Tried our luck at an abandoned Emerald Mine in Western Australia. The minute the car stopped...Liz was at it again finding the first few pieces right away.
Hi Walnliz, I live in WA as well and would like to follow in your footsteps. How do i locate information on abandoned mines of different stones and metals? I hope you reply, thank you :)
Love it when i see you super excited! I think thats what got me hooked watching you whether you’re prospecting, talking to your baby P and of course sharing your succs collections!
It is a great hobby scaperist and the gems and gold are only a bonus. The hunt, scenery, and people you meet on the way is the real treasure. All the best...Wal.
A helpful tip I found from a friend on filming. During close ups of stones, if you block the background out completely with your hand, the camera will automatically focus on the item you are filming. Love your prospecting videos! Keep em coming. Alaska Doug
I absolutely love your guys’ videos, it’s just great Aussie noodling/fossicking goodness, and your enthusiasm is so good! It’s like me when I find stuff but my stuff isn’t ever close to the quality of what you two go and find haha🤣 What part of Australia are you guys based?
I have emeralds all over my road and Beryl and crystal and mixes. . I found a 10 lb Beryl Substrate? . Any of these worth anything? What do u do with all urs?
great video! I'm heading over to southern WA on a holiday to see some orcas and hopefully find some cool rocks around! What kind of stuff should I keep an eye open for??
Thanks for watching Blue. Southern WA has many locations that produce some great gemstones...especially further east around Kalgoolie. Keep an eye out for areas that have old mine tailings and keep an eye out for areas with quartz blow outs as many of these areas hold good crystal. Good luck over there. Cheers Wal.
Thanks Steve...problems with the back have kept me low mate, but takes a lot to keep one down for an extended time I'm hoping. All the best to the family and hope all's great up north with you all. Cheers Wal.
Hi. Just went mining for emeralds etc in the mountains of NC in USA. Trying to find literature on separating the emeralds rubies etc from rock. You know the best place to look? Website or something? Thank you
hello Wal nLiz, tip for your camping trips use a peice of shade cloth for ground sheet the dirt mostly goes through it and your feet keep a lot cleaner. the shade cloth is like carpet for camping very comfortable for your feet and does not take up much room. Have fun and thanks for the video'
Thanks for watching Wildy....Totally agree with you on the shade cloth for ground sheet mate and have been using it for a long time now. If you look closely you will see that the ground sheet is actually a double layer of shade cloth. Take care....Wal.
Extreme jealousy over here! I was fortunate enough to be able to find some tiny ones in torrington but the size and quality of these ones certainly makes them look quite insignificant. I was actually thinking recently that I've been missing your guys' videos, great to see you're still out and about making us all 'emerald' with envy.
Your videos are really cool! Great moments prospecting.. Is it possible to make a living prospecting in Australia? Congratulations! you guys should post more often!
Thanks for watching Caue. It's possible to make a living once you have the experience of where to look and where to sell what you find. Generally though full time prospectors have it quite tough. cheers Wal.
Hope to see some gold videos from you guys soon too, love watching you guys! Wal I was looking at a new minelab GPZ7000, would you recommend minelab? I have never used there stuff before.
Thanks for watching Patrick. Will have some more gold vids soon mate. As for the detectors, in my personal opinion you can't go past Minelab. As for the 7000 i have used them in a variety of locations but personally am not convinced they are worth the extra dollars you pay for them at the moment. If they bring out a smaller coil...say 11"'... to cover creek crevices and dense vegetation scenarios where we work a lot, then their balance would tip in my favor. I'll wait for MK 2 model before I would recommend them over a 5000 or 4500 for the time being. If you are only in open areas like WA and the GT then they are a top unit. My recommendation is still a 4500 or a 5000 for their versatility and coil range and you won't be disappointed.Take care....Wal.
hi wal and liz. do you guys know anything about musgravite? Apparently some was found in the musgrovite ranges in south australia, hence the name, I guess. can't seem to find out anything about it. if anybody knows anything, it would have to be you guys!
Thanks for watching Charles. Quite a few are gem quality and Liz will be posting some of the emeralds on her Liz Kreate Chanel when we get back into civilization. She has several emerald vids to post from this trip. All the best...Wal.
What is the easiest way to remove the matrix from emeralds that have mainly graphite or graphine rough. I know I can spend hours with a Dremel but please tell me a easier way
A year late for the reply, David. Wal's been really sick and can't manage this channel. Unfortunately for the Emerald cleaning, no other way I know but elbow grease. I find that when I soaked the mica matrix in water, they tend to dissolve in time. Had some matrix specimen left outdoors, evetually after a couple of years, the matrix started peeling away on some. Hope this helps and not to late. Cheers, Liz
Thanks for watching GGM....we found at least half a dozen top grade ones and will post a vid of them once we facet them. A lot of Beryl in this region and "B" grade emeralds, but the few "A" grade ones you do get are top quality. Cheers Wal.
Are you on the Aussie Lapidary Fourm if so can you please tell me your fourm name because I have some questions which you night not like to share online

Thanks for watching Bryan. A search on Ten Graph from the WA Mines Department will indicate which mines are pending and which leases are expired or active. Not that difficult to find out the status of every mine in WA if you go to the trouble of researching them.... Cheers Wal.
Rock's other picture good emeralds and smart diligent discipline grateful kids happy good friend bad fighting around kids it causes trauma friend assertive women good different than men men strong heart
Thanks for watching JRX 2. Depends on which country you are in and the laws of that country as to where you can collect them. In Australia if the abandoned mine has no mineral lease over it you can collect at will. If the mine has an exploration lease over it you can still fossick there if you obtain a 40 E permit from the mines department. If the mine has a mining lease over it then the only way to fossick there is with the permission of the lease holder. Cheers Wal.
I was led to believe that it used to be a Western mining lease, they must have given it up. Been enjoying your vids guys wish i could be doing the same.
