Also remember there is liquid in can goods, such as green beans - do not dump this water out as we normally do. Although not the best to drink, but it is better than not having any water

I have 5, 800 liter water container units that I purchased in Mexico called 'tinacos' burried in my property with a pump system. I am currently cycling the water (keeping them filled at all times but using that as my water source). If there's ever a problem obtaining water, I will use that for drinking. I've also purchased 'colloidal' silver and a filter. Did I forget to mention, Frank Joe Biden and Frank him good...
@billyzee261

Another thing that I'd like to mention is that I don't think that the liquid in canned goods may contain chemicals that are not good for you, unless you've done your own canning. FJB.
@billyzee261
@billyzee261 2 года назад
Oh, I also purchased some washable sediment filters in Mexico. They are made from plastic disks that can be easily cleaned when clogging starts to happen. These filters are great for filtering out any sediment from a water source. This will keep your fine filters cleaner for a longer period of time. Very cheap and highly recommended. Manufacturer is ROTOPLAS.

I spent $200,000 to completely solar power my large ranch. I have multiple homes and wells on the ranch. From deep wells and 78 foot well that are independently solar powered. Plus I have a couple of 26 foot hand pumped wells. Water is absolutely critical for human, chickens and longhorn cattle and my large square foot garden and even my fruit and nut trees. Spent $10,000 to EMP protect my two tractors, my excavator, my two trucks and the home systems. I have ways to wood heat, run my air on my solar systems. I can grow my vegetables and grain and potatoes. I sold my technology company and I’m learning to be a rancher and growing food. I never realized how hard it is even though I’ve had a Square Foot Garden most of my adult life. Start now to prepare. You will make a lot of mistakes and need time to learn.

@@DocumentTheDownfall It’s always a decision off how much to disclose. But we also have a duty to try to help and inform fellow man. I have multiple ranches. Also I’ve always been a bit adventurous. In my youth I volunteered in the military and they taught me Russian and sent me places. I got to see the real world and thought I was pretty tough. Then I met the SEALS and became friends with some real tough guys. Also some other special ops guys. For SHTF Green Berets would probably be better. The SEALS are generally in and out quickly with massive planning and resources. The Green Berets are long term no resources and improvise, improvise, improvise. I have staff that is pretty tough that it would be a mistake to mess with. The ranchers around here have night vision like PVS-14 and thermal scopes and grew up killing feral pig at night. They consider them ranch equipment. My friends like to practice on my 300 meter private shooting range with 30 cal targets. Also, most bad guys are stupid and lazy. Getting anything out of a ranch takes a lot of long term work that is not appealing to them. I have great security and surveillance systems. Longhorn cattle and chickens are work. And I’m always close to my Glock 19 and never too far from my IWI X-95 bullpup. The younger guys seem to prefer 7.62 accessories. All my ranching neighbors are armed. I’m older and slower now but I can still hit a 3” target at 40 yards. Life’s an adventure.

We went a week without water after a hurricane. Have been through several hurricanes never lost water before. It was miserable. We had just enough drinking water stored but not enough to flush the toilet. It was a nightmare. 5 people, unable to flush. Started collecting water from mud puddles so we could flush. Bad memories, and of course no electricity in the middle of summer in Florida. It felt like hell on earth. 1 week without water, 2 weeks without electricity.

Famous saying, "DIG THE WELL BEFORE YOU'RE THIRSTY." A decade ago, before I retired from the army, I told my family I will buy an acreage with its own well when I retire. I now live on 3.5 acres with an independent well. It has a filtration system. In addition, I could further sanitize it if needed. I am relieved that I do not need to depend on any municipal system. I need to further build a multi- hundred-gallon collection system. Having 3.5 acres is a blessing. I have the opportunity to set out multiple barrels to collect the rainwater. I can have a large supply of bleach or tablets depending on container size. There is always a method to store water.

Also, I found tonight that Dick's Sporting Goods store have seven gallon water containers for storing water, $20 each. I found the plastic inside a wine box can be reused. Clean with vinegar and keep it handy to gather water. The spigot comes out, just with 2 pliers, gently pull it out. For those on a budget. I've had one in my backpack gear & also have filled with h20 and freeze it and fits perfectly in a ice cooler. Also, for anyone driving in the heat, it can be frozen & lye flat. and put behind a car seat cover.😁. Keeps u cool for many hours.

Great information. I have a zero pitcher--actually two. When it is time to change the filter, I put the old filter in a pitcher and the new filter in another pitcher. I fill the pitcher with the new filter with water from the pitcher with the old filter. In this way the water that come out of the old pitcher is still filtered way above what comes out of the faucet and my filters last twice as long. Once it is time to change the filter in the new pitcher, I put it in the old pitcher, throw away the old filter, put a new filter in the new pitcher and continue on. This is a multilayer system just with two pitchers.

I also chill the water in the refrigerator first, before I run it through the zero water filters - because of the fishy smell that can be associated with those filters. I've had a much longer life span with this method. 💦

Great video thank you! I’m from the UK, I have 50 litres stored in my under stairs cupboard. I did this after our tap water in half our town got contaminated, and we didn’t have water for 2 days. The councils advice was to boil it before drinking, but I didn’t want my family touching it. At the time I drove to a friends house who’s water was clean and filled 20ltr water camping container. Anyway, just a little lesson that even minor disturbances to our services, can cause a headache if we’ve not thought ahead :) I plan to add to the 50ltrs, but I know that’ll be fine for us for a few days.

Been a master plumber for yrs. Your inlet on a water heater is 3/4 ", the outlet at the bottom of the tank is a cheap, NON AMERICAN MADE VALVE and made out of plastic??? SO, when I put a water heater in my families house, I take the bleed valve out and replace it with a 3/4" copper/ brass nipple with a threaded 3/4" FULL PORT VALVE and then a 3/4" threaded adaptor to a hose bin. If I have a problem of any kind with the water heater. I have a full 3/4 inlet to a 3/4 outlet. NO RESTICTIONS, NONE. Cost is less than $50.. Also. The valve never locks up with hard water. And if you flush your water heater every 3/6 months, your garrenteed the pressure coming in is the same going out! No restrictions.. And if you need water, you can get it out. Also I have my WH about a foot higher that the floor. This way you can fill a bottle or a pan. I also have a 55 gallon barrel I catch rain water in and when it's full it just over flows. That's about 33 toilet flush if you have a 1.6 toilet. Good luck, PREY FOR AMERICA.. AMEN.. LOVE YOU ALL........

They have a spigot option available for easy pouring. In an emergency, I can load up the bed of my truck with them if I have to leave quickly, and they can also be stored in my chest freezers to extend the time the freezers stay cold in a power outage.

Great information - thank you! We've stored bottled water for drinking and filled other containers for hygiene water. We don't use dairy/milk jugs. Also bought a WaterBob which is a water storage bladder that unfolds in a bathtub and has hose to fill from spigot and a pump to get the water out as needed. I think it is 100-gallon capacity. We have a Berkey we use daily. We have coffee filters for pre-filtering and Potable Aqua Water Purification Tablets for purifying water if it's not tap water. We do have a box of water test strips to test the tap water but have not done so yet. Also have some LifeStraws. Would like to set up a rain catchment system but have not so far. Stored water will eventually run out and carrying water from the river is not doable for us. Also, I think rainwater would be easier to purify. We have Steramine Quaternary Sanitizing Tablets for sanitizing food contact surfaces as they last a long time and bleach does not.

Hi Safe Harbor, me too. Space is limited. I lived in NYC for many years when I didn't think about prepping until 9/11 and the long summer week+ blackout the following year or two. I store 1 gallon bottles (not in the opaque milk jug type plastic bottles, but rather in the clear sturdier bottles) on the floor of a closet in neat rows. It put some cardboard over and put our shoes on top. I have 20 gallons in closets for two of us. Not nearly enough, but just to get beyond the chaos. You can also keep a bathtub water bladder handy,not very expensive, if you have some warning, like a storm, and they hold up to 100 gal of potable water. I hope those suggestions help.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video, and for the additional learning resources info! This video answered some of my burning/ puzzling questions!! Very helpful, vital info!! Thank You! Question though: I've heard it said that if you open and smell an older bottle of chlorine bleach, if it still smells like bleach, its still okay, to use for sterilizing drinking water, etc. How true? sure of a thing is that though? You'd think that the germ-killing potency of the bleach would be gradually dropping-off. Is there another way to test if the potency of the bleach is strong enough to sanitize drinking water? Maybe some swimming pool test strips of some sort? What "number" or level of chlorine would I be looking for, in the tested water (in preparation for drinking) then? ("Regular", liquid chlorine bleach is getting to be hard to find!! I DID take you tip on getting some pool shock though!) Thank You!!

A simple tip....here where i live they sell wine and fruit juices is 3 and 5 liter boxes...inside this box is a bladder with a dispensing tap ..the tap can be pulled out to wash the bladder and refill it with water...these boxes are disposed and are a free rescource for short to medium term storage...it folds up really small and easily fits into a big out bag..i have two in my bag...that gives me the capacity to collect and store over two gallons...i suggest you all collect a few

Awesome video as always. The key point for me was to remind me that it's always better to use two methods in series eg filter AND boil. I keep calcium hypochlorite and some candle-filters. But I've learned that I need to improve on how I would pre-filter contaminated water.

@AnnBearForFreedom
@AnnBearForFreedom 2 года назад
In addition to mechanically pre-filtering any water as best you can before running it through the Berkey, I was instructed to use a green scrubby pad (aka Scotch pads) to clean the surface of the filter elements and then rinse the scrubbed filters with clean water on a regular basis. 'Regular basis' depends on how heavily used your filters are, I guess.
@SafeHarborAlliance
@SafeHarborAlliance Год назад
The Berky is a good filter, but it is important to get the water as clear as possible. It will filter murky water but the filter will plug up sooner. The more cloudy or muddy the water the sooner it will plug. There are a few simple basic things you can do with dirty water if you don't have a good set of prefilters. 1) Put the water in a container (bucket or such) and let is set undisturbed for hours, over night or longer, for particulate to settle out. 2) Skim off any floaters and use the water from above the stuff that settled out. 3) Mechanically filter it through as many layer as needed of coffee filter, paper towels, bath towels, etc. as needed to get the water to look clear.

Have a question.... When using the SODIS method, does the circumference of the clear bottle matter? For example, I have some gallon clear glass "canning"/storage jars. Would these be appropriate? All I've ever seen demonstrated are 1 or 2 liter clear plastic soda bottles, or even the occasional clear glass whiskey bottle, and they are obviously skinnier than a gallon jar. So will a gallon jar work? BTW, I use a really fat foot-long piece of pvc pipe covered in the shiny side of aluminum foil (as a reflector) to set my SODIS bottles in.
@SafeHarborAlliance
@SafeHarborAlliance Год назад
The clear 2 liter bottles are the right size. Also the water needs to be clear so the UV can penetrate, any cloudiness of the water will reduce or negate the effectiveness.

Once we calculated how much water we would need for a month, we realized it would be difficult to store that much water. We wanted a month of water for two people and two pets. We decided that we would need 60 gallons. (We only have 18 gallons stored now.) 60 gallons are difficult to storage and handle. Our temperature varies from 103 to 0, sometimes less than zero. A 55 gallon drum would not work for us. We discovered and order a WaterBob for storage of water. It is a plastic liner for a bath tub. It can store up to 100 gallons. It includes a pump to dispense the water. We plan to use if there was a major water issue. Of course that would meant we would have to have a few hours notice a head of time. The item has given us peace of mind.

I called the water Bob company. They said it's only good for 6 to 8 weeks of storage time. I too thought it was a sigh of relief when I got mine. So you have to have multiple ones so that you can extend the time of having water by changing out the water Bob. In addition I asked the owner what would be the best thing to put in the water of the water Bob to keep it safe from developing anything toxic and he said that chlorine dioxide kits would be the best thing to use inside the water Bob hope this helps

He meant 55 gallons. Food grade plastic barrels are $15 used. 350 gallon totes are $60 used. Water can be sterilized with ozone generators and UV "C" light. An old fashioned pitcher pump can be bolted to the kitchen counter to overhang the kitchen sink. The 350 gallon totes can be positioned in the basement to feed the pitcher pump. Until you have assembled a water system, you are not prepared.
