🌺 STORY 🌺
A call of a special bird welcomes the new day. It’s a House Wren, a small brown bird that nests in whatever quaint crevice it can find. This House Wren is starting it’s wonderful journey of finding a new home, flying over a beautiful blooming rose garden, through a flowering grape vine, and into various man-made buildings. Meanwhile, we also see a different perspective, of someone who is gazing upon the nature before them and admiring the beauty of the landscape they inhabit.
The Hunters represent the nature found in this bird’s travels. As the Wren feels the warmth of the sun on its back and the coolness of the air beneath its wings, the flora beneath the bird sway back and forth. Several flower or nature themed moves are featured in this routine, Rose, Primrose, Waterfall, and Up Petal. The Hunters make use of the arena, exploring the vast landscape that the bird travels through. Moves such as the split and Dye resemble a man made structure, while the File (evens curling over back into their spots), represent the feeling of returning home. In the second half of the routine, the Hunters shift their perspective from being the many places the wren can call home, to the environment far and wide, including rivers, the moon, and the wind.
🌺 ABOUT THE OPEN COMP TEAM 🌺
Emerald Hunters is a semi-competitive dressage and event club. Emerald Hunters participates in several SSD and non-SSD competitions per year. The team competing in this routine is called our "Open Comp Team", which is a team that allows for riders at the Intermediate or higher level to participate in smaller competitions with simpler routines. This team was founded in early June 2021, and allows riders who have completed our Fundamentals and Beginner levels to begin applying those skills for performance. Riders on the Open Comp Team learn several new moves per routine, and learn performance skills that can be transferred into their real lives. Riders can also share their creative input for musical selections, outfits, and routine design.
🌺 MUSICAL SELECTIONS 🌺
The music chosen for this routine is “House Wren” by Owl City and “Bird Song” by The Wailin’ Jennys. “House Wren” was chosen as an exciting introduction to the routine, and serves as a pleasant ode to the bird’s natural behavior. A catchy whistle reverberates throughout the song, while the bright piano and bass line move the song in a forward direction. The lyrics paint a colorful scene in which the bird goes about its day. Meanwhile the second song is “Bird Song” by The Wailin’ Jennys. A calmer and much more folk inspired song, this song was chosen to showcase a musical contrast and demonstrate a more pensive and nostalgic feeling. Similar to “House Wren”, “Bird Song” also sings a sweet melody, and includes rich harmonies. The lyrics depict a different perspective, one that reflects on the beauty of nature and the longing for a connection with nature. With these reasons, we felt that this routine captured our club’s fascination with nature and the environment.

Emerald Hunters is a semi-competitive dressage and nature themed club that focuses on furthering the education of dressage for all members. Members receive an organized and high level dressage education and can participate in fun events related to the environment. Emerald Hunters is non-Discord friendly, meaning members are not required to have Discord to join this club, but can still receive the voice-commanded experience by using Zoom!
