Embellishing an Acrylic Pour - My First Try!

This was my first time trying a flip cup and it sucked! So I guess it's time for me to learn what embellishing acrylic pours is all about.
The disaster happened all because I had some left over paint from scrapping my table from previous pours. My base coat was over processed and way to thin for this technique. Hind sight is always 20/20 isn't it! Because the base coat was so thin and I know how important paint consistency is when doing any type of acrylic pouring so I made all the other paints the same. It was just a downward spiral from there.
Many times in the past when I pour something I don't like I tend to scrap the canvas and start over (hence the beginning of my problem with my base coat). So this time I thought lets just let dry, see what happens.
Well when it dried I had crevice's running through the pour that had an ugly gray color showing through. So now what?
I would need to sand it down and gesso the canvas in order to reuse it ..... nah, too much work! So instead I decided to embellish it. Why not? At this point I had nothing to lose! Let's see what embellishing an acrylic pour looks like first hand.
Some key takeaways:
1) Be cautious when using old paint from previous pours
2) Take the time to think about the technique and adjust the paint consistency accordingly
3) You can over stretch a poured paint
4) Don't be afraid to embellish your acrylic pours and make it your own (who knows you might learn a few new skills to add to your artsy tool kit!)
As always, my paints are all Amsterdam Acrylics Standard Series and the colors I used:
Base Coat - left over paint from previous pours
Pouring Colors -
Amsterdam - Turquoise Blue amzn.to/3fSGgPK
Amsterdam - Primary Yellow amzn.to/3hvv1NS
Amsterdam - Burnt Sienna amzn.to/3fOTj4M
Amsterdam - Dark gold amzn.to/3UMeXFP
Amsterdam - Burnt Umber amzn.to/3TpngGe
Embellishing Colors - same as above except I added pearl white to the final corner where the stencil is and blended that with the burnt umber
Canvas 50 x 50 cm deep edge gallery wrapped
Silicone Cups amzn.to/3FNhmfh

Thanks Missy, I'm so excited that you're here! Sometimes I don't feel qualified to share what I'm learning, I think they call it imposters syndrome. Anyway welcome to the channel, lets just paint and have a few laughs along the way!

I think it is a great save. It looks much, much better than the Home Goods type of art. Plus, you really are funny.

Thanks! Before I embellished it I ran around my house looking at all of the abstract art I own, examining them all, looking for techniques to try. I figured I had nothing to lose at this point! It's still hanging in the same spot in my living room. I look at it all the time tempted to keep working on it to see how far I can take it and what I can learn. 🧡 who knows maybe one day it will reappear in a future video with more embellishments!

I have found that turning a failed filled cup into a cosmic scene works well. Add some planets and stars, then it continues to be original and most of the time pretty cool. Look ar the James Webb telescope photos for inspiration
