Tips for you: You don't need to keep using that sticky white powder. The eye shadow will stick to the Versa Mark. When you run out of Versa Mark or you pad gets dry, grab a bottle of vegetable glycerin. That's all Versa Mark is. And don't throw away the coffee filter. Save them for another project.
Carol Frazer Wow, is Versamark only vegetable glycerin? I’m blown away thinking how many I have thrown away for all the decades I have been stamping! I have a huge can of vegetable glycerin so I’ll definitely use that from now on. Thank you!😘
If you do not use the heat and stick powder and put the eye-shadow with a brush directly on the Versamark, doesn't it smear? I think it is too soft, not hard enough to be "touched" with a brush???? Have you tried it with a brush? Would really appreciate, if you answered. Thanks a lot for telling us, what Versamark really is...I was always wondering and not finding the answer.
Only problem with using glycerin instead of VersaMark is your stamped images will not be crisp(if stamping & embossing). Yes I’ve tried it. Also if you don’t use the ranger heat & stick powder then your eyeshadow or glitter or whatever you want to stick down will rub off once VersaMark dries unless you use a fixative or glue or tape. Heat & Stick is embossing powder that stays sticky for few seconds so you can add to it. Also you don’t even need VersaMark or glycerin to hold down your embossing powder(which is ground plastic) you can use water or even gel pens if they stay wet long enough to grab embossing powder. Before (craft)heat guns we used toaster ovens to melt embossing powder to.
SueHuskins Thank you the information. Oh, yes, I remember putting my cards through a lot to melt that embossing powder. The toaster oven moved down to my craft room, and the miracle the first time you saw the grey powder turn into silver!! I couldn’t believe my eyes! Just by chance I came across this lady demonstrating embossing powder at a Christmas fair way back in 1980’s, who knew that would completely change my life!? I still have that bottle of embossing powder. I have always loved embossing powder, while all the others stopped using it and turned to colored dye ink, I stayed with it. Nothing can mimic embossing powder.
Live Laugh Love ->you’re welcome and yes! I got a set of 30 bright, bright colors in the early 80’s at a craft fair also and I still have some of them. They still work too. I tested them when someone said they have a shelf life, only 1 of the ones I still had wouldn’t work, so not sure about a shelf life or just a bad one. Amazing what you do for your craft/fun, I burnt a few cards in the toaster learning, but it was fun.
Brilliant, I’m a pensioner and cannot afford all lovely colors of embossing powder. Now I can ask friends to give me their eye shadows they don’t want...
I frequently visit the $ store next to hubbys work and right before they get truck in the morning when they're dragging out the boxes of emptys and getting ready to get started I will have gone thru the make up and craft and school supply (and toy) aisles and gathered all the broken, open and otherwise useless items to them such as glitter, make up, anything crayola or paper related or containers ect and i make a deal with the manager.. I tell her I have a kid in grade school which is true and that I would be interested in buying all the broken stuff that they can't even sell on clearance and since they're just going to throw it away you should make me a really good deal then I'll buy it and I will donate it to some of the kids at one of the local schools if she makes it a sweet enough to you and depending on the home he usually will say tell you what how about we stop counting at eight bucks if it even gets that far and call it a day and so we go through it one at a time and if I'm willing to pay set amount for set item great and she never charges me more than eight bucks and I go home and I sorry all the glitters and eyeshadows into all the little free Avon containers that I get from a friend who sells them or find a stamping up wrap find an Avon rep find somebody who does the old school door to door sales for makeups and crafts or oddly enough I had a dog food scientist who donated a ton of containers to me uniform & clear and perfect. Thats $8 a month!
O.M.G how can anybody give this a thumbs down Tarryn I stopped embossing because I couldn't find the colors or if I did they were too expensive here in the u.k. So thank you so much for this video i have so many eyeshadows with crazy colors i have been going crazy embossing again lol thank you so much again Xx
This is a great video! Thank you, I just found your channel. I see nothing unsafe in her video and she even says “be safe”. If a parent is going to buy a child a high temp heat gun then that child is probably exposed to a lot of other unsafe items as well(including adult content RU-vid videos). It is a parents responsibility to read instructions and supervise their children, that goes without saying. I have been embossing since the early 80’s, starting with a toaster oven and what she did is fine. The only thing that could be unsafe is if the eye shadow had asbestos in it and that would be for another channel. The # of thumbs down is not bad compared to the # of views. It was said yesterday on a news channel that a lot of viewers don’t even understand the thumbs up or down concept and also a lot of folks accidentally touch the thumbs down on their phone when handling. Sorry Alina McPheqrson but you are barking up the wrong tree!!
Alina McPherson Yep, it’s 2019 and everyone is complaining about something. I do have a heat gun and I do have a welder and I do have a oxy/acetylene torch and I have a lot more HOT tools and am very well versed in all!! To call people an idiot is showing your true colors. You just want to complain about everything. Go to your safe space!! I’m done
"The best thing is there are so many colour options"... you're not wrong, but the really best thing is this truly inspired reuse of something that would otherwise just go in the bin. So beautiful! Thank you!
I love real people. Some people are do organized it drives me crazy. When the sequins fell off, I not only chuckled but thought that is so me! So real. Love the ideas and loved your video. Looking forward to more. Thank you.
I made a video on this sort of thing ages ago - you can add small amounts of powder to your embossing powder in the jars too if you want. Also the face illuminating powders have mica in them which colour shifts, so look out for those. Some shadows are actually better than the purpose bought pigments! You can also use them straight over versamark for a shimmery effect, without heat embossing. Just make sure it is dry before you brush excess powder away.
I have some Perfect Pearls that I haven't used in ages. I think I will pull them out using the sticky powder which I also have and haven't used in ages. Thanks for the inspiration to use up "old" supplies too.
If you use versamark on top of the eyeshadow and clear embossing powder, you get a very different look. I have used eyeshadow for decades, I have a lot of colors but I had more eyeshadows so it was great to turn to them when I needed a special color. They are the same. Glittery eyeshadow is only pressed mica powder... you do not need sticky powder, versamark does the trick alone. Thinking about all the kids who died while extracting mica from the ground so we could buy eyeshadow and art supplies it’s at least good to use old eyeshadow for our cards instead of throwing it away.
I love your idea of the eye shadows.I was about to throw out my old eye shadows and just came across your video. Marvelous. I'm going to try it. Love it!
NEW SUB!!! I am so glad to seeing you being resourceful! I see BAGS of old eyeshadow when thrifting and no one should be buying it to use, BUT it would be cool to use it for art!
I can't believe 200 people didn't like this idea. I have so much eyeshadow in my stash and it would awesome to use it this way. I don't wear makup anymore. Great job
@6:26 Also, you might try using a light water spritzer to mist over it. It's what I hear ppl say to use when setting pigment powders that aren't heat set. I haven't tried it yet but I'm going to. I guess it helps keep it from smearing. Most makeups are water resistant anymore so that makes a certain kind of sense
Omg I love it. I have some expired Mac eyeshadows that I have as displays on my vanity. They are too pretty to throw away and too old to use. I am so glad that I found this video.
genius. very inexpensive. great for small budgets like mine. I love love the colors. I will be repeating this technique for sure. Great for masculine cards!!!
I guess you could spray some hair spray over the finished coloring to encase the colors from smearing on your card?🤔 I’ve always kept my old eye shadows for things like this🤗 Loved your video Tarryn and you have the prettiest hands😊. Thank you ❤️☺️
I did try that once but I found once it dried the eyeshadow wiped off. It may have been the eyeshadow or type of paper I used but I did not have any luck with that technique. Perhaps I should give it another try.
Wow. What a great idea. I would never have thought of doing this. I have a few embossing powders but lots of old shimmery eyeshadows. Will definitely be trying this soon. Subscribing for more wonderful hints and tips.
Wow so Nice and you explained it so calmly. I have subscribed to you're channel. Hope to see a lot of nice crafty tutorials. Lovely greetings Ingrid from the Netherlands.
I just found your youtube which is very good. I watched Tim Holtz using the powered glue and he stated not to flick off the extra glue because you need it to really glue well... Just an FYI
Thank you for muting the video while you use your heat gun... ... So many people run the loud noise of the heat gun and then TRY to talk over the loud noise... !!!
I’ve seen your video in my recommended videos for a while and I finally clicked on it and wow! I really enjoyed it. New sub here! Ty for the frugal tips!
