ABOUT US:
Hello! I’m Vivienne, the châtelaine of a small 19th century neo-Renaissance castle in the Loire Valley of France, which I share with my delightful husband, Simon, our daughter, and -whenever possible- lovely friends and family.
This is not our first chateau! 23 years ago, we bought a much larger castle nearby, which we loved with all our hearts. However, nearly 2 decades, many happy memories, countless renovations, and several small fortunes later, we made the very difficult, empty-nesting decision to downsize. With great luck and perseverance, we found our current petit château, which we are now decorating and updating with love, humour, comfort, and -of course- antiques and art!
We adore France and its many unique facets: its people, culture, landscapes, wine, food, art, and history. We also love being surrounded by châteaux, both public and private, which we can explore together! After 20 years here, we have learned many things about living in France, renovating châteaux, and appreciating the extraordinary riches surrounding us. We originally decided to make these videos as a way to share our lives with our loved ones worldwide during the pandemic lockdowns. However, we soon realised that many others are at home alone, and it is our privilege to open our home to you, our new friends. We hope you will join us on our adventures in this exceptional location, and we look forward to sharing a little Château Love!

On a nice sunny day in January put a handful of potent fertilizer at the foot of the Quince day and water it really well so it sinks into the ground and you should have tons of fruits next year!!!

She shouldn’t even need to ask for help !!! I would never ever have had to ask my daughter to help out . My daughter is younger than hers , but very helpful and kind and has always helped out without me asking except for a few hard months when she was badly bullied and struggled to “find herself” at about 13 years old when she started youth school ( as we call it) the 3 years of middle school before Highschool starts at 16. When my mom passed away 3 years ago, my daughter was like an extension of me.. she was just wonderful in the organizing and clear up after the funeral . I was busy with meetings with the priest and undertakers and writing the eulogy and calling everyone and inviting people to the funeral, as it was during covid.. , she just took over the practical side of things. From decorating to cleaning up. My daughter is expecting a baby in 7 weeks, she’ll be the best mom. Her goal is to be like me she says, but I know she’ll be an even better mom ❤ She’s really outstanding . I’m so proud that everyone who meet her says so , so I know it’s not just me😂 She’s the manager at a Lux cocktail bar in our city. She was promoted to that after just a few months. She’s so responsible and creative and has given the place new life 😊 The owner wants her to take over in a few years😊 I’m a very proud mama as you can tell!!

You are so kind but I have to defend the young ladies (and the gents, too)! They were voluntarily doing DIY, cleaning the rest of the house, and cooking for lots of people. They did help me strip beds, etc., but naturally thought it would be super-uncool of me to film that! Poor Simon had to help me build the bed and then drive to Paris to be at work the next morning! And yes, I was exhausted, but nothing that a night with friends and family, a glass of bubbly and a good night’s sleep didn’t sort out. 🥰🏰💖

Quinces! The Cloisters in NYC HAD THE MOST BEAUTIFUL quince trees that were spectacularly sculptural! Alas I believe it was Hurricane Sandy that devastated them. They were so beautiful that they deserved literary recognition. Your jewelry is as usual magnificent.

If you wish to pickle walnuts you must pick them around June time, before the shell becomes too hard. You then prick all over, and then soak in salt water for about a week or two. You then repeat it twice more and by this time the water should be turning quite dark. I think then it's time to bottle them. Maybe look on the website to check as I can't remember if you rinse before putting them into vinegar. Hope this helps. Xx

Wow! Ashley is very talented!❤ I love the room you transformed! It’s certainly not monastic. No monk’s or nun’s cell would have a bed that luxurious, or a private bathroom, especially one so posh! The plants were a nice touch! I need to find some beeswax floor polish! I live in a 142 year-old farmhouse with solid maple floors in the living and dining rooms, and both ground floor bedrooms. I would love to get them to shine like the floors in that bedroom!

My mother used to pickle walnuts - it was a bit complicated. You had to prick them with a fork (my job) then brine them for a week or two, Then dry them for a day or so till they turned black. Then pickle them in hot malt vinegar & sugar. Occasionally she put pickling spice into the malt vinegar.

Hi guys, beautiful vlog as always, can I suggest that you get a professional in to prune your fruit trees. They look very old and have a lot of die back and look like they haven't been done in ages. It will help keep the trees producing new growth and fruit. They are beautiful trees and the receipes you made from them looked delicious.
