i probably should have planned my travel better. but i also enjoy the chaos that comes from traveling without concrete plans?? so here we are. this week, i was in koh phangan, thailand where i stayed in 4 different hotels: a jungle cabin with lots of scary creatures, a 5 star luxury resort, an overpriced hostel with an ant problem, & a beach bungalow that made for great IG pics. this week was extremely stressful but also a super fun adventure for me. Learning to laugh through the chaos that is life is one of my fav lessons to learn over & over again, especially when solo travelling.

I feel like all of your feelings were valid, as a black woman myself it is very hard to find our people when we travel, I will admit. And I think the ants were there for a reason but I am happy you tried to challenge yourself. You seem to be comfortable alone though and things will get better. I'm proud of you for exploring! You have standards & that is not a bad thing. & by having those standards, you didn’t settle for the first option, you made the move to create a new option & that led you to a new option that turned out way better. To some it’s “being picky”. To me, it’s called having standards & clearly it worked to your favor. Do not feel bad about being “picky” on your rooms, I’d probably feel the same way..

Nah it was all completely understandable, I couldn’t go on a trip and settle for bugs in my hotel rooom😂. Also the loneliness will pass if you give it time, you’ll reach this sort of zen feeling where you’re content with your own company.

This was literally me and my bf when we went to Bali, we tried the whole cheap hostel like hotels and realised it wasn’t for us !!!!! we stayed for one night and couldn’t do it the bugs and mould… so we just booked a 5 star hotel instead and LOVED IT !!! Don’t feel ashamed to admit you love the finer things in life, it’s just more comfortable!! I felt more at peace knowing it was clean and bug free😭

In thr tropical countries in Asia at this time of year ants and lizards are very common. They scare the shit out of me but you really can't do anything about it because this is the season when they come out of hibernation in the open. No matter how luxurious place you live in, these tiny creatures will find their way to there. Just wanted to let you know. Tip - Turn on the room's AC up to the point that the room is damn chilled. Lizards hate cold. They won't come even near your room. And even if they already are there, then when your room gets chilled, they will hide somewhere and not come out because of the cold temperatures. I live in India and lizards are very common in this summer season. So, I do this and lizards just stay the heck outa my room. Loved the video BTW.

I've been to so many places solo, always great. Then I went to Thailand alone last year amid a romantically turbulent time in my life, and I just felt alone and disconnected, and I cut my trip short and went elsewhere where I found happiness and balance. My advice would be to go to Europe, enroll in a course, an activity, that will give you an anchor in the place and meet people.

Bugs in Southeast Asia are no joke at some places. You weren't being dramatic at all as someone who had an ant problem in my house last year which nearly drove me insane. All part of the travel experience and finding out what you will and will not put up with. But those beaches are incredible.

I've been here! Physically/emotionally/mentally. Wanting an adventure/solo time/exotic landscape and at the sameee time...dealing with all that comes with it. Judging tf out of myself for not being able to deal with low quality accommodations bugs/creatures/subpar energy at hostels..so real! and also it's for sure an experience worth experiencing. Like you said, at least we have tried these things, and we know how much our comfort is worth. Tbh a lot of young white males popularized travel and solo travel and especially SE Asia travel, and their needs are so very different than ours and thats ok. while I am an avid believer that these things are also for us, I'ma also be real in stating the ways that I need comfort, security and cleanliness on these journeys. Props to you for not forcing yourself to stay longer than you were comfortable in a space and having the means to make options that feel more aligned with your needs. And for sharing this with us and being very real about it all!

I spent all of covid on kpg and pai. If you find your way back there again id recommend renting a bungalow in the yoga studios around hin kong or Sri Thanu..youll be plugged in to the community in no time. one yoga is one example, and sometimes you'll see for rent signs in the main roads down there..weekly or monthly ok. a scooter or bicycle min is kind of necessary. Baan tai where youre staying now is kind of a drunk area- full of frat boy types. and It looked like you were on the east coast in the begging- which is definitely the most beautiful part but super isolated and family orientated-so try not to judge the whole island by those areas- .Koh Phangan has something for everyone :) its my favorite.

I love your vlogs! On the same type of journey currently. Not sure if you’ve heard of the Couchsurfing app? I’ve met all my favorite people through there during my solo travels. They have a hangouts and events feature. I don’t use it to couchsurf, only to meet with other travelers who have positive reviews and profiles. I adore solo travel too but the loneliness can hit randomly and very hard sometimes. That app is a social, emotional, and mental lifesaver for me. Keeps me sane while exploring and still gives me my freedom. Happy travels 🔥🧡

Girl I learned that I need comfort too when traveling and A freaking C.. OKAY!! AC is a must especially traveling during summer time to an island! Girllll! Solo traveling is at times realllly hard, I totally feel you... & at the same time, so liberating... You get totally out of your comfort zone (Congrats on that!!!) ... this has made me so much more humble in life, so much more grateful for what I have, and so much more relaxed with life really (I've noticed that I really drown myself in a glass of water because of my conditioning)... I've met some of my best friends whilst traveling. I am definitely a princess but have such a hippie/gypsy heart so I relate with wanting to have the whole jungle, spiritual experience but I also like to sleep in a comfortable bed, have AC and be pampered. I've travelled for a decade now and have done all of the hostel and budget friendly accommodations... I'd say, if you can, stay in the nice hotels and go meet people in events (look for wellness events - theres a bunch in thailand - aka: ecstatic dance, cacao ceremony, etc.), go drink a beer at the local hostels (you'll bump into people here), book a tour, look for the cool top rated/good atmosphere restaurants or bars - have a nice meal here, also look for the best places to watch the sunset from... this is once in a lifetime experience

No, I don’t play when it comes to my accommodations. I research hotels/resorts….read reviews….the entire thing because being comfortable while traveling is important. It doesn’t have to be 5 star…..but it does have to be clean and bug/animal free with air conditioning and heating. A good nights sleep is a necessity for having a great day….who can sleep sweating buckets and worried about creatures? I applaud you. I like sharing experiences so I don’t think I would enjoy solo travel.

I am looking to travel and been watching a lot of you beautiful girlies travel videos and it’s a few things I’ve learned from y’all. 1) Trip with intention and have an itinerary based around that 2) If you bougie it’s totally fine be bougie and f what people think about it. This is always your experience not theirs. (Recovering from my bougie trauma from others) 3) Even when things don’t go as plan a download is coming in to help pivot. So technically everything is going as planned 4) The beach seems to make everything go away.

There was a tiny yellow lizard in my room in the Seychelles and I had to get housekeeping to find it. I couldn’t imagine sleeping in accommodation in the jungle and dealing with the bugs, lizards etc.
