To think this performance is over 40 years old ! Still an effing FANTASTIC one though ! RIP Keith " Fingers" Emerson and Greg "The Voice" Lake ! Long live Carl "Thunder Maker" Palmer !!! ELP FOREVER !!!!

The fact that they're playing in the cold and jamming in a empty stadium is amazing in itself. All of that aside, you have to appreciate the great music the three of them makes. One of the great bands of all time.

As a Canadian, I'm unsure how they were even able to move their fingers playing outside in the winter! Amazing!

While in Montreal, during their 1977 tour of America, the band was rehearsing in the basement of the Olympic stadium, the only space available sufficiently large to accommodate themselves and the orchestra. During a coffee break, Lake took the lift upstairs, and was struck by the spectacle of the empty stadium under a carpet of snow, and was inspired to hold a jam session in the unique environment. They organized for their equipment to be set up early the following morning, and a video recordist to document the proceedings. Despite the extreme cold, the trio, dressed in their warmest gear, completed a version of Fanfare in four separate "takes", filming each member individually, then one of the trio

I discovered this group from an interview that I had read with Kelly Bailey, my favorite soundtrack composer. In the interview he said he remembered seeing this very performance broadcasted on TV as a kid and he thought the modular synth "looming over Emerson looked and sounded so cool" and he was hooked on the group. Bailey's music often involved a mix of guitars, beats, synthesizers and ambience, it's always cool to explore the family tree of inspiration, I'll be listening to more.

Really to do that in the extreme cold is in itself a wonder

Lake on the first King Crimson album... then ELP...

According to critics of the time their concerts were stravagant and pretentious. But Lady Gaga flying all over the crowd at the Superbow in 2017 was deemed marvelous. ELP was truly way ahead of their time and paved the way artists should put out a concert.

I thought the only one to not be dressed in winter garb would be Carl. As much of a workout he gets in this piece he should be wearing a T shirt
