EMD SD40-2 High Hood On NS Mixed Freight Train 

I'm sure some of you will be happy to know that the 1627 is still very much in use with Norfolk Southern. It's currently used as a yard switcher engine in Crewe, VA and is outfitted with remote control capabilities so that it can either be operated conventionally with an engineer or by a "belt pack remote control" that is secured to the yard foreman's reflective vest. Absolutely awesome engine that has been for the most part completely reliable during it's time on Crewe Yard.

I miss the old high hoods.never thought in the mid 80s id ever go a day with out seing one now im lucky to see one a year

Norfolk-Southern is a classy railroad. They did a lot of upgrading. And rebuilding of their fleet. Very very tidy from the video shot.

That 4th engine with the high nose, I haven't seen one of those in a little over 30 years. I didn't know some were still in service.

Great catch with the high hood and the flat car. High hoods were well before my time but I can definitely see the appeal to the rail fan community.

Pretty rare to see an SD 40 - 2 on the main line on a big mixed manifest a freight train I know we have about a handful of the Union Pacific St 40 - 2 in the El Paso area I've never seen a high Hood SD 40-2. that must be extremely rare on the on any major carrier
