This was my first time trying a flip cup and it sucked! So I guess it's time for me to learn what embellishing acrylic pours is all about.
The disaster happened all because I had some left over paint from scrapping my table from previous pours. My base coat was over processed and way to thin for this technique. Hind sight is always 20/20 isn't it! Because the base coat was so thin and I know how important paint consistency is when doing any type of acrylic pouring so I made all the other paints the same. It was just a downward spiral from there.
Many times in the past when I pour something I don't like I tend to scrap the canvas and start over (hence the beginning of my problem with my base coat). So this time I thought lets just let dry, see what happens.
Well when it dried I had crevice's running through the pour that had an ugly gray color showing through. So now what?
I would need to sand it down and gesso the canvas in order to reuse it ..... nah, too much work! So instead I decided to embellish it. Why not? At this point I had nothing to lose! Let's see what embellishing an acrylic pour looks like first hand.
Some key takeaways:
1) Be cautious when using old paint from previous pours
2) Take the time to think about the technique and adjust the paint consistency accordingly
3) You can over stretch a poured paint
4) Don't be afraid to embellish your acrylic pours and make it your own (who knows you might learn a few new skills to add to your artsy tool kit!)
As always, my paints are all Amsterdam Acrylics Standard Series and the colors I used:
