession to make, everytime I hear this song it takes me back to the first - and so far only - time I've been to America! I live in Sweden and I was 10 years old and my mom had bought the cd with Elvis Aloha from Hawaii shortly before we went to America! I know that this song was on that cd and we played it a lot before and after we came home from there! I have always loved this song so much since it really takes me back to those days! For some reason this song especially - of all the 29 or so songs on that album- this is the one that most takes me back! We - actually me,my mom and my brother- were there for about three weeks visiting both New York and also a friend who lived in Iowa! We landed in Chicago but this friend lived about 4-5 hours of driving outside of Chicago! So we were driving along the American highways in Illinois and Iowa seeing this awesome landscapes... I have to say these three weeks made a huge impact on me and still to this day (im 30 today) it makes me happy thinking of that trip! Its amazing how three weeks can make such a big impact even 20 years later. Honestly It's getting me kinda emotional hearing this! Definitely the most amazing and awesome trip ive done in my life!! I really really hope I can go back there some day! :)
