It genuinely hurts because i know DOA could be massive It has very memorable characters to work with for a good, gripping narrative It has amazing gameplay that stands out from its competitors with its fluidity and speed and mechanics, and also the girls are cute I'll just keep hoping it'll make a comeback and that it'll be huge

With Fumihiko Yasuda as president now, and his work on Nioh reminding people why Team Ninja were and still are the kings of 3D action, I think we can look forward to whatever the next DOA fighting game ends up being. Especially with SF6 as a leading example for content and quality of life features, I think the current devs at Team Ninja are ambitious and capable enough given the resources and time to deliver something of similar quality. At the end of the day, we all want this series to shine and get the love it deserves, from both the developers and the gaming public.

This video touched my heart. I've been playing DOA since i was 5 years old, I was also introduced to DOA with Dead or alive 2 on the Dreamcast. I played it with my parents and brother, I have great memories with that game. 2 and 4 will always be my favourites. Hopefully soon we will have a seventh installment 💪

DOA2 was a turning point for the series, since it offered many new features and was notable for improving and popularizing the concept of multi-tiered environments. It received universal acclaim and strong sales and was the first DOA game to receive an award. DOA3 was critically acclaimed as it was notable for improving and expanding on what DOA2 offered, it was notable for being one of the titles that were quintessential in helping build the Xbox brand, it was the first fighting game for the said platform, it was the first DOA game to be included in esports such as the Xbox Championship Tournaments, it was the first fighting game to receive an award from NAVGTR during its year of inception, it received more awards that any other DOA game, it was the first fighting game to support true widescreen display and 5.1 surround sound, and it became the best selling DOA game if all time. DOA2 Ultimate was among the first fighting games to offer online multiplayer, and was the fighting game to be included in the World Cyber Games. DOA4 was the first 7th gen console fighting game and the first fighting game to support 16:9 HD display. DOA4 was also the first DOA game to be included in EVO, and it was the first fighting game to have a televised esport event as it was the only fighting game to be included in the Championship Gaming Series.

Tom Itagaki left Tecmo and Team Ninja due to business troubles with the new Tecmo president at the time named "Yoshimi Yasuda". Itagaki got along well with the old Tecmo president Junji Nakamura, but he didn't get along with the Yoshimi Yasuda. Yasuda was not a good president for the company since he left Itagaki and other Tecmo employees with unpaid bonuses and wages, which led to Itagaki and the other employees suing the company, and Itagaki leaving Tecmo. Yoshimi Yasuda led Tecmo to its downfall.

I started Doa on the 3ds episode when I was still a kid. And it's still my favorite game of all time because the energy of this game is insane and underestimated, the characters are stylish, the gameplay is surely the most in-depth for a fighting game with several gimmik and different phases like on the rope, on the ground, in the air, hand-to-hand from afar, duo fights, all the stages and zone effects that can create crowded situations and entertainment, by far the coolest and most accessible game even for new players. In short, I'm going to stop here, because if I don't, it'll go on too long, but in any case, Doa is by far the most underestimated series, just because of its image, and people have never bothered to take an interest in the game, because once you've got the hang of it, it becomes a kind of drug, so satisfying is it, with its crazy characters and good solo modes. I respect this license and all the players who continue to show their passion for this underestimated license. To conclude, DOA=OUTSIDER INCOMPREHENSIVE.

I can't believe I just now saw this...and man I've gotta say this just shows how passionate you are about this series and man I'ma say it we kinda don't deserve you man. Like you really do keep the spirit of DOA alive and man I hope one day just one day one of the higher ups at Temco that can actually understand english can see this and actually get their head out their ass and put their nose to the grindstone and show the world how great DOA is. P.S I am not trying to brown nose here or be some type of kiss ass I am just very observant because I use to play DOA aswell as everyone else here and when I had tried looking up DOA content I was hard pressed...like I found sWooZie~! But man. . .no, like I was in the fuckin' trenches. God the amount of fun I had on this game. . .I don't hate DOA6 I still enjoyed it for what it was but I'll say this if only temco had tried~! Because at that time the TEKKEN community was going threw fatigue with TEKKEN and the series was on the verge of death and T7 was very mediocre it literally just looked like TT2 with the models being greasy looking and I feel if Temco would have tired right there people would have been saying "Best 3D fighter DOA". IDK about the horny bs or whatever but I just wanna say there is a lot of hypocrisy about that bs that's it. Also notice how DOA did kinda set some industry standards. Hell the best thing that came out of DOA6 was it's lobbies~! look at how tekken straight up is getting all of doa stuff~! we never had floor breaks way back about like what? maybe T6 it started? I wanna say I'm wrong and it was 5. . . but honestly it's been too damn long.

Only jumped into Dead or Alive recently tbh as I've been on a Team Ninja kick recently. Dabbled a little bit with Dimensions on 3DS but put it down back then as my brain was a bit conditioned to Tekken and DoA felt like a mindless 3 button mashfest to me at the time.... I was completely mistaken when I finally gave a revisit and discovered how free flowing the game feels compared to Tekken. Movement felt so fluid and didn't require learning weird stuff like Korean Back Dash to complete basic movement tasks. And also the extremely accessible bar of entry for learning and implementing parries. You can get straight into the fun mind games early on and it doesn't feel like it requires a university degree's worth of knowledge full of nearly useless esoteric/situational facts spanning multiple console generations in order to reach that stage. Wish we could see another entry in the near future, but in the meantime I do love that all mainline games are playable on Xbox One onwards via backwards compatibility. (And a new mainline 3D Ninja Gaiden entry that captures the spirit of NGB and NGII would also be a dream come true!)

i'm super new to DOA (like played a bit of 4 way back, but 6 was the only one where I played to kinda learn) but man, how you described growing up with DOA was how I currently feel with tekken. I really hope DOA gets another shot, especially with what Tekken's been doing with the new wall mechanics (that were a thing since DOA 4 right? daaamn o-o ) what with SF6, MK1 and Tekken coming out near a year within each other I really hope this is where FGs come back more into the spotlight :D Usually when I hear people familiar with FGs, they say they played like SF, MK or Tekken way back in the day. Imagine those people coming back to FGs along with newer players (and with more games in the horizon). Would be super dope for sure :) Awesome vid man ^^

I remember playing DOA3 for YEARS on my og xbox which had broken a number of times so my mom would always get another if she could find one (shout out to her) and DOA3 was like the only game I would play consistently until one day I went to a game shop to look for a new game to play and I couldn't believe it when I saw DOA4 sitting there on the shelf. I genuinely did not expect a new DOA game to come out because I had been playing DOA3 for so long but when I saw DOA4 I immediately bought and I was so hyped to see what the game had to offer and as I was going home I literally just stared at the front and back of the games case reading everything multiple times because I couldn't believe what I had in my hands. It's been a while since I have had that kind of hype for a game nowadays. That being said I did not realize that DOA4 was on TV but that sounds epic and if I had known at the time, I would have definitely watched that for real. One day I decided to look for another copy of DOA3 since I lost mine somehow and I found a last used copy of it that worked perfectly and I was plying that on my Xbox 360 which was epic and a few years later I realized that I could order a copy of DOA2U online on amazon and I didn't know that it also had DOA1U included and it was the original case (The colorful one that sort of folded to include both games if I remember correctly) and the best part was it was BRAND NEW and sealed as well. I remember waiting so excitedly for the games to arrive and the minute it did I hopped on my 360 and loaded up the game and played for hours. The crazy part is that not too long ago we finally got backwards compatibility support for DOA2U and DOA3 and DOA4 for Xbox which was awesome as I had been waiting for it to happen and I am so glad it eventually did! Anyways, the DOA series will always be the most memorable to me as I had spent so much of my life playing each game and hopefully the series does get a reboot that all of us will enjoy :)

Solid retrospective. Dead or Alive 2 was my first DOA and it has always been special for me. So to know others find that and DOA2U near and dear to them is awesome. That was my first time meeting the likes of Master, Vanessa, Sorwah...such a good time. I always find myself coming back to this series as there is just a level of "gotcha" mind games that I don't get in other fighting games. Team Ninja did mention they have DOA on their radar for a reboot, so I am hopeful we wont have to wait too long. I remember randomly seeing your reaction to the DOA6 announcement trailer in my RU-vid feed way back. That was how I even saw the game was even a thing. And man lemme tell you we legit had the same reaction. Pretty dope. Thanks for sharing! #bambiskit

Your DOA origins is really similar to mine. Introduced through DOA2 Hardcore on PS2.. I bought OG xbox and later a 360 exclusively for DOA games (NEVER bought any other games for those consoles). My fondest memories are DOA2U and DOA4, playing with my lil brother in tag for hours. Getting inspired watching DOA ON TV and watching Master VS Swoozie. Went to a local for DOA4 and was bodied so fast lol I was too busy in life to commit myself to DOA5 unfortunately, but try to retrospectively enjoy it. DOA6 I love because it was the reintroduction of DOA to my life. My compliments on the overall tone of this video. The ending "yea, i love this fkn game" almost made me cry... I can feel how much meaning DOA has to you and understand deeply.. but your dedication and adoration for DOA is moving. I'm so happy for you.. like, not many people find something they love so purely. Thanks for this great video Emery. This one is timeless.. ALSO, you are absolutely the greatest commentator in FGC history. I come from the world of combat sports, and am highly critical of commentary.. FGC commentary murders me, because it's so casual, sloppy, too much joking, no knowledge.. You are a LITERAL scholar of DOA and recite framedata, make suggestions, have genuine reactions, etc. you're so professional in the way you cover the game it's like you're an actual broadcast commentor for Showtime Boxing.

Tekken will always be my game but Dead or Alive will always have a special place within my heart. I pray that one day it returns to its former glory. When I was back in school, many of my mates preferred DOA to Tekken. It really was a serious contender back in that DOA 2 - DOA 4 era. I wish I had that same experience with Dead or Alive that you had. I was always a PlayStation owner so I missed out on many of the best titles but it was always so exciting going round my friends and playing one of those awesome X-Box exclusives. I hate it when developers bring out a bad rushed game and then cancel that franchise because not enough people didn't buy it. How about making a good game that doesn't rinse you of cash every step of the way and then see how well it sells? Like you, I do however have faith that Dead or Alive will return. It's too great a franchise to be just left to die. I just hope when the time comes, that Dead or Alive 7 is shown that same love when Itagaki was in charge. You're an awesome representative for the Dead or Alive community and I respect you so much for staying true to yourself. So pleased you still have so much passion for this amazing franchise even when it's going through a rough patch. Cheers man

It will come back, just not at the moment because it's going too be competing with other fighting games like Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat 1, and the upcoming, at the time of me writing this, Tekken 8. So it's going too be a bit before DOA makes a return.

Hey Emery as a long time subscriber, DOA fan, and designer of Rig’s Halloween 2017 costume, I really appreciate all the passion and dedication you have for this series. There are us out there that miss this series! Now, have you ever played the X1 version of 5LR? I’m asking as an an influencer many people disregard or ignore this version when they’re are several things that the community needs to know (including apparently KT) First, the game overall feels much harder than the PS4 version and, it is. The PS4’s evaluation of skill stays saved to the games data, and isn’t in a constant state of determination or evaluation when playing in a non-online mode. The X1 does not do this, requiring constant evaluation of skill even when not playing online modes, and cannot save it permanently to one save file or account. This means the game never knows really how good/bad you are and in 5LR’s case this also affects the AI. As it’s the only thing other than playing online to get this determination. Scared yet? There was never a cap placed to block or stop this determination attempt in any way despite the fact they knew it as it was necessary to see when porting the game ported over in development. The 360 saved skill into its hard drive as part of the save on your account, this was abandoned after its death. What does that mean for the AI? First their toxic behaviors are more prevalent and effective. As the game can still input read as part of the skill determination, this means they can read inputs more often without needing to stop. Also, it can determine that you’ll do all your combos perfectly every time without dropping them. It is not uncommon in this version for the following to happen: Sarah, Jacky, and Pai knowing stun loops of 80-90% health H canceling every 1 frame to prevent counters, and input reading to crush or evade all your moves. Raidou to input read and crush most lows, force tech you if grounded up close which is guaranteed because he H cancels the exact frame after the move hits, triple lightning combos at any time, and NEVER dropping any of his command chain grabs. Akira knows 100% loops on either proper stun (or counter hit), off force tech which he can do multiple times as again he can perfect H cancel, grab loops, and can input read at the same time to mix them up. The big kicker; he can triple knee ANY character in the game. Yes, it can be done on heavies: the AI does a 1 frame H cancel immediately after the 1 frame knee, doing that 3 times in perfect succession. He’s done it to me twice when I was completing legend survival on Rachel and Bayman: you short roll away at the end because it’s so tight. Alpha-152’s command throws can be used in 1 frame by the AI despite it required 2-3 frames by the fastest human players(the command plus acceptance). Leifang, Ein, Bayman, and Leon can become psychic with counters and Nyotengu, Momiji, Rachel, Marie Rose, Honoka, Raidou, Sarah, Jacky, Pai, Hayabusa, and Alpha-152 aren’t as bad but no slouches either. The X1 AI also knows camera switch shenanigans but are never fooled by them, can full punish any and all dropped combos, incorrect stuns, incorrect hit stuns, and incorrect wall splat. The PS4 doesn’t do most of this. The X1 version is WAY better at H canceling and stun escape than the PS4. I’ve never seen or experienced hardly any of these on the PS4 version, if experienced at all. The priority of commands is switched for both consoles: The PS4 prioritizes player inputs, whereas the X1 prioritizes the games processing first, and if 1 frame ever made a difference! 5LR was ported without this in mind for X1 despite them knowing most likely, meaning the AI’s commands are taken in priority over yours: with input reading this puts you in situations where you can just be sort of screwed with no answers as they will know anything you can possibly do. The AI can also do ANY move or option in that 1 frame, when the PS4 takes 2-3 frames for that determination. This happens a lot more frequently than you realize: PS4 players rag on X1 players for being “bad” but they’re dealing with issues that many of them couldn’t handle. This is also why a lot of people say they can’t play this version. Jann Lee and Alpha-152 become SUPER toxic due to this alone. The X1 has lots of loading and lag the PS4 does not during gameplay as it has to load stuff more often due to the way and things it has to continuously process currently and in the background: the game can stutter and have over 3 seconds of delayed input lag playing offline. Also the X1 must reload every piece of installed DLC every time a game boots up. For 5LR 10-15 “checking the content” is not uncommon. Also, the Marie Rose Red Bull Costume: R and both “I’m a Fighter” costumes are in the X1 game files but were basically withheld for no reason. Talking to KT did nothing, maybe they need more people in the community asking for them? You should definitely try the X1 version: it’s a whole different experience and feels like a version without a patch. I think most X1 players who’ve played both would agree it’s a lot different feeling.

You do all this for a dead, stupid game? The game can't truly be dead if you are part of what brings new players into it, even at such a dim time in it's life. I was a Tekken/VF player for years until somehow I ran across one of your DOA5 vids. It looked great, you pumped energy into it with your presentation, and your passion was evident. I watched your DOA vids for months off and on with DOA5LR on my wishlist. Then, on my birthday, a friend asked me what game I wanted. A few from my wishlist were on sale but, as usual, DOA was not. But it was what I was amped up for so he bought it for me. I was loving it and learning it when, 2 weeks later, DOA5 and DOA6 went on sale. I scooped up DOA6 and a ton of DLC. I've been playing them both for months now. I can't shake the feeling DOA provides... it's a fluidity and a sense of control and mastery that no other series provides. So.. long story short, thank you for loyalty to DOA, your commitment in making content for it, and for being the person responsible for my enjoyment. Here's looking forward to a day when DOA7 arrives to prove to us all that the series is alive and still kicking ass.

Ive only been playing DOA for a few months, I played the og DOA 2, loved it, (still love picking it up and playing) I also play DOA 6 and while the gameplay is fun and the characters are awesome, it just doesnt have the same charm as DOA 2. DOA 2 just feels good, the music, the art style, everything really. They should definitely keep making games, but I heard they cancelled DOA 7 a few years ago, hopefully they bring the series back. As long as they dont throw DLC bullshit into it.

*we don't need DOA7 yet, 6 is still really really good 👍 I'd love to see a Tekken/DOA/Soul Calibur/Final Fantasy MEGA PROJECT with like 50 characters, 50 different stages, a choice-driven Baldurs Gate style story mode and NO CUTSCENES* 😂

Keep up the good DOA content and i hope the series comes back, there are very few games I've played as much as DOA 2 ultimate and DOA 4, huge nostalgia.

I personally want DOA to return to compete with Tekken. Tekken will always be the main fighting game for me but I always love playing DOA. My story with DOA is back in 2004 at the arcades. I went balls deep in Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag 1 and I just started playing Street Fighter Alpha 3. Then my friend and I saw some guys playing DOA++ and convinced my friend to play it and he loved while I just wrote it off as a Tekken wanna be. In 2005 however my friend managed to convince me to try it and I couldn't believe how fun it is as a 14/15 year old boy. I always go to the arcades just to play DOA++ and I always made it to the second last stage but since I was in a boarding school, I barely had time to finish it. At the same time in 2005 I saw DOA 2 on the PlayStation 2 but at that time I never owned any consoles. I wanted to get a PlayStation 2 just to play some games but I couldn't afford it then but at least the best day of my life came when I got to play Tekken 5 at a store and then try my luck on DOA++. 2006 I finally got to play DOA 2 at the arcades and it became my first DOA that I finally beat with Kasumi and the same year I Tekken 5 DR with Jin. When the Xbox 360 dropped in South Africa one of the covers I saw was DOA 4 and said to myself one day I will play that game. I got the PlayStation 2 in the end a my very first game I got is Tekken 5. Tekken 5 for me is peak Tekken however my soul was craving for DOA 4 and my wish was granted in 2010 when I went to my friend's house to play DOA 4. After beating the game I've realized this is peak DOA and it became my top 5 favourite game ever only behind Tekken 5 and Alpha 152 is way harder than Jinpachi Mishima. Thanks to DOA 4 I started to improve my skills in Tekken 5 and improve my skills in fighting games. 2011 I got the PlayStation 3 for passing matric and I got some fighting games like Street Fighter 4, Soul Calibur 4 and KOF 12 but it didn't feed my longing for Tekken and DOA and since the last DOA was a Xbox exclusive, I never confident DOA will ever return to Playstation until the DOA 5 trailer dropped and I Hayabusa and Hayate fighting on the rooftop and it was beautiful and when I found out it's coming to PlayStation 3 I said I'm buying that fucking game. 2012 I finally bought Tekken 6 but I always kept tabs on DOÀ 5 and I saved up money when the day comes I will buy DOA 5 and I did. DOA 5 is the only game I bought full price and I will never do it again because it's the one game I was willing to buy day one. Loved it and because of DOA 5 I got better with Hayate(Thanks to playing Lars in Tekken 6). DOA 5 will always have a special place in my heart. I played DOA 5 more often than I did with Tekken 6. 2017 owned the PlayStation 4 and got DOA 5: Last Rounds and Injustice: Gods Among Us same time. 2018 I saw the DOA 6 trailer and at first this could be good but my fears grew when Koei Tecmo made multiple howlers long before DOA 6 came out and I realized it's not worth my money to buy it and it shows when it came out. To say I was completely disappointed with the direction it went was an understatement. I wanted to try out DOA 6, I really did but with its horrible reviews and Tamaki being the final DLC DOA 6 launched and Koei Tecmo left it to rot I'm sad DOA and it's massive fan base got screwed over. I owe DOA a lot because it helped me to get better in fighting games. I'm praying DOA does return and compete with Tekken 8, Mortal Kombat 1 and Street Fighter 6. I apologize for the long post and story. I've enjoyed your documentary and your thoughts on DOA as a whole. Like I said, As much I love Tekken, I owe DOA my gratitude for understanding what is a fighting game and my friend to convince me to play this wonderful game. I see it as a really good fighting game. If only the rest see it with excellent fighting mechanics rather than some fan service game then it will gain the same respect as Tekken, Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. DOA will return and DOA 7 must be the rebirth of DOA.

Part o me hopes maybe one day they will port the older games to PlayStation and PC. I never got to play the others. It would be neat especially until DOA 7 becomes a thing.

I really miss doa Since the game died i played soulcalibur tekken and now getting my feet into sf6 my first 2 d game After playing all those games i could never reach the level i was as a doa player(reached topaz) i miss the throws the characters And i miss the balance between a challenging game and a game that is not extremely hard and has too crazy execution that distracts you from playing your best

i had Tatsunoko vs Capcom and Super Smash Brawl but dead or alive dimension is my first 3ds game i played a lot of that online. i got dead or alive 5 later on. i was a stupid kid new to the internet. i tried to fight anyone with a RU-vid. i remember the first time someone talked to me with a mic was DOA5 i couldnt talk back yet. Eventually i did get a Goodwill headset. few years later i think Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate is out but i gather friends with Playstion Vita. Dead Or Alive 5 + was free and cross play vanilla doa5. I dont have any especially fond memories of Dead or alive 5 ultimate. i played it it was good. if your luck PS Store did give free charcters Kokoro, Hitomi and Jann Lee. I remember buying Marie Rose cheerleader hoping to get the charcter cheaper it doesn't work like that. dead or alive 6 i played beta and didn't like it
