emblems, numbers and lettering on a boat: When removed, sometimes leaves a ghosted image.. fix it.

Just removed the hull numbers and they left behind not only a ghost outline but the color and topographical elevation were different than the areas that weren't covered for 20 years..
Time to get grumpy on some gelcoat!
I have many more (300+)videos; before and after boat detailing videos including boat waxing, boat buffing...

I use a DeWalt DWP849X
If I'm going for perfection in gelcoat, I don't use a ceramic (unless a very new boat) I prefer the ease, cost and reliability of Fire Glaze by RMP. Make sure you get all the oxidation out of the gelcoat, get a great finish, clean and strip the surface and then apply Fire Glaze.

There's a "marine" version but it has the same main ingredient as Fire Glaze, just a different lubricant/carrier solution made to be environment friendly. I find it dries rather fast and as I'm in a hot climate, I use Fire Glaze instead of Restructure Marine Polish. I like their Mirasol spray for all the interior furnishings as well.

Really great result and great match on all the lettering. Keep it boring bro I love it. I saw another Cobalt the other day at the marina with the bigger format badges and thought of you lolz. The owner is lucky to have such a shiny Cobalt… usually they just look like azz. I only use a DA for wax at home. In my shop wax is always applied by hand. I seem to loose a lot of wax into my pad though, guess I don’t have my mojo just right for DA wax yet.

My pads soak up a bunch of wax too but as I'm doing boat, after boat, after boat, I just keep one going until it doesn't work well anymore. I'll certainly be boring, I don't intend to change any time soon. Thanks for watching and yes, Cobalt's have a history of fading out and the owners tend to not get them detailed UNTIL they fade out (way too late in my opinion) Cheers! Lee

@@Local_Boydidgood Trading Places! Yes, we are old school. I was going for "Looking good, Billy Ray" as it is often said around our house just like the movie.

Nice man!! I commented on a week ago on a different video Lee, about some presta super cut I got after I tried Maguires 67, you recommended 3M heavy cut, well I got some ordered , the presta did okay, but I still have the top of boat to do and the very back to do, around the transom, so when I get back from Florida next week it should have been dropped off by amazon, and we are gonna rock on with that, 🤘 thanks for the videos!!!

It's my absolute pleasure. I recall the message, glad you ordered the Heavy Cut, you'll like it. It's like #67 on steroids. Odd because 3M owns Meguiar's.. 😜

@@Local_Boydidgood that is wild, I mean the 67 was like hand lotion compared to the presta, so the 3M Super duty, and 3M Heavy should be awesome!! I also got the quick 3M disconnect and a 3M double sided roughing wool pad!!

Hopefully it all works out and I don't come off as a liar. Make sure the pad spind smoothly, very little wobble. If not, return it and get another one.

How often do you clean your wool pad with the spur or washing it during a job
@Local_Boydidgood
@Local_Boydidgood 2 года назад
I never wash them but if you watch a longer vid of mine you'll see exactly, I usually leave the cleanings in there. On a top of a ski boat, perhaps once per side, a hull, twice a side? Depends on the boat really. I'm not trying to be funny about it. It's like asking how many times do you chew before swallowing, depends on the food.

Really? You never wash them. Interesting. So when the pad starts making dust, that means its time to clean/spur? Thanks a lot for making these video's. I just landed a job to do a 52fter heavly oxidized cruiser. First time doing a boat this size i was super nervous. But your 3m combo has me looking like a pro. SUPER DUTY IS THE TRUTH!!!!!!! Thanks dude. Your rock. Oh BTW I just started my business a month n a half ago.

I Spur when the pad gets too gummed up with Compound. I try to use the "right" amount of compound to avoid this but keeping a a fluffy pad is important. When it gets too flat or compressed, time to Spur. On big boats, break them into sections and just keep the process going. You'll be fine. Good luck and thanks!
