EMG Pickups 81 VS 57 

57 all day. The 81 has no character...it's just a simple, sterile, ceramic pickup. Whereas the 57 just growls, and sounds thick from the Alnico 5 magnets. The 57 also has dynamics which the 81 lacks. The 57 is like a set of PAF's on steroids. They have the boost and gain of an active, with the dynamics, and warmth of a passive. The 57 is a clear winner.

Interesting. I'm still partial to the 81. for the style at least. a lot more crisp and tight. the 57 seems more well-rounded though

Is it just me or can you hear more of the notes in the chords on the 81?

81 rings more defined notes than 51 when you hit the chord

81 is meaner. 57 is fatter.
