LOVE these "lessons" you give us! So interesting and informative. You are amazing!! Thanks again for your determination and dedication to get all this information to us.
Thank you for sharing that I loved it. I feel in my heart that Scotty Moore was a really great guy he always seemed to be smiling and happy. I am glad that you get to do all those things and all the people you meet how wonderful your life is thank you again for everything that you do and Trey may the Lord bless you both sending prayers blessings hugs and love always to you and your family
i live in the Netherlands, where Tom Parkers (Dries van Kuijk) is from. Nobody ever heard of a Dutch person to have such a tremendous power! it is unheard of and untill this day, it still is. In the Netherlands we also know very little about him. Him family came foreward, through a program 'Veronica' channel Thanks for your video, i enjoyed it :)
"There are few outlets for hillbilly entertainers.." Hilarious. From the management of Hank Snow who was more hillbilly than Elvis ever was. Maybe they held on to Scottys letter and checked Elvis out to see what he was about. The Colonel obviously saw something special in Elvis which not everyone did and he took him from local to nationally to internationally famous in a very short space of time.
I'll be waiting for the news about that historical amp. It's a very important amp for all the guitarists who search for the real sound of the '50s Rock 'n' Roll & Hillbilly. Thank you, Sir.
Spa Guy, you are truly amazing! Thank you for all your incredible research and the unraveling of so many mysteries. Elvis would be so impressed and honored.
Sitting in my car in this Hell Hole (California) watching another one of your great Elvis Videos. I love your videos. You sure go the extra mile on the facts and details. Good Job ! Robert in Los Angeles 😎
Man I Love your Elvis videos! As a collector of his personal memorabilia it's great to see someone covering the fine details with onsite video to put history into modern context! Keep it up! Consider some videos of Elvis younger days in Tupelo? Something often over looked.
I have shot in Tupelo one day but plan on spending a couple of days soon covering all angles there.. I have some people there who were there back in the day so I plan to bring some inside stories.. Thanks for watching..
I also wanted to add that though I am videoing these for others to watch, going to these places and reliving what happened there really brings them to life for me.. I remember as a kid looking at the Elvis magazines and reading the books and seeing pictures of Graceland and wondering what it really looked like around the neighborhood and around the places where these things happen, Unfortunately a photo is great but it really limits the story... So when I go to tell a story I am trying to show you what it looks like around the area and I think it brings the story more to life than the photo ever could..
You are doing a fantastic job, and I, for one, really appreciate the dedication to Elvis, Elvis truth and the finer details. You are very enjoyable and knowledgeable, and I look forward to what you are coming up with next. Thank you so very much for all you do !!
Hello from England You need the help of Huggy Bear. - Starsky and Hutch -I loved watching them back in the 70's on TV. My late parents would let me stay up
Hey spa guy. Great content! More please my friend! I'm curious about the locations of American sound studios and stax. I know these studios are no longer there and I don't recall any pictures of e outside either of those. But any information on these locations would be 👍 Conrad, 🇬🇧
Thanks for the Videos. Great job! Can you do a video tour in Graceland? The staff at Graceland dont care about Elvis and dont go out of their way to help you either. Thanks! Huntley Illinois
I feel like I’m walking in Elvis’s footsteps every time I watch ur videos! I knew u r a Starsky! Always impressed with ur detective skills. Imagine the Colonel not wanting to sign Elvis, because he was a Hillbilly. Nothing wrong with a Hillbilly. Well done as always. Peg
Another great vid! I'm in the middle of reading George Klein's book (I have read many others too) and whenever Ellis Auditorium is mentioned I wonder where the location was. So many amazing musicians of the time performed there!
Is there a video about the Spa Guy and how and why the Elvis videos and research started? I have thoroughly enjoyed watching all of the videos, I love visiting historical spots. I recently bought a lake house in Georgia near a Civil War camp site and I'm in the process of locating the exact locations of General Sherman's march to the sea. Keep the videos coming. I may need to call your office about parts for my old Morgan spa! LOL
Да, действительно .. Я начинаю субтитрировать свои видео на русском языке .. Все новости будут, и я начну возвращаться и делать с более ранними тоже .. Спасибо за просмотр .. Spa Guy
Starsky would have been jealous; you DO A FANTASTIC job Mr. Spa Guy! Wow 🤩 LOL, “doesn’t represent Hillbilly acts”-can you imagine? Omg 😱!! Thank you 🙏 for your work. Another wonderful “travel in time” ! I love your photos and your info is GRADE A! 👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😘 ( now I’m hungry for a giant hamburger 🍔!! 😂 ) AND you got to PLAY on that amp? WOW !! Yes, please research it, that’s be fascinating!!
Great channel! You are going to be as successful as Adam the Woo with this great content. I saw Elvis perform at Freedom hall in Louisville KY in July of 1976. Did you ever see Elvis perform?
Thank You I love Adam The Woo you can probably tell I am a fan of his work.. I was 12 when he passed so sadly I never did.. You were very fortunate.. Thanks for watching, Spa Guy
5 years too late watching this Spa Guy 😁 Really enjoyed that video.. I've actually walked about around there....on my trip to Mud Island ! They also shot lots of the Tom Cruise movie ( The Firm ) in and around downtown Memphis! And on Mud Island 👍 Very interesting video Cheers Billy 🥂
Hiya Shug- I wonder if Alan Fortas was kin to Sam Fortas? About the Ray Butts EchoSonic amplifiers, there's a great guitar player named Deke Dickerson. He's done years worth of work documenting early R&B, Western and Rock n Roll musicians... I'm pretty certain that he owns one of the two Ray Butts amps that were owned by Scotty Moore. Cheers! S
Sure love your videos of Elvis History in grand ol' Memphis. Any chance you could research the American Studios location where Elvis recorded all those great Back in Memphis songs with Chips Moman? Thank you for sharing all your Elvis research with us.
Elvis was called a hillbilly? If he was a hillbilly he was a smart one, his rise to the top prove's Elvis knew what he was doing. He was a self made man and deserve's a lot of respect. I would think Elvis would've just laughed the hillbilly thing off. If you've ever been around a real hillbilly you will find they have a lot of common sense and a very good sense of humor.
Hi friend. I’m just so amazed how you know all the information on my frist Love Elvis. I have a lot of questions for you but now I need to find out if you travel to Graceland is there really a tunnel under the home? Thank you for being such a nice guy. Your friend Cathy
My favorite song of Elvis is All Shook Up as l first heard it on a wall juke box.Spa guy can you do a video on this song and the flip side.Your fans know almost nothing of the history of his songs.Allso the making of the special sound on these songs.
Just saw this video and loved it. So much information about Elvis and the Colonel. You mentioned a friend of yours has the wood in the Colonel’s office. I would love to have a small piece. Is he selling?
You are mixing stories up.. Taylor's Cafe next door to Memphis Recording Service which was never Sun Studio and that is where Sam Phillips, Marion and Scotty talked about Elvis and Scotty got his phone number called his that afternoon and auditioned him the next day..
@@SpaGuy thanks and I really enjoy your videos. I'm a truck driver from Murfreesboro TN. I have driven by so many of these place you show, many times, including Graceland and never knew the history behind some of these places. Thanks for all the info
Spa Guy, thank you for sharing. I did not know this is when and where Elvis met Colonel Parker, what went down in the restaurant across the street. I did not know Scotty Moore was Elvis' first manager, wow, how it was in those days, but they were very young. What a music history picture when Elvis signed with the Colonel! (Yes, Roy Acuff was as hillbilly as you could get.) I know you will research as much as you can, to be right, and the respect you have for Elvis. It is very interesting about Elvis and his music history, every bit of it. From A Nashville Girl (MUSIC CITY USA PROUD!) - (Was a lady hollering at you when you were pointing out where the two structures were located?)
How is it not stolen valor for him to call himself a Colonel? The implications of calling oneself "Colonel Tom" indicates to me that individual was in the military at one time. During those times, I would imagine people assumed he was a WWII Vet and retired as a Colonel. I am not disparaging anything the guy did with Elvis' career, but do we know exactly how the man came to be called by that name?
Come on Man you really don't know anything do you? He was a Kentucky Colonel which has nothing to do with the military.. Look up Kentucky Colonel like Colonel Sanders from KFC..
I WOULD love one if anyone has one for sale, and not need a bunch of money(which I don't own) am a big Scotty fan. and OH HOW HANK HATED TOM PARKER. in fact in Hanks book, he said he was going to manage Elvis and got screwed
Great video Spa Guy ❤ you were brave riding that hoover board while filming😃 Why did The colonel later contracted Elvis when he first turned him down, was it maybe because after that's all right mamma and heartbreak hotel? This is a real interesting story. I always found it sad Scotty left about some money disagreement ( that's what I read) but later returned at the '68 special. He just got paid he told later in an interview and no cars for him. I did not get the idea they were friends, yet on the photos they seem to be hitting it of. Elvis must have known Scotty made that unique sound that also made the records and Elvis famous. Did he really did not play again for 20 years? That's a shame, what was the reason behind that and did you do business together in hot tubs? Look forward to more great stories ❤
Col looks so thin. You state Hank Snow also had a part in the management company. He is a Canadian from the east coast. Played as you know many yrs at the grand old Oprey. Allow me to tell you a story. Back in 1986 I somehow had a guy Harry Rusk ask me if I could get him to sing for free in the Vancouver area for a week. Met him singing & told him I liked his performance. He lived in Edmonton at the time so anyways I took him at his word. From the Monday to Friday he wanted to sing for free here in the Vancouver area. Well I got him to sing in 15 places in 5 days!!!!11 or 12 pm. Then 2 or 4 pm & then at. 6 or whatever time. Prov jail, Expo 86 World's Fair ( pravillion of promise ) prov. Mental health hospital, senior homes, Salvation Army miracle valley, a Salvation Army juvenile place, anyways 15 places in 5 days. I set it all up just by phone too. Even the Oakalla Jail ( torn down now ..Burnaby BC ) Harry was about 50 at the time. He must be 80 now. Has the Order of Canada. First native to have sung on the grand old Oprey , he is also a Christian. He got interested in playing guitar because as a kid with turburculocus (sp?) in a big ward with other ill Indian kids Hank Snow visited them. Yes Harry a Rusk got better & learned to play & sang a lot of Hank's songs.
Yes I heard from Billy about another picture I have and he responded about the picture but has not responded since.. I am working on some Billy Smith stories..
Spa Guy I'm so glad read n c that Billy is still living! :) How is the rest of the family and do they still live in Memphis? Thanks for all your hard work n posting all of Elvis history! My Best, Amy
I saw a video of urs on Colonel Parker and turns out u have a Playlist...let the learning begin 😊 perfect timing too I've got a book on "the Colonel " so w bolth sources I feel like I struck gold ,thank u so much for the time and effort u put in into ur videos much appreciated
Mr Perryman told me that when Elvis and some of the other hayride acts would go to gladewater and perform live at ksij , the radio station Mr Perryman djayed for. Mr Perryman said it was around 1954- 55
I enjoyed seeing that, thanks so much. I wish they wouldn't tare building down. Turn it into a museum or, use it for something else. Than people can go see it. That's why we don't have old buildings in this country.
@@SpaGuy yep i am a history buff as well . . . Watch alot of utube history vids , i was into photography as a 20 yr old , freezing history i find is mesmerizing 😊 that lasted 2 years and i got older an got married . . lol
I d like to add when Elvis first heard about the Colonel, Mr Perryman told me that he told Elvis the Colonel wouldn't want to manage him because like you said the Colonel didn't manage hillbilly acts.
Bryan I have no idea what Elvis got paid but Scotty told me he made 30,000 total money in the 14 years he worked for Elvis.. Of course he was not with Elvis full time but he made very little..
Billy, you are a personality!! Your videos are like dreams coming true!! I was 13 in 1977 and I discovered Elvis the day he died. My mama said looking at his picture in the newspaper :Oh my God, Elvis Presley died!! That was the beginning. Thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart! Andrew Charitos / Thessaloniki, Greece.
I was 7 years old in 1977, and my family were on holiday when Elvis died. My parents successfully concealed the news from me over the holiday (no TV, far less media) but of course I found when we returned home. I cried every night for weeks and weeks. Neither of my parents were Elvis fans, I don’t know how or why I came to love him so much but I have done so - all my life. The most beautiful and special man.
Thank you Spa Guy. Great information of fun facts. Got to see a Elvis impersonator today. He wasn't too bad considering. He really had a full head of black hair and sideburns like Elvis once did. He said it was totally his. He wore black pants, black and white, shoes, white shirt and a jacket like Elvis' gold jacket. He was not too bad at doing Elvis' songs and told trivia about Elvis also. It was fun.
thanks for the info, can't wait for you to post the video, one other thing I have for you,can you do a video of the eagles nest were elvis peformed when he was first starting out.
Hello again Mark, I do see where it says that Deke Dickerson has the amp but I don't think it is accurate.. I believe if he did he would have it displayed on his site for sure....
One more time... actually it says that Scotty sold the original amp to a private collector in 2008 which I was trying to help him sell in about 2000-2001.. the one that Deke has from Scotty is another one Scotty owned but he never used on any Elvis stuff...
Echo Sonic had two outer casings the original and later on Ray butts modified it and put a different housing on it.. the original housing for that amp is what Scotty Moore was trying to sell I don't think he ever wanted to sell the amplifier itself
Hello Santino I did try to sell the amp to the Prime Minister of Japan for Scotty and we couldn't make a deal.. Scotty and I felt like the amp was worth 500,000.. and I think maybe even more than that.. He did however buy 9 other items...
Spa Guy I didn't know he was trying to sell it. I thought it was like his prized possession.. Ray butts will get mad at him if he had another technician change the tubes for him.. something like that should stay in the United States and being a museum.. people will pay money just to see it
I agree Santino.. It was a lot of money and Scotty didn't really understand the value of these relics.. He traded the early Super 400 guitar he had for some studio equipment and the one on the 68 comeback really cheap.. I think being in the loop really makes a person unable to see the reality of how big of a thing they are in.. Scotty was a very nice I would say unusual man but not big headed at all about any of this.. He seemed maybe even a little annoyed by it all expect he was able to make a living with it.. I am going to try and investigate where is stuff is now that he has passed. I went out to his house a few months after he passed and shot me telling some stories he told me there but have not published them yet.. But I plan to soon..
Spa Guy I guess money was more important to him.. I believe they got the shorthand by Elvis back in the 50s. they were a big part of who Elvis was and he paid the nothing.. in the 68 special Scotty I believe scotty was paid just 300 bucks for that show.. an Elvis disrespected him by pulling the guitar out of his hand and started playing Scotty's guitar...hey do you have any idea what Scotty did with Elvis's 78 records ? back in 1968 Elvis sent him all his old 78s to make tapes of them and Scotty never returned them, I wonder what happened to those..
Good Morning Mr. Spaguy......Speaking of Hank Snow , I was friends with the President of Hank Snow's first fan club. (Not trying to be a name dropper, just sharing.) As always great video of Elvis. I never tire of your videos. Your stories are "rare stories." You do them in a respectful way and I thank you for that.
brad zybola.......Yes, I have heard of them. You know more Canadian than I do. Good story. Yes, you do have a good ear. Especially if you helped the group better themselves. Maybe you should offered to manage them. Have you ever heard of The Josey Wales Band? They were around 1970's - 90's. They hail from Ohio.
brad zybola..... Josey Wales fronted Hank Jr. I sang with them when they called their selves Plum Crazy. They changed their name when they hit the road. Lead singer was Gary Conley. They found him a few years ago passed away out back of a bar he was playing at in Nashville. 😢😢😢
