My dad was at this show aged 19, saw a lot of bands since then, and still says this was one of the best he went to. His fandom of ELP rubbed off on me, still listening 2021 during the covid pandemic!
Your father is a wise man. I introduced my children to this music as they were growing up. Only stuck with two of them. Two out of three ain’t bad. First saw them live in ‘73 at the Philadelphia Spectrum. Was blown away.
Tried to see them in Milan, Italy in 1972 ( I was 15)...Had my ticket and everything...The night they were supposed to perform they did not and promoter gave some justification....I waited another day and still they didn't play...I learned later they were effing drunk.....Tickets were reimbursed
Noquestion this is an absolute masterpiece from Emerson. Lake & Palmer and I am still amazed about the quality of this groundbreaking record. ELP were a Top group seeing them Live play was a pure joy love this music still today and it does not sound outdated at all. Wish we would have music today in this quality . Enjoy it all guys and gals. ! Joerg
I used to put this on our livingroom console when I was a teenager and my sisters and little brother would do the "monster walk" to that tune at the very beginning....I got this album one year for my sister in later years and she said it brought back so many memories.
This album came out when I’ve was 5 . My brothers and I wore out the copy. I had to be a drummer because of Carl Palmer. Unreal masterpiece. Thanks for posting this
Fantastic album, listen to that crowd roar at the announcement! My workmate’s pal was at this concert. I sold all my old records, but soon to get a record deck and all analogue system and start buying some of my old favourites again. This record is one of the first on my list.👍 Update. Managed to get an original pressing of this album in great condition. Am at this moment playing it loudly on my new system and it sounds bloody brilliant, what a way to piss off the neighbours😂😂😂
Thank you ELP for opening my mind to endless musical possibilities, thru your ageless music. After I heard it for the first time, I could not get enough, and I was forever altered.
This album turned me on to classical Pictures. Haven't heard this ELP version of Pictures in at lest 30 years because I lost the LP. ELP turned me onto the orchestral Pictures at an Exhibition which became my favorite classical work. I was a huge fan of ELP in high school and they were the first concert I ever attended--at the old Cleveland Municipal Stadium. I got into jazz in college and Emerson's strong jazz and classical background really grabbed me.
Great bass playing. Used to listen to this as a 11 year old... can u imagine that now...still stands the test of time...all 3 were brilliant. Tarkus is still my fave. The triple live is bloody good too.
Saw this played live in San Bernadino, CA back in the late 70's. Will never forget the piano rising into the air and then rotating while being played. Who needs lasers?
When I listen to them, I go back in time. This band is a unique device for time travel, thru their original music. It envokes memories in our minds, and I am not alone - thereby I we get to re-live the past of the 1970's.
Bought the album during the winter of 71-72 when it first came out. Hadn’t listened to it in many a year, glad I listened now. Saw them at Madison Square Garden, it was great. Thanks for posting.
This was lovely, thank you, God I miss vinyl. I was also hoping we would get to see you physically flip the record over, key part of the ritual and such.
I have never seen them in person but love there music they were a great band and I love listening to there music they were very talented God Bless them all
They where and still are lite years ahead.... it's classic music of the future! I felt in love with their music in the 70s and I had the pleasure to see them in concert in Wimbledon, just magic
Greg was very underrated with his bass and guitar playing. He was one of the best out there. He was not only a great bass player but a wonderful guitarist as well. How lucky we were those of us who grew up in the late 60's and early 70's to have such wonderful musician's to listen too. I miss that time in my life. And I miss Greg Lake and Keith Emerson. I hope they are playing on that great stage in the sky with all the other wonderful musicians who have also gone on and left us. What a concert that would be!!
I've seen ELP in Paris early 70' IT was fantastic😉 and had this LP and Tarkus but they've been stolen in my studio :((( - great souvenir. RIP gentlemen 💔
👍Paulo, they are the big 3 prog rock groups.. That said, the Moody Blues, Genesis, and Jethro Tull are right up there too in my book, but don’t ask me to put them in an order of great to greatest. That is too tough a task!😉
Sir, this is probably the best transfer to RU-vid from vinyl I ever heard. This album was perfectly engineered (especially in early '70s!). I have listened to it a billion times since I got mine in the early '70s. Nothing is over driven, the audio clarity and quality is excellent. I no longer have this album. I am greatly moved! That they made this recording so well, in the infancy of electronic music instruments (Moog) and drums were difficult to record. John Bonham from Led Zeppelin talked about it back in the day. Well thank you for uploading this. Greg Lake's voice and guitar is not washy as heard in other transfers, drums and cymbals are clean and crisp! This is perfect! Now that you did this.. would you happen to have a copy of "Welcome back my friends..." ?
Thank you for your kind comment. I have everything ELP up to "Works Volume 1", so I have lots of stuff from them to upload. I'll pick something from "Welcome Back..." for my next video. Thank you again!
They recorded it on a direct-to-2-track tape machine, probably running at a high speed. They said they recorded it with the intention of putting it out as an album, but Atlantic initially turned it down, saying it wouldn't sell, as it was a classical-oriented album. When it was put out in the UK, Island Records imported thousands of copies to the US, they all sold, and that convinced Atlantic that it was work releasing.
@@Esotereclectic The politics of recording the industry huh? I dont think I will ever get over this quality of recording. Its up there with Telarc, Blue Note Jazz, and this.. I been doing high end audio for over 40 years, and ELP before that, and this album, recorded live at this tme is beyond anyones reality. Whoever laid this down to the masters gets a free pass to Heaven.
@@NothingLikeVinyl Want to knwo something funny? Here I am tonight listening to this, and realizing all over again that this is a super kick ass recording, and going to comment then realizing, damit I already commented on this very thing 5 mnths ago! Well I dont care how many time you record it, just keep doing it! haha... Cheers dude.. I just cannot believe how beautifully pure this upload sounds. I am newly impressed all over again, as if it was a first time. The clarity of Greg Lakes guitar, voice, the synths, percussion.. damn. .
It’s been around 40 years since I’ve heard this. It’s a shame life keeps us so busy that an album we used to play so often every grace note was tattooed into our memory we don’t have time in that long of a period to even go out to the storage shed and find the LP. Great vinyl brings it all back without a single YT commercial to disrupt the return to my former life in a long forgotten galaxy. Now back to hell for me. Bless ya.
I SHARE THE SAME THOUGHTS, THE SAME IDEAS, THE SAME SHAME FOR LONG, LONG TIME...FORTUNATELY, I USE TO LISTEN TO EMERSON LAKE AND PALMER QUITE OFTEN...THEY WERE LIKE BROTHERS TO ME..THIS KIND OF MUSIC REFLECTS THE ESSENCE OF LIFE ITSELF...GELU BATIR, ROMANIA, JAN, 2021
@@gelubatir9794 Yes, modern rendition of classical era notation gives archaic melody a warmer identity to the hearer in my view. This album causes some of life’s drama to be assuaged by putting its complexity to audio. An LP I can use for healing in a manner with which corporate medicine cannot compete.
@@johnnichols9056Agreed on both counts, John. Found myself listening to “Pictures” again last night for some reason. Such utter relief! Glad to know there will always be an ELP community to identify with as we all turn into old outdated nobodies.
Go to it. Make the time. Not easy I know, I too am pushed and pulled along all day long, just stayed up 3 hours late listening to Marillion, Porcupine tree, and ELP . Might be more tired in the morning but at least just did something good for myself!
Voy a llegar a los 65 años y sí, es una obra inolvidable me inspiró desde que la escuché la primera vez hasta el dia de hoy. Me sige emocionando, sobre todo la interpretación de The Sage.
I saw this movie when I it came out. There were no other MOOG synthesizers featured in music, at this time. Keith Emerson experimenting right during a song. Lake's guitar work, vocals can just melt a person. AND THEN KEITH IS BACK FOR ANOTHER ""TRIP"". PALMER, well, what can I say.......💥BANG!
This LP me launched my intererest in classical music...my parents heard me playing it,got me the solo piano version by Mussorgsky, then the orchestral arrangement by Ravel...then I found out a brass band version by The Philip Jones Brass Ensemble and a Tomita synth version...This LP on view is obviously a reissue as it originally appeared on Island Help,a cheap budget label release...later reissued full price on Manticore.
It sounds very much like the CD if you excuse the comparison, I thought it was at the start. Thats a great natural sounding cart' deck combination . My copy must have been last off the pressing . Cheers ,Mike.
There's no end to my life, no beginning to my death. Death is Life....................................... A lyric that will be on my gravestone or said at my funeral.
