I didn't know Elvis work until I started dating a German gentleman 16 years my senior who was obsessed by Elvis. I remember spending one entire weekend watching every single documentary and info my boyfriend had on Elvis. When we finished watching everything, a sense of despair, anger, loss took over me and for months I mourned this God's messenger the world knew by the name of Elvis Presley. My heart went out for his only daughter and his fans that truly truly loved him. I didn't know about this amazing work with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra until last night when a stumbled to a documentary done by Joanna Lumley Elvis and Me done in 2015. I spent the whole night watching the concert in Hawaii, paying attention to every single song he was singing and the way the women responded to him. I am not a religious freak but a spiritual person. Elvis was surrounded by greedy, ungodly, perverts that did nothing to recognized this spirit of light. Elvis did not belong to this world and that is why he left us so soon. WE - his daughter and fans - were robbed big time. It is painful to hear his voice, see his angel face and realized that he is gone. Elvis is now part of heaven's choir and he is back in the arms of His Creator. The Creator he truly truly loved and tried to serve by giving his earthly goods and possession to whoever passed by his life, and Elvis gave himself to the world. Some how, every time I listen to Don McLean song done in memory of Vincent Van Gogh there is two parts of the song that it reminds me of Elvis Presley passing by planet earth that goes like this: Now, I understand, what you tried to say to me And how you suffered for your sanity And how you tried to set them free They would not listen, they did not know how Perhaps they'll listen now For they could not love you But still your love was true And when no hope was left in sight On that starry, starry night You took your life as lovers often do But I could have told you, ELVIS This world was never meant for one As beautiful as you Until we meet again Elvis my brother. Rest in peace.

Elvis once said in an interview that he seldom did "Kentucky Rain," in concert because it's not an easy song to sing. I do know this -- one of my friends who's a guitarist and not a big Elvis fan said both "Kentucky Rain," and "Suspicious Minds," are masterful songs by Elvis, seldom heard by pop singers. I guess that's why he's called the King. This new version with the Royal Philharmonic is stunning. My thanks to the orchestra and Abbey Road Studios for doing justice to these relics -- renewed and polished for sure.
@ruffntumble1964
@ruffntumble1964 7 лет назад
I've often wondered why so very few other pop singers have tried to make a recording of this song. Perhaps your guitarist friend is correct. Maybe no other singers thought they could come close to the Elvis version, and the new recording with the Royal Philharmonic would make that task even tougher.
@31Mike
@31Mike 7 лет назад
Some of Elvis' music has been re-made by others. Generally though, I think it's in tribute to him. But I've always felt that some artist's music should be left alone and not re-made. Elvis' music is one such example. No other singer could ever come close to improving on the perfection that Elvis attained, so they tend to leave his music to stand on its own.
@icanfartloud
@icanfartloud 7 лет назад
Ill bet Elvis was more concerned about remembering the lyrics. If you've seen the alternate Hawaii concert he makes a comment about forgetting the words to Burning Love, which he had recently recorded a year before. And as far as giving an effort in covering some of Elvis' vocal performances I go to singers.... Trisha Years old, "You've got to be really good to try and take on an Elvis vocal performance" TomJones, "Elvis made a song differs t simply by the way he sang it. He had an amazing emotional range," J.D.Summer, "The young Elvis was an amazing singer. He could hit a note, tie it up in a knot, turn around and smooth it out and then go on to another twist"....

Seven lonely days and a dozen towns ago I reached out one night and you were gone Don't know why you'd run, what you're running to or from All I know is I want to bring you home So I'm walking in the rain, thumbing for a ride On this lonely Kentucky back road I've loved you much too long, my love's too strong To let you go, never knowing what went wrong Kentucky rain keeps pouring down And up ahead's another town that I'll go walking through With the rain in my shoes Searching for you In the cold Kentucky rain In the cold Kentucky rain 🎵🎶🎵🎶 Showed your photograph to some old gray-bearded men Sitting on a bench outside a general store They said, "Yes, she's been here" But their memory wasn't clear Was it yesterday? No, wait, the day before Finally got a ride with a preacher man who asked "Where you bound on such a cold dark afternoon?" As we drove on through the rain, as he listened, I explained And he left me with a prayer that I'd find you Kentucky rain keeps pouring down And up ahead's another town that I'll go walking through With the rain in my shoes Searching for you In the cold Kentucky rain

REALLY? Some are upset? I can't understand why so many are offended about updates as I am sure even Elvis would have wanted them. If they watch and listen Elvis HIMSELF changed or permitted his sound to change during the years to stay relevant. Thus, we categorize his different sound eras. For example, Elvis was Executive Producer on Moody Blue and had some charge of what was released and that doesn't sound anything like the American Studio sessions of 1969 at which time these vocals were originally produced. As a matter of fact if I remember correctly, Elvis while on stage would say, This is one of the first songs I that I ever recorded. We had a rythm guitar and a steel base and it went like this regarding "That's alright mama." BUT the whole show didn't have just that minimalist sound did it? Should we criticize the fact that he didn't always wear the same Gold Lam'e suit every performance too? Elvis REQUESTED fresh and trend setting designs for the Vegas years etc. This really points to the fact that many think they know Elvis better than Elvis knew himself. I feel sad for those people. Regarding the Original vocal recordings. Ronnie Milsap was asked about working with Elvis. "I was in a studio in 1969, and Elvis brought his producer to Memphis to record at American Studios. I played on [his] record Kentucky Rain. Elvis always said, “More thunder on the piano, Milsap.” He was fun to be around." They say that Memphis Mafia member Marty Lacker was instrumental for the American Studios recording sessions that include Kentucky Rain and In The Ghetto. Marty Lacker remembered, The American group came close to being Elvis ’s backup band onstage, with Chips Moman handling the sound as Felton Jarvis would do later, although Chips dismissed the invitation. “There was some talk about it, but there was just some talk floatin’ around,” he said indifferently. According to Marty Lacker, it was more than that. Elvis was so impressed with Chips and the group that he had been quite serious about hiring them for the Las Vegas comeback shows he was planning.“Elvis asked Chips about backing him in Vegas as we were standing in the control room. To my surprise, Chips at that moment said yes. However, on second thought later, he changed his mind because Colonel Parker, on purpose, offered low money and Chips and the musicians were not going to give up more money than they could make doing sessions. Parker didn’t want them to back Elvis because he was still pissed that he lost control of Elvis during the American sessions and he didn’t want Chips influencing Elvis any further.”
@123Rockchild
@123Rockchild 4 года назад
What do you mean that Marty Lacker was instrumental for the American Studios recording sessions? Lacker developed a roaring drug addiction throughout his years with Elvis.

Elvis wanted to sing to a full Orchestra so well done to the royal Orchestra and since i'm British i'm proud of our Orchestra go with the times you think to much of the past live one day at a time . Most of the music now a days is rubbish , there are lack of emotion and feeling in some people s music now a days. 50s 60s and 77 where the best music going then, when Elvis past away the music as gone down hill.

[Verse 1] Seven lonely days and a dozen towns ago I reached out one night and you were gone Don't know why you'd run, what you're running to or from All I know is I want to bring you home [Verse 2] So, I'm walking in the rain, thumbing for a ride On this lonely Kentucky backroad I've loved you much too long, my love's too strong To let you go, never knowing what went wrong [Chorus] Kentucky rain keeps pouring down And up ahead is another town that I'll go walking through With the rain in my shoes (Rain in my shoes) Searching for you in the cold Kentucky rain In the cold Kentucky rain [Verse 3] Showed your photograph to some old gray-bearded men Sitting on a bench outside a general store They said, "Yes, she's been here," but their memory wasn't clear "Was it yesterday? No, wait, the day before" [Verse 4] I finally got a ride with a preacher man who asked "Where you bound on such a cold, dark afternoon?" As we drove on thru the rain, as he listened, I explained [Chorus] Kentucky rain keeps pouring down And up ahead is another town that I'll go walking through With the rain in my shoes (Rain in my shoes) Searching for you in the cold Kentucky rain [Outro] In the cold Kentucky rain In the cold Kentucky rain In the cold Kentucky rain The cold Kentucky rain In the cold Kentucky rain In the cold Kentucky rain

This period was to me, his pinnacle of a more pure, clear style of singing. Great resonance, vibrato, emotion. I'm Just A Roustabout, Kentucky Rain, And Marie's The Name of his latest Flame, et al. He was at his best.

KENTUCKY RAIN (Anglais et Français) By Eddie Rabbit - Dick Heard Seven lonely days and a dozen towns ago Ça fait sept solitaires jours et une douzaine de villes I reached out one night and you were gone Que je suis sortie une nuit et tu étais partie, Don't know why you'd run, what you're running to or from Sans que je sache pourquoi tu t’étais enfuie, ni vers quoi. All I know is I want to bring you home Tout que je sais c’est que je veux te ramener à la maison. So I'm walking in the rain, thumbing for a ride Aussi je marche sous la pluie, faisant du stop pour une course On this lonely Kentucky backroad Sur cette arrière route solitaire du Kentucky. I've loved you much too long; my love's too strong Je t’ai aimé trop longtemps, mon amour est trop fort, To let you go, never knowing what went wrong. Pour te laisser en allez, ne sachant absolument pas ce qui a tourné mal. Kentucky rain keeps pouring down, La pluie torrentiel du Kentucky continue à tomber fort, And up ahead's another town that I'll go walking through, Et, droit devant, une autre ville que je vais traverser, With the rain in my shoes, searching for you Avec la pluie dans mes chaussures, cherchant après toi, In the cold Kentucky rain, in the cold Kentucky rain. Dans la pluie froide du Kentucky, dans la pluie froide du Kentucky. Showed your photograph to some old gray bearded men J’ai montré ta photo à de vieux hommes à la barbe grise, Sitting on a bench outside a general store Assis sur un banc à l'extérieur d'un magasin général, They said "Yes, she's been here" Ils ont dit "oui, elle a été ici" But their memory wasn't clear. Mais leur mémoire n'était pas claire. Was it yesterday? No, wait the day before. “Était-ce hier ? Non, attendez… le jour d’auparavant”. Finally got a ride, with a preacher man who asked, J’ai finalement obtenu de monter auprès d’un pasteur qui a demandé : "Where you bound on such a cold, dark afternoon?" "Où bondissez-vous par un tel après-midi froid et sombre ?" As we drove on through the rain, as he listened I explained Pendant que nous roulions à travers la pluie, come il m’écoutait je lui ai expliquais. And he left me with a prayer that I'd find you. Et il m'a quitté avec une prière afin que je te trouve. Kentucky rain keeps pouring down, La pluie du Kentucky continue à tomber fort, And up ahead's another town that I'll go walking through, Et, droit devant, une autre ville que je vais traverser, With the rain in my shoes, searching for you Avec la pluie dans mes chaussures, cherchant après toi, In the cold Kentucky rain, in the cold Kentucky rain. Dans la pluie froide du Kentucky, dans la pluie froide du Kentucky. In the cold Kentucky rain, (6 fois) Dans la pluie froide du Kentucky,

Nothing compares to Elvis pre 1965 . His voice was at its best during that era . And as he once said in the early 60s , (when strings and orchestra was becoming in vogue) , he didn't need them as long as he had the Jordanaires . However , I do love the R.P.H. on the original (1956) Love Me Tender .

I meant R.P.O. (Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) not R.P.H.

He was good post 1967 but in a 1969 interview (at the International Hilton) Elvis even made reference to not having the range he had in the early 1960s . But as you said , always amazing .

The Jordanaires sucked, they ruined many of his records especially in the 50's. He should have never gotten involved with them and included a horn section in his records like Little Richard and James Brown. The Jordanaires were annoying and made his songs sound like children's song, lame and watered down and Elvis was the exact opposite of that. It was a bad mix, the most revolutionary artist ever with the lamest vocal group behind him.

Luckily you are in the extreme minority Little Jimmy Tone Deaf ! The Jordanaires were on around 40,000 recordings from 1956 to 1970 . It is you who is lame Scumbag !

cedric le bg I agree. Although his voice sounds amazing here, I like the original better for exactly that reason. It always makes me feel sad, you could feel the rain and the thunder... The rain in my shoes, searching for you.. This one sounds more slick, but less soul.

It WAS one of his best until this dipshit edited the song, and put that stupid philharmonic crap in it. Elvis songs don't need ANYTHING added to them.
