I was taught this trick by my dad when i was a teenager but i love that you make these videos to help everyone who didnt have a dad that was mechanically inclined or a good teacher. And you make it very easy to understand. Great video! And man i died laughing with the whole analyzer number stick! All my vehicles have an analyzer number stick in it. It can help with this issue or a starter issue. Theyre great to have!
This is a great one Mr. Sanchez. Your description of the motor diagnosis is very easy to understand. Your personality is also great and makes it fun to watch 🙂
Fantastic video... Well done. I learned this one when I was working as a mechanic. A lot of people do not know about the brushes in electric motors. Best to keep a rubber mallet in the vehicle. I watch my millage on all major electronic components, i.e. Alternator and Starter, and change them at their Expected End of Service Life of 100,000 miles. Better to change before they fail, then when you are on vacation.
Awesome 👏🏼 ! Thanks for sharing your knowledge !! I really enjoy learning from ya’ . I appreciate the technical / foundational concepts and the fun friendly humour . Seeing the parts inside of a motor is so helpful in understanding what is happening . Thanks again !
Excellent video sir! I've seen the "bang your gas tank" approach on many other videos but your emphasis on having the power to the pump on first makes all the difference as you demonstrated with the blower motor. It's one thing being an expert mechanic but teaching to others is another skill entirely and you have it all. I look forward to your other episodes - and I am probably older than you!
Thank you very much sir for that awesome comment and the view. I am so fortunate to be able to teach the knowledge that I have . I guess teaching for over forty years helps. Thank you again.
Muchas gracias por ese bonito comentario y la vista. Estoy de acuerdo, es difícil encontrar un mecánico que NO solo esté interesado en ganar tanto dinero con usted en lugar de ser honesto. Gracias de nuevo mi amigo de you tube.
Just found your channel and enjoy the content. Thank you for your efforts and sharing your knowledge, know how and decades of experience. It's much appreciated and much needed. My high school Auto Tech teacher just passed away, George Wilcox. He's sorely missed. Your vast knowledge and ability to teach reminds me of him. Thank you. Also, you may or may not have an appreciation for Scotty Kilmer, I enjoy his content and his comic relief. We don't need another channel like his, and I'm not suggesting that. I like your style and your content, and look forward to more. I do wonder though if you should study his business model, and how it has brought him success. I believe your style and knowledge has a lot to offer, and could go far if done similar or perhaps even better? Just a thought
Randolph, Thank you so much for that Awesome comment. I am flattered to be compared to your auto tech teacher George Wilcox. My first name is Jorge, which is Spanish for George. Yes I have been watching Scotty before I started my channel. I kind of study his style and shows. I hope one day to be at least half as successful as him. Thank you again for the comment and the views.
Thank you for that information. I know plenty of AC motors are brushless, bit I did not know the new stuff was using brushless. Thank you for the view.
Yes...! You are very correct. It works for the same reason. Tapping on an electric DC motor shakes the brushes, they make the contact and it works . Thank you for the view and that extra information.
Wow!! I am glad there is still someone like You who can really tell us all how and what is going on. I work on cars, I have always known to hit the starter and the gas pump with a hammer or a stick when it’s not working, but I never even think about the mechanics and why. I thank you for your video. I am glad you took the time to explain. I can just see your experience. I never want to be young again…
Turning the key on will "Prime" the fuel pump. That means the computer turns on the fuel pump on for about two seconds. Thank you for that nice comment.
That is so Awesome. I am very Glad that I was able to help you. Please stell your family and friends about my channel. Thank you for that Postive comment.
I did that and it worked but here's my question, once it starts, how long till it shuts off? I'm trying to get my truck to my mechanic shop which is about 30 or 40 minutes away from my house. I know heat is not a friend of bad fuel pumps and as you kow, Texas heat is brutal.
Sorry, I do not. Is it electric ? Electric pumps are sealed and not meant to be dissembled for repair. You will have to use an after market pump. You should be able to buy one. Do not get the cheap one. Buy the most expensive one they have. Thank you for the view and the question.
We tried this out and it doesn't crank over all the way. Almost. Or if we spray starter fluid in the intake it will rev up for a few seconds and cut out again. We guessing fuel pump isn't powerful enough to send enough fuel. It did turn on when we jumped it. Not sure what else it may be.
What type of vehicle is it ? About half of the engines have a place to measure fuel pressure. This pressure point has a Schrader valve (like a tire stem) . You can use a small screwdriver to depress the Schrader to see if any fuel comes out. If it runs a few seconds on the spray, it is for sure it is fuel related. Thank you for the view and the question.
A friends 2005 Murano starts when cold even -30c but after it warms up, drive for an hour or several, turn it off and then it won't fire. Have to let it sit for about an hour, then starts fine. Been putting up with it for years. Ideas?
Thank you for the view and the question. I wish I could tell you exactly what's wrong with it. For some reason I have a hunch it has to do with the ignition system. I will put a link in this reply so you can make and use a spark tester. All you have to do is, when the engine doesn't run you use the spark tester. Good luck to you and your friends. Thank you again. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lHqIBE_Vlmg.html
@@theoldmecanicoshow9004 thanks, however....if it was spark, it should happen randomly even while driving. As in quit running. It should happen when trying to start at -30c. It never does. It has to be up at full temp to happen, and then only starts after sitting about an hour. Then starts no problem.🤔
@@alan4sure Both the ignition system and the fuel system can have intermittent failures. That means the problem comes and goes. The engine is the only part that is not intermittent. Once it has a problem, it does not go away. Thank you for the views and the questions. I appreciate it.
Do you know if there is a fuel pump reset switch/button, that must be activated after a slight bump like accident. That causes the fuel pump to disengage? Thanks in advance.
Thank you for the view and the question. Ford motor company has been using a fuel cutoff switch call an "Inertia Switch". The idea is to turn off the fuel pump during a car crash. Hitting a bump on the road Should Not trigger the switch. Thank again.
So how detrimental is having a clean fuel filter well duh i know it's better if it is but will having a dirty filter stop the pump from running at all?
Thank you for the view and the question. A dirty / restricted fuel filter will make the fuel pump work harder (more amps) More amps and the strain of working harder will shorten the life of the pump.
I wish I could tell you exactly what is wrong with your vehicle. Every vehicle is different, real different. Wiring diagrams explain in detail the unique ways each vehicle is laid out. As different as they are, there is THREE THINGS IN COMMON. To make the pump work : 1. HOT/Positive (now) 2. Negative/GRD (now) 3. Good pump (now). I wish I could tell you which part you are missing. Give the year / make / model / engine size and I will check a diagram Thank you for the view and the question.
My email is theoldmecanico@gmail.com If you email me I can give you my phone number so we can talk. I have too many questions to try and type pack and forth.
Thank you for the question and the view. Hitting the near the fuel pump shakes the contact brushes as shown on video at 1:15 time into the video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wurODk_njmo.html
You are correct. We were still learning how to operate the camera. The screen would go blank and we thought it stop recording. Any way... thank you for the comment and the view.
The Best way to overcome the # 1 reason DC motors fail, is worn electrical sliding "Brushes". Three things needed : positive voltage Now / negative voltage Now / Vibration. Thank you for the view and the question. Good Luck my You Tube Friend.
WOW..You are correct. I was wondering if anybody would notice. We were still learning how to operate the camera and made several mistakes. Thank you for the view and the comment.
In "sequence"; Did you have Key in ON, position? going to say yes, but missed that part Past car, i heard Fuel Pump run with Key in On position, Car now will Not run Pump Until Key is turned to Start. But wil Do the 'Wack' on Tank with Love. thanks.
Thank you for the question. I hope I can answer your question. It's called "Fuel Pump Priming". This is for most normal operating vehicle( not broken car) As so as the key is turned to the on position, the fuel pump should start to operate . AS the key is turned to the start position, the pump should say on. If you turn the key ONLY to the on position, average pumps should operate about 3-6 seconds. Every vehicle is different.
Hello just watched ur vedio on fuel pumps going bad well I have a 00 blazer I don't hear any noise from the pump she cranks but no start no spark eighteen please help
Thank you for the question. I want to help you. A few questions first: When was the last time it ran ? Did it just suddenly not start one day? Was it driving and then just turn off. No spark is almost always the crank sensor.
Well so happy u responded back correction on my part open the Gas door heard the pump running so my question is do u need a resistor on the yellow wired to kill that anti their system the security light is cutting the fire off I really think that
@@philliphubbard9576 If the security light is blinking with the key in the on position, you have a problem with the security system. You will need more than an average code reader, because you need to read the Body codes. If the security light is on steady with the key on, you have an ignition problem. Your vehicle has an ignition module and a crank sensor that will cause no spark / no start. The module is EZ to replace (EZ to get to / cost about $50 / cheaper if you get on-line) The crank sensor is a bit more difficult to get to. Some of the auto parts stores can test your module. I would do that first. Good luck.
@@theoldmecanicoshow9004 well I just did the ignition bypass the light is out now and every time I put it to the on position it cranks but still no start so wit this mind what do I do from here do I buy another cps,and ignition module and does the map has to be put back in to fire up
Hello David. Banging on the bottom of the tank can cause enough vibration to get the pump to work. I have done it with successfully a 100 times. (probably 500 try's). I remember doing it in front of an audience (15 students) during a shop demonstration with success . That was the best times. Thank you for the view and the question.
I don't know where my fuel pump is to hit it LOL I drive a 2010 Ford sport trac does anyone here know where it's located I think about the gas tank and if that's the case well I'm screwed no pun intended 😅
The fuel pump is inside the fuel tank. The fuel tank should be close to where you put the gas in. You will probably have to lay on the ground to see and hit the tank. Good Luck.
