The most famous emergency backup goaltender, David Ayres, joins Jay and Dan to relive his magical Saturday night, reflect on his emotions from the night, and describe how it all felt like a dream.
So Canadian! A true warrior yet so humble! David Ayers you have my respect and you are the type of Canadian that makes us proud!! Cheers from Vancouver!
Loved the Hurricanes good bunch of guys, bet they never played so hard all season. lol. David, is great such a nice guy and an ambassador for Kidney Disease to boot.
Was watching the Canuck game and it went to intermission and the announcers were saying what a crazy game in Toronto etc etc. They always say that and it's never anything worth watching so shut up I thought you homers. For once I was wrong. Good job David Ayres.
I just love this guy. The interviews he has given- wow. I wanna say one thing that can be a bit lost in this. Coming from Norway, I wanna salute the Canadien sportsmanship given by the Leafs franchise from head coach down, that they give to David after a grueling loss like this and the obvious slaughter Leafs get in the press the day after. Not a Leafs fan, but I almost turned into one watching that. Respect, and may you rise for better days and for some Leafs glory again. Go Leafs go
As a Canes fan... I'm not surprised that these three literally had no idea what he was going to be doing in Carolina.. Even though it's quite literally already been announced via Canes: HE will be sounding the STORM SIREN to start the game - they do this at the start of each game. It's similar to somebody being the person who honorary drops the puck. I'm sure they'll also have a video package and other tributes for David. IT was a HUGE win for Carolina in the middle of the playoff race.
What karma? They’ve been losers for over 50 years lmao. Trolling for a losing team is like flaunting how great you are with your ferarri that cost you all your money and you have no money left.
1. You're an obnoxious troll yourself. 2. Ayres is a Maple Leafs fan himself, so he's part of that same fanbase who somehow deverses "karma" according to you.
YouZettaSonsOfDigits @ True, but there is a reason I rip on them is because there shit fans. There GM is a joke, they fired Babcock( not saying it was good or bad), there management has had moles in the room, paying for players that haven’t really done anything, all round crap fans that shit on there so called team,Leafs management listening to them. Then the media takes all of this negative discourse and runs story after story about how the leafs suck here and how they need to trade there. Maybe get behind your team before coming for me. Positive attitudes and atmospheres breed success. One last thing too, a large reason why I do not like the Leafs is because of the media’s none stop coverage of them.
He had.... “patrick roy moment”. What i mean is, he wasn’t perfect, but, in the end, he helped the team he was assigned to play for get a win. And, one thing patrick roy knew how to do in net was find a way to help his team get the win. Career vs career, not even close to patrick roy. Best Moment vs best moment, pretty close. Not lifting a stanley cup close, but, as close as he will ever get.
@Joe Sudz Roy had a winning record against Detroit in the playoffs though and stoned their dominant 62 win team in 1996. Lots of Red Wings fans seem to wanna forget that.
I really screamed like Don Cherry when I got into a fight with my dad about this game and compared it to John Lennon's Jesus remark as in when he thought Jesus was a joke. That's what I shouted.
I do believe this was shot on a different set than a previous segment they did. Hence why they came running in off screen, but I'm not sure why TSN felt like they needed to show that lmfao, let alone david sitting by himself while he waited for them xD
I was really disappointed by this interview. They did not do him justice, barely spoke at all about him in the game, the saves, playing the puck which led to the goal. He not only came in for the first time in his life, but he did enough to win the game. I really wish they asked better questions. Anyway, this guy is an instant legend.
So a guy takes his grandkid to a hockey game...….Hold my beer and Rueben, pappy has to play! Grandkid: Again? It's just the Leafs , let my preschool class take the this round.
$59.8 MILLION U.S. in paid salaries for 4 top Maple Leafs forwards for this 2020 year alone and they can't beat an amateur beer league goalie / zambonie driver LMAO!!!
He's not even a beer league goalie that's the thing lmfao. He hasn't played since 04' I believe, then comes in and proceed's to stop 8 for 10 to seal the game for the Canes. It was impressive as hell, and as someone who you might as well qualify as a Leaf Hater, I relished in them losing to the Canes & David.
if byfuglien can pass the drug test .nhl ,not khl, if you know what i mean. offer him a couple of 24s a few bucks trade him to the leafs and watch the pain train begin, maybe then the leaf nation can take the paper bags off there faces , a tribute to the unknown fan , this idea brings me back to the ballard ,neilson era, go leafs go
Leafs have been looking for a backup goaltender for at least a few yrs now, and their opponent was able to beat them with an emergency goaltender in net for half the game who is just simply not NHL caliber🤭🤭
L G R W highest he played was junior B in like 1999 lol, there’s no way in hell he should be good enough to save those shots so it just shows how incredibly on point he was
Start benching players Keefe, please...pretty simple...you want consistency, focus, commitment...well, it does not matter who they are, if they are giving up the puck, sloppy, not skating, not focused, bench them no matter who it is. Time to try something else Keefe, please....on the PP, PK, let others play... Enough is enough. GO LEAFS GO
As much fun as it was to see this happen and as good a guy as he seems to be, this kind of thing has to stop for one simple reason. The NHL is the least popular of the 4 major North American pro leagues and it this doesn't help. I don't remember who made this point on air but they said "Can you imagine a fan coming out of the stands in an MLB game to pitch to Mike Trout? Would the NFL allow someone to come out of the stands to play in a game? The answer is no. Every NHL team should have some competent person with the team at all times who can serve as an emergency third goaltender, it's that simple. At the very least make it a local college or university or junior league goalie, someone who could at least be eligible to be signed or partake in a tryout etc, it can't be someone who would never in a million years otherwise be in such a position. I hope they create such a rule at the next GM meetings.
