Shows how to Rust on a ESP32.
ESP32 requires a rust fork at the moment because the Xtensa architecture does not build out of the box with LLVM. This video shows how to use the tools provided by espressif to run rust on a ESP32 in a STD environment.
The STD environment usage is unusual for embedded and is possible because ESP32 devices have high speed and ram compared to most other microcontrollers.
Some links to repositories used:
- github.com/esp... is the official example repository and provides instructions on running a podman/docker vm to compile things. It has esp-idf pre-installed and rust pre-configured. Note however that the installed version of things may not match to 'latest' so I would recommend this image only for a quick start to validate hardware connections
- github.com/esp... describes how to install the esp32 fork for rust on your own system
- github.com/esp... is a template you can use if you want to start with a minimal/starter rust app for esp32.
