Jose Hill urmanov did not skate a clean program in 94... he bobbled out of a triple flip, Elvis popped a 3 axel but he still technically landed a single axel, switch things up and changed his quad into a 3 axel 3 toe loop. Elvis was clean not Urmanov get your facts right
Fun fact: Randy Edelman, the composer of the Dragon Heart score, also composed Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, which of course was Stojko's other hugely notable program from the 90's.
Elvis I just wanted to let you know that god loves you. You don't need a medal to determine your worth or value. A medal is just that, a piece of medal that will one day loose its shine. Your value and worth come from what god says about you. I'm going to be brave and ask you to do me a favor? Will you come to church with me? I know your up in Canada, but you can attend my church online, just go to vox church.org. he loves you Elvis, I just felt led to tell you that and to tell you, that he has a purpose plan and calling on your life, I would like to encourage you, to get a Bible and start reading it. Hey if you have any questions about what I'm saying feel free to contact me.
It always bothered me that critics would complain about his aesthetics and artistry, as if a classic/ballet style and a long lean body was the only thing aesthetically pleasing EVER in skating. Even a giraffe looks like a heap when it falls. Any time I hear Swan Lake, I yawn. I just can't help but like this guy, even if he isn't my favourite skater. I just find myself rooting for him. Because #1, mulletude. And #2, the nice scar in his eyebrow. Finally #3, with his martial arts background, he could likely legit kick the asses of almost all of his competitors.
Go out there and be the hunter Elvis, with my disability alot of people told me that I would never be able to do anything. Elvis I'm now going to college and am finishing up my fifth semester with my 4th A. I'm a quarter way finished. Hey with god all things Elvis, all things are possible. Believe..I'm so proud of you. Thank you for pulling me through 9 years of my horseback riding, for helping me to achieve passing two of my basic entry level dressage tests. Two years later I'm trying to make a comeback, after stepping away. The barn is looking for a yet another coach, I'm praying hoping and praying for a miracle.
What's astounding to me is the complete lack of excitement or enthusiasm towards Elvis' program technically by either commentator -- Button or Boitano. For the time, Elvis' technical content was unbelievable. Groundbreaking and never had been seen before. Yet Boitano and Button reacted as if he had done something seen everyday. I assure you had Eldredge done this, both of them would have been screaming with excitement. The national bias of these commentators was disappointing to say the least.
It wasn't just Nationalism. Nobody liked Elvis since he had a shitty personality and is a shitty human being, had horrible sportsmanship, and on top of that was often overscored and won many gift titles and medals in his career. He did deserve the win here, well sort of since Eldredge should have been 1st in the short and not Urmanov, which would have given him the win via his 2nd place in the long. However many of his other medals and titles he did not deserve, but got through generous marking. Add to that his toxic and horrible personality and it is not a surprise commentators are restrained even for a great skate by him. And
I always detested Dick Button’s commentary. He was mean. Much prefer Scott Hamilton or Kurt Browning. They always focused on what was good about the athlete’s performances
It's funny how his style of skating was so frowned upon back then, and if you watch skating nowadays this is the skating they PREFER and being an artist is put on the back burner.
Back in the day when people knew who figure skating celebrities were, and when people cared about figure skating. Now....no one knows anyone, and no one cares. Boring. Boring. Boring. But at least we have these you tube videos to remind us of figure skating when it was an exciting sport and it filled arenas to the rafters.
Ever heard of Yuzuru Hanyu ? 2 times back to back olympic champion, Very probably the most popular figure skater ever ? Maybe not in America, but certainly worldwide, even people from tropical countries without ice rinks are googling him like crazy ? Wherever he shows up the arenas are sold out, in his home Japan people cannot get the tickets the normal way only trough the lottery ? Living, breathing, still competing legend ? Among his biggest fanboys are Kurt Browning, Plushenko, Yagudin, even Tarasova? I am not trying to be mean, I really urge you to check him out if you haven´t already...perhaps his WR breaking Hope and Legacy at the WC 2017, or Seimei from GPF 2015 , Origin from Skate Canada 2019 or Chopin ballade from 4CC 2020 a short program that is sheer perfection. Have a great time with the FS legends, whether the old ones or the new :-)
@@e2theeyepie i´m sorry but no. Nathan has no star power, the shows he participated in were cancelled because nobody was buying the tickets ,in his own country, at home ice. The only ones who care about Nathan are US commentators who are very well compensated for hyping him up and carefully orchestrating the RIVALRY to drum up the interest for the upcoming OG in Beijing, because the networks paid very large sum of money for broadcasting rights. Outside of US there is very little interest for Nathan and his abnormally inflated scores.
Agreed his artisty sucks but I can see them thinking he had to and deserved to win with such out of this world technical content for the time, so made sure his artistc marks weren't too low because of that.
Technical scores were fair I guess since he did the quad-triple and didn't mess up other jumps like the Grand Prix final where he was ridiculously overmarked. Artistic scores are disgracefully high though. Almost all 5.8s and a 5.9, fuck no. Should have been nothing higher than a 5.6, and that is generous since the program is nothing but posing and crossovers.
His artistry is different, and being different is awesome..he skates like a real man and I love that, and that’s what makes him #1...I don’t think you appreciate the sport..
He was always overscored artistically. In this case I can atleast understand it though as the technical content of this particular skate was so groundbreaking he almost had to win so you had to inflate the artistic marks vs what he deserved to make sure that didnt happen.
