EMG Geezer Butler P-bass pickup replacement | RATTLECAN GUITAR RESTORATIONS by James O’Rear
The output on my A string from the 1981 Tokai Hard Puncher P-bass has become weak to the point where I needed to replace it. I opted for the EMG Geezer Butler passive P-bass pickup. It is a plug-and-plau silderless replacement kit that includes the pickup, tone and volume controls, output jack, and all necessary wiring. Installation was honestly super simple. The only issue I has was the hot lead of the output jack would rub against the side of the control cavity and ground out the signal. I fixed that by repositioning the wires and placing some insulating tape in the affected area.
The sound is bright and crisp and very quiet. I can definitely recommend this pickup as the tonal variations cover a broad range of playing styles. Very happy.
