El embalse de El Atazar es el mayor de la Comunidad de Madrid: con una capacidad de 425,3 hm³, representa el 46% del volumen embalsado de la región. Fue construido en 1972, siendo una de las obras más importantes de la dictadura de Francisco Franco. Es el quinto embalse en el sentido de la corriente que se encuentra el río Lozoya a su paso y pertenece a la red del Canal de Isabel II.
El embalse de San Juan se encuentra situado en los términos municipales de San Martín de Valdeiglesias , El Tiemblo , Cebreros y Pelayos de la Presa, en el extremo suroccidental de la Comunidad de Madrid y suroriental de Avila (España). Está formado por el río Alberche, afluente por la derecha del Tajo. A este pantano también contribuye el Cofio, uno de los principales tributarios del Alberche.El embalse fue construido en el año 1955 y tiene una capacidad total de almacenaje de 138 hm³.
El embalse de Valmayor está situado al noroeste de la Comunidad de Madrid, en España. Pertenece a la cuenca del Guadarrama, si bien está construido sobre el principal afluente de este río, el Aulencia. Es el tercero de la provincia en cuanto a cantidad de agua almacenada (una capacidad de 124,4 hm³), después del embalse de El Atazar (425,3 hm³), en la cuenca del Lozoya. Es gestionado por el Canal de Isabel II.
El embalse de Santillana, también conocido como embalse de Manzanares el Real, está situado en el noroeste de la Comunidad de Madrid (España), en los términos municipales de Manzanares el Real y Soto del Real, junto a la Sierra de Guadarrama. Tiene una superficie de 1.052 ha (como máximo), y una distancia entre orillas opuestas de 30 km, lo que ofrece una capacidad total de 91 hm³. Data de 1907, cuando se construyó la presa vieja, y en 1969 se terminó la construcción de la presa nueva, que era cinco metros más alta y se duplicó la capacidad de almacenamiento del embalse.
El embalse de Riosequillo está situado en el curso medio del río Lozoya, en la Sierra de Guadarrama, Comunidad de Madrid. Fue inaugurado en 1958 y es el segundo embalse que retiene el río a lo largo de su curso, aunque fue cabecera hasta 1967, fecha en que fue inaugurado el embalse de Pinilla. Forma parte de la red de embalses del Canal de Isabel II, compañía que suministra el agua potable a la capital de España y a buena parte de la Comunidad de Madrid.
